Maria Traydor![]() Japanese Version Name: Maria Traitor Race: Earthling Height: 5'3" Weight: 104 lbs Age: 19 Weapon: Gun Starting Level: 20 Background: Maria is the somewhat mysterious leader of the anti-federation organisation “Quark”. Had a rough childhood as she is an orphan child, and later ended up being raised by Cliff & Mirage themselves. Mirage is also the one who taught her combat training. Personality: Maria can be rather blunt and rarely beats around the bush in saying what she wishes. She now serves Quark religiously, while also having a hidden agenda which comes to surface later on in the game. Recruitment Info: She will join regardless of your actions a little way into the game. Battle Information: Maria can learn both Battle Skills and Symbology; refer to the list below for what unique battle skills he will learn, when and an evaluation of them. Note: Base cost is the skill cost if used as a minor skill; it varies by both the level of the attack and the characters maximum HP for Major Attacks. The Base Cost purpose is for a guide to fury consumption use and whether it consumes HP or MP to perform. Battle Skills Summary: Name: Aiming Device CP Cost: 2 Learned: Starts with it Range: Short/Long Base Cost: 8 MP/25 Fury Function: A sighting attack that uses a visible laser beam. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: An excellent, fast holding style attack with excellent range. This can cause both HP & MP damage, as well as potentially confusing your enemies. Also easy and effective to chain with, just be sure to keep an eye on your MP as it will consume a fair share of it if you’re not careful. Easily one of, if not the best starter attack any character has, and even then you can still find use for this later in the game. Rating: 9/10 Name: Scatter Beam CP Cost: 3 Learned: Starts with it Range: Short/Medium Base Cost: 15 HP/25 Fury Function: Fires a spread shot of lasers. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Causes a range of HP attacks, with its shotgun style burst you can’t miss with it. Its stand alone power is average, but its ability to chain quickly can turn it into a deadly HP attack burst. Rating: 8/10 Name: Magnetic Field CP Cost: 5 Learned: Lv 28 Range: Short Base Cost: 20 HP/10 Fury Function: Emits electromagnetic waves over a short but wide range. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Fun attack to use, causes a powerful aura style field around Maria, deals both HP & MP damage, and even slows the enemy a little. Can act as a great addition to any form of cancel chain for her. Rating: 8.5/10 Name: Pulse Blast CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 32 Range: Short/Medium Base Cost: 60 HP/25 Fury Function: Continuous firing of a short-range laser in a limited area. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Causes a fast burst of HP attacks, chained can cause high HP damage. Although I’d lean towards attacks like Magnetic Field & Aiming Device over it for the additional MP damage and status disturbances. Rating: 7/10 Name: Crescent Locus CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 38 Range: Short Base Cost: 50 HP/20 Fury Function: Kicks an enemy up into the air. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Similar to Aerial, but more effective. Causes strong HP damage and can be easily chained, but doesn’t offer a knockdown or other status bonuses. And you really don’t want Maria this close to your enemy considering her other great range attacks and low movement speed. Rating: 3/10 Name: Triple Kick CP Cost: 5 Learned: Lv 42 Range: Close Base Cost: 60 HP/20 Fury Function: A series of three kicks. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: For enjoyment factor I love this attack, three very powerful, good attack range HP damage clearing kicks. Can also shove a majority of enemies a great distance away from you, great to use if you’re a more defensive style fighter. Rating: 7.5/10 Name: Laser Blast CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 46 Range: Close Base Cost: 80 HP/20 Fury Function: A laser that cuts a sideways swath. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: It’s pretty lousy for an attack that is learnt so late, forces you to get very close to make a strong radius attack. It will rarely miss, but for a slow moving gun user its puts you in a too venerable of a position to recover from. Rating: 1.5/10 Name: Gravity Bullet CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 52 Range: Close Base Cost: 300 HP/40 Fury Function: Emits a slow flying energy blast. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Must fun attack to use in the game, for me that is. Causes a massive bullet to move incredibly slowly in front of Maria, Where she makes a defensive jump back to get out of the enemies range. This can perform up to around 30 hits dealing HP damage. Linked with a long minor stun or HP/MP damage skill attack immediately after used can deal amplified results! Rating: 7.5/10 Name: Energy Burst CP Cost: 8 Learned: Item Required: Enigmatic Scroll, found on level 3 of the Maze of Tribulations. Range: Close/Long Base Cost: 500 HP/20 Fury Function: Emits an extremely wide laser beam. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Best attack in the game, I’m not kidding. Creates a wide diameter burst of energy the covers the entire battle field. Best used with Close Major to ‘line’ up 2/3 enemies at once. Once used can cause an incredible amount of HP & MP damage, including the change of paralysis. With fury reduction such as Berserk can be held for an eternity, makes killing and severely injuring enemies a cake walk. Rating: 10/10 Name: Radiation Bots CP Cost: 6 Learned: Item Required: Intricate Scroll, found on level 187 of Sphere 211. Range: Close/Long Base Cost: 150 MP/50 Fury Function: Releases an attack unit into the air. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: A strange attack really, causes these mechanical bots to surround Maria. This allows her to briefly fire with about 5 shots as once from long range, nice attack but I feel that her CP is best used for other attacks, also considering this is an MP attack which makes it that little bit less appealing. Rating: 5.5/10 Learning Chart This chart covers every skill Maria can learn by level order; bar the ones every character can learn via items.
![]() Battle Overview: Overall Maria is probably offers the best range of offensive attacks, that can also be performed safely. I would strongly recommend that every player to put some time & effort into her and get her level around the same as everyone else. As she can easily fit into just about any party setup thanks to her long attack range and ‘boost’ style Symbols. On the flipside Maria is probably the slowest of the characters in terms of foot speed, although thankfully more then half of her speciality attacks allow her to maintain a long range, or at least offer a knock down ability and ability to easily escape and recover from the enemy. Due to her speed you may want to consider giving her a pair of Bunny Shoes (30%+ move), not required but can help should you find her lack of speed too difficult. Suggested Skill Sets Balance Plus Sm: Scatter Beam Lm: Aiming Device SM: Magnetic Field LM: Aiming Device S1: First Aid S2: (Empty) This is a setup you will be able to use earlier in the game, both Magnetic Field & Aiming Device offer excellent Offensive & Defensive value; while Scatter Beam offers excellent HP damage. Here you can continually chain Magnetic Field with Scatter Beam, should Maria back into Long Range she can still perform high % Aiming Device attacks. This will utilise Maria’s great attack range and prevent her getting too close to the enemy as it’s well known her foot speed is poor. Offensive Machine Sm: (Empty) Lm: Aiming Device SM: Energy Burst LM: Aiming Device S1: First Aid S2: Critical Hit MP With this set Maria can easily perform her most powerful attack “Energy Burst”, on close major so it cannot be defended and easy to line up multiple enemies as once, for maximum results have Berserk On (Which I recommend to have on at all times anyway). This also allows you to have Aiming Device chains available from long range. Critical Hit MP helps boost her potential MP output; finally First Aid is always handy to help gain some additional HP via damage on occasion. Note that the battle skill evaluations are based on my own thoughts and experiences with the game, I'm sure not everyone will agree with my ratings; feel free to post your own assessments of these abilities or any other comments relating to Maria. |
