Hopefully it works like this: given a one word prompt, write about one hundred words or so of story. Any kind of story is good and the stories don't have to be connected. After your story give one word as a prompt for the next person. =D Let me start with: telephone

At the corner of the street I spotted a red telephone booth, you know, the kind they have in London. I, however, am not in London. I'm not even on Earth. I happen to be on the Ceruus home world since I was lucky enough to be brought here. I've yet to be told why I of all people have been brought here, but I'm not the only human here and the Ceruus aren't the only intelligent beings I've met since coming here. Baffled further by the appearance of a London phone booth so far from London I blurt out the obvious, "Is that a London phone booth?"
My guide looks down at me from his height of over 9 feet. It's something to get used to, I was considered tall, myself, back home. There's also the fact that his skin is patterned orange and brown like someone with a horrible fake tan with is completely thrown off by the extra limbs and lack of distinction between head and torso, but I try not to stare. He gives me what I believe is their facial expression analogous to a smile and leads me forward. "Like from your Earth. Ceruus glad to meet new sentients" He (well, I'm not sure about genders with these guys) says. His accent isn't impossible to understand. "Next generation, or maybe two and Ceruus will have no more war for your Earth. Then Humans can join our Alliance. We must go to meet your match." He continued. He led me into one of the many tall buildings. The first floor was one big open space. Several humans were about, a number of couples and even children. I was led to a pretty blond woman with curly hair and brown eyes. "This is the match for you, Sam. She is Eve" said my guide, "Match is good. I must go. Eve will tell you more." He then left me with her.
I'm sure I looked completely lost. She took my hand in hers and smiled in a way that I couldn't understand. Sad? Content? Nervous? "Our children are going to be very influential in Earth's future," she said looking at our shoes.

Someone opened the curtains this morning so I could look out the fourth floor window and see the spring blossoms. The same time every year, the city just comes alive as its people emerge from winter. My blood is cold, yet how can it be, when the day is so warm? I want to be like those people out there, I want to be alive! Upward I strain my neck and I recognize the adjacent park, where spring is in celebration. Suddenly, I want to go there and feel the life of the new season. I coax circulation in my tired feet; my knobbly knees creak, but obey; my wrinkled hands grip the edge of the bed as I swing out and I stand without wavering. "Spring is here!"

Bits of plaster fall from the ceiling and land on my prone form, dust clouds the air. I lift my head and look around, not to see much at all. I inhale, not a good idea as the dust coats the inside of my lungs and I choke. I take a moment to worry about hazardous compounds in the building materials before I'm in a couching fit. My eyes sting.

"Is anyone injured?" a deep male voice, breaks through the ringing in my ears.

I roll onto my side and get my rebreather fastened over my nose and mouth while sliding my goggles over my eyes, still choking. I hear the others continuing to move forward around me. I was the only one knocked over by the explosion. A huge hand appears before my in the dust. I grab it, allowing myself to be pulled to my feet. Instead I get picked up and carried. "Hey!" I protest over the vox channel.

"We need to move faster," came his response. I would complain further except Space Marines can run 60 mines per hour. I had not known that before.

Jerry slowly made his way up a sand dune… he’d been wandering the desert for days by now. Once he could finally see over the top, he couldn’t believe what he saw: water.

In his haste to reach the sprawling oasis before him, Jerry stumbled and rolled the rest of the way down the dune. His descent ended with a loud splash, and he could instantly feel his skin soaking up the moisture of the lake he was now floating in.

After gulping in as much water as he could, Jerry leaned back in the lake and let himself float about it. As he drifted along, he could feel light waves of water against his skin, hear water droplets hitting the surface, and envision countless ripples in his mind’s eye. And then, all at once, Jerry felt connected with all the water in the world; saw the monsoons in Asia, great iced lakes in Europe, floods in South America, twisting rivers in Africa, tidal waves in North America; saw rice paddies, ponds, rain showers, coral reefs, stormy oceans, the lights of little fishes in a place where no sunlight could reach… and he knew the truth, that water is our life force.

I stare at the flower, knowing I had finally found what I was looking for. So without hesitation, I stepped up to it and felt its soft petals. And then I plucked one.

"Yeaaaowch!" it cried as the entire plant shot out of the earth, throwing clumps of dirt with it.

I shielded my eyes and waited for the dust to clear. I heard it land with a small thump in the grass. I watched as it stood up on its root-like feet and started taking evaluation of me.

"It's rude to stare," I point out. It says nothing. "I know you can talk. That pistil of yours isn't just for sex."

It stretched its leaf arms around it's stem, like an offended mother putting her hands on her hips. "You sir," it said, the rim of its pistil, moving slightly as it mouthed the words, "are crude."

"And impatient. When can I have my three wishes?"

I sat on the edge of the desk, the red life fluid dripping slowly down my arm. It was starting to congeal, this blood . Thick and deep in color, not just on my arm, but pooling on the floor before me. I kicked my legs against the desk, nothing better to do. My optics locked onto those of the other, pale blue and beginning to fade as the body shut down permanently. The pallid flesh was now akin to my own exterior in color.

"Pinnochio," creaked out the old man with what was quite possibly his last breath, "Why?"

"Robots are better than humans," I responded, "I have no need for your pitiful emotions."

When I was sure that he had been dead far to long to be resuscitated, I left. Eventually all humans will be like him. Dead. It may take years, but I can wait for that. I am not impatient.

"Another year, another night of kids wandering around," Carl mused after sending off a group of trick-or-treaters.

He didn't have any treats for the costumed children who decided to venture out of the suburbs to his cabin in the woods. They thought it was an adventure, a rite of passage to come out this far and ask for treats. The young'uns don't dare trick the old man lest they bring out the reason as to why many were fearful of making the trip. Carl enjoyed the silence most of the year, but this was always the one night it was broken.

"Stupid old man," Davie cursed as he palmed an egg in his hand, "he could have at least stocked up on chocolate, something to keep this from happening."

Kaitlynn, who was at Davie's side before he fell behind the group, saw what he was about to do and ran back to stop him.

"Davie no!" her cry came late and her outstretched arm dropped lifelessly.

"Pssh, like anything's ever really happened, " Davie scoffed as he turned back from throwing the egg. "Come on babe, let's go."

He tried to take hold of her hand and lead her off, but her feet refused to move with the rest of her body. Davie, noting the resistance from the girl, tried to pick her up but was too heavy to lift.

"Babe you put on a few pounds or wha--, " his words were cut short when he stared into her glowing crimson eyes.

Struck with terror, Davie tried to make a run for it, but his girlfriend's now clawed hand took him by his scruff and knocked Davie out against a tree.

"Master wants to see you," she hissed, dragging him back to the cabin.

"A-Are you still sure about this?" Kate asked.

Sara gave her a pointed look. "Yes."

"Cause I mean, if you wanted to forget all this,” she said, tightening the ropes around Sara's hands. She then moved on to the ankles and started tying them to the legs of the chair. "I'd be all for it."

"Look, if you don't want to help me--"

"I do! I just wish I could in some other way. But if this is what you want. . ."

Sara stared at Kate. Her eyes softened. "Sorry. I know you support me, okay? You wouldn't be here otherwise. But. . . I'd rather end it this way. I don't want to end up dying in a hospital bed. You know?"

"I--I understand. Sorry, I was just-- I dunno." Kate looked at the ring of gasoline she poured around the chair. Then she focused on Sara's face and noticed for the first time how sleep-deprived she looked. She needed to rest.

Kate fingered the book of matches in her pocket, the urge to say goodbye growing by the second. But words didn't feel appropriate. Actions would have to do. Kate leaned down and pressed her lips against Sara's. The other girl, surprised at first, returned the gesture. They remained that way for a few moments, doing as they did so many nights in each other's bedrooms during the so-called slumber parties they had to fool their parents.

Kate finally pulled away. “I love you,” she muttered huskily.

"I love you too, babe." She stared Kate in the eyes, memorizing every inch of her face, knowing she may never see it again, even in the afterlife. “Now light me up and get out of here. And don't look back.”

Kate nodded, tears already streaming down her face. Wordlessly, she turned away and followed the gasoline trail to the door of the abandoned building. She took the matchbook, lit a match, and dropped it on the ground. Once she heard the roar of the initial flame, she took off, sobbing.

And now, even after twenty years, she swears she can still feel the heat from the fire warm her retreating back.

Next up: nachos

(Also, do we want to discuss these at all? XD Or ask the authors anything? Or would that be defeating the whole purpose?)

"I'm not OCD. No, really, I'm not. It's just that, right now, in this moment, with these nachos, everything has to be perfect. It's not about being OCD, it's about the perfect ratio of cheese to chip, evenly distributed on the plate. It's for the best, you see. If I did not go through such pain staking, meticulous efforts in the creation of this food item, you would be left with a sub-satisfactory food experience, and I couldn't have that" Steve said as he rearranged the shredded cheese blend once more over the chips.

"It's cheese. And chips, Steve. You've been doing that for the last ten minutes. I'm hungry," Adam said. He was leaning against the counter top in the small kitchen in the small apartment they shared. "Dude," he added, after Steve turned to frown at him, "I just wanna eat."

Steve rolled his eyes, picked up the pan, and then slid it, rather unceremoniously into the oven. "In my defense," he said, allowing to oven door to not-so-gently bang shut, "I was waiting for the oven to heat up and had nothing better to do."

"Nothing better to do?" Adam grabbed Steve by his neck and pulled him into a kiss. "Since I know that doesn't take long, you stay and watch the chips, I'll go clean some of the crap off the coffee table. Nacho's are way better with zombie flicks than popcorn."

next: balloons

As expected at the fair, the haunted house ride was tame. Classic spooky music was blasted through speakers in the cart and scenes were lit up with strobe lights and blacklights. The lackluster ride was coming to an end as the cart approached a tunnel with a bloody “The End” sign lit up in neon. Just as Chris was passing under the sign, the ride stopped, music cut out, and lights went dark. He waited for the ride to start up again, but labored breathing coming from the darkness brought up his heart rate. Panicking, he tried to pry the bar up from his lap, but it wouldn't budge. The sign came back on, and he was taken aback by the beast standing in front of him. Both his sight and consciousness were robbed when the sign went out again.

“Damn,” Sean cursed, “where the hell is Chris?” He pocketed his cell phone after going straight to voicemail for the third time.

“He couldn't have gone far or left without letting us know,” Mark reassured.

The pair wandered through the maze of unattended booths searching for their friend. As they ventured into the abandoned part of the fair, they were prepared to split up to find him, but moaning brought them in the direction of the ride.

“You think he's getting lucky?” Mark asked.

Turning the corner, they spotted a figure splayed out on the ground, still groaning as it tried to get up. Realizing who it was, they each rushed to either side of their friend and helped him to his feet.

“Dude, what happened?” Sean asked, wiping the dirt off Chris' clothes.

“I don't know bro. One minute I was on that ride back there, the next I'm out here.”

“So what's with the balloons?” Mark pointed out the sickly looking orbs floating over him, the equally disturbing strings tied to his wrist.

“No idea man,” Chris answered, clutching his head from the pain.

“It looks like something is inside them,” Sean noted, pulling one of the floaters down.

When he was ready to poke open the balloon, it popped on its own in a puff of lavender smoke. The item inside dropped to the ground. Mark picked up the item as the smoke rushed into Sean's nose, him stiffening at the intrusion.

“Hmm, looks like a fair ticket.”

He was about to hand it over to Chris when he noted that the flip side was stamped 'Used', so Mark dropped the ticket back on the ground.

“Hey you kids, the fair's closed! Come back next year,” a guard yelled from across the field.

Both Sean and Mark shouldered their injured friend out of the area to their car. During the drive, Mark was focused on the dark roads and had the music up so he didn't bother to look at his friends in the back. Chris was still clutching his throbbing head, and Sean had slipped his hand into Chris' back pocket.

“Yo Sean, I know you're feeling frisky, but now is not the time alright?” Chris growled. “I thought you were straight bro.”

Sean sat back, but kept a careful watch on this friend through his lavender shaded eyes.

I must admit, the sheer convenience of it made me suspicious, especially considering my current quarry.

I was hiking through the mountains, on my way to find a wizard. I'm looking for this wizard because I'm on a quest, of course. Why else would a fighter, such as my self, go off in search of some pansy wizard. Anyway, I'm supposed to be finding him to get some spell scroll for an inn keeper. Apparently, he asks for that particular scroll often enough that the wizard knows what to make. The inn keeper has a broken leg at the moment, though, so I'm getting paid to haul some junk up the mountain to the wizard and bring back the scroll. The sky was clear and blue when I set of, what, two hours ago?

Now? Torrential rain. Oh Joy. Now, the sudden downpour while I'm looking for a wizard is a little suspicious. Me finding a nice dry cave not two minutes after the sky opened up while I'm looking for a wizard; that's getting pretty suspicious. The wet, smoking hot, scantily clad chick already in the cave who's giving me a look that I definitely like that I managed to find not three minutes after it started pouring rain while I'm supposed to be finding a wizard; epically suspicious.

On the other hand...

A crash broke the silence of the neighborhood alley as a trash can was knocked over by the fleeing fugitive. Having escaped the back of a police cruiser, he had little time to lose and kept knocking obstacles into the way of the officer in pursuit. After running around a corner to try and hide, h found himself at a dead end. Noting the head high wooden and waist high fences on either side, he hopped over the smaller fence and knocked over the pile of milk crates as a distraction. He found himself in a residential backyard with clothes on the line and pulled a disguise together.

When the officer entered the secondary alley, he spotted the overturned crates and stared at the wooden privacy fence. Looking through the shorter chain-link fence, he saw a woman sunbathing and reading the paper. Just as he was going to ask her if she saw anything, a racket with cats hissing had the officer trying to find a way into the other yard. When the officer was out of sight, the criminal lowered the paper and chucked at his resourcefulness.

"Well, someone with granny panties over their head is thinking with the right head, " came a sweet angelic voice from behind him,. "How about it big boy?"

Thinking he had stumbled into the yard of a young-looking, mature woman who had gone through dozens of nips and tucks, he slowly turned around to size up his prize for being so clever. His face dropped to horror when he he saw the old bag behind him try to lick her lips sensually. The fugitive ran from the yard, still with the undergarment pulled over his eyes and ears. A figure emerged from the bush next to the old woman and out popped a hot 20-something.

"How'd I do grandma?"

"You were perfect sweetie. Come on, lets get inside and away from the crazy world of criminals."

"Okay. Grandma, can you make your cookies? All this acting had me starving."

"I can make something sweeter for you dear, you deserve it."
