Listen to your child's/student's experiences in a Special Ed. class

If your children needs special help but had a bad experience, then change schools or classes if you want. I believe it is important for the child to be happy. It doesn't necessary mean the child changes to another special ed class, the child may be happier to be in a mainstream class. If she/he is happy in a class, she will probably do well in class, make friends and learn from them. When I was in a mainstream class, an extra teacher often comes to my class and she'll mainly helps me. Usually other mainstream students appreciate the help from the extra teacher, this kinda gives me an extra social status.

My mum has tried to make all my brothers and sister attend in a Special Ed. class. I was the first one to attend in a Special Ed. class, my sister was naturally smart so she didn't need to attend in a Special Ed. class. My oldest brother did attend in a Special Ed class. My youngest brother may be attending in a Special Ed. class next year. My mum still see the benefits of attending in a Special Ed class because of my brother's experience. But my brother believed he didn't belong in that class. I believed it depends on the teaching methods and timing. In my high school years as a Special Ed. student, I didn't think the teaching methods were good enough. I guess there is more emphasis on young children in primary school than older children in high school.

Critics:

-Parents uninformed about the negatives of being in Special Ed. class.

-No goals, no comparisons, no competitions between Special Ed. and Mainstreams.
This is why a lot of Special Ed. student are unmotivated...

-lack of resource
Mainstream students have more fun/social activities - special ed students isolated.

-Unnecessary activities for Special Ed. students
bowling seems to be really common activity for Special Ed. students in Australia because its cheap and easy to supervise. Easter egg hunting, sleep time during classes, reading time (but only a teacher reads, not students - may be due to lack of resource), TV/movie time etc. I guess bowling is alright, but its a waste of time if it was during school hours. After school hours would be suitable. Some students are not good at bowling, they shouldn't make students keep playing bowling. They should make them do other activities they enjoy.

- Teacher's treatment/attitude
Special Ed. teacher treat us like kids. Special Ed. teachers treat mainstream students better than special ed. students. Most mainstream teachers treat special ed students normal like other any mainstream students.
