I just had a question for all you NaNo'ers (or anyone, really). Do you guys use your computer's word counter, or the old "25 lines per page in Courier New 12 pt. font" type deal when writing? I've been formatting my novels lately and the difference between the two is pretty big. My story is only 62,000 words with the computer's word counter, but if I use the old way, it's 75,000. For NaNo, that would mean you'd reach 50,000 faster.

I use the computer up until I change the formatting, which happens once I'm finished, but which do you guys use?

I use the computer's counter - it's just there at the bottom of the page, so it's easy. Technically though, we wouldn't reach 50,000 faster because the the verifier would count every word and if you were 10,000 out then you'd be pretty stuffed. Last year my computer's work count was about 120 words out from what the verifier told me it'd counted, so it's very specific. xD Plus the other way involves maths and I am really bad at maths. :P

Ahhh, that makes sense. (Shows what I don't know by never doing NaNo :p.)

Haha, I like math, but even I'll avoid doing it when I don't have to, which is why I found this:

160 pages = 40,000 words
180 pages = 45,000 words
200 pages = 50,000 words
220 pages = 55,000 words
240 pages = 60,000 words
260 pages = 65,000 words
280 pages = 70,000 words
300 pages = 75,000 words
320 pages = 80,000 words
340 pages = 85,000 words
360 pages = 90,000 words
380 pages = 95,000 words
400 pages = 100,000 words
420 pages = 105,000 words
440 pages = 110,000 words
460 pages = 115,000 words
480 pages = 120,000 words
500 pages = 125,000 words

I use the computer's counter. All these numbers confuse me. :P

My stories never work to that list, Bjullie. My last year's Nano was 65k and that was about 80/90 pages for me. My longest story was 80k and that was around 120 pages.

The page numbers and word count I posted only work if you use Courier New 12 pt. font with one inch margins, the usual formatting for manuscripts. I write in Times New Roman, which equals less pages than if it were in Courier.
