Greetings, fellow writers. I'm Amlesh. My real name is Austin, you can call me what you will. I'm 14 years old. I'm a member of both Teenage Writers and Drowned In Words, and now am happily on Spattered Ink. I like to write fantasy novels and occasionally realistic short stories. I sometimes dabble in poetry, but it often doesn't come out very well. I'm always looking to improve in everything I write. I enjoy critiquing and helping other people improve (so if you're looking for a crit, just tell me). I hate Twilight. Outside of writing, I enjoy playing basketball and American football. I listen to a lot of music and read a fair amount (though not nearly as much as I should). I enjoy debating with intelligent people about scientific and philosophical questions that give most other people headaches. J.R.R. Tolkien was my inspiration to write fantasy. The sheer size of his world is daunting (there is probably more history for Middle Earth than for our world). That's about it. Any other questions, feel free to ask. |

Welcome, Amlesh! I like fantasy and realistic fiction, too. I don't like Twilight, but it's okay. ![]() I've never heard of Drowned in Words. Is it a good site? |

Drowned In Words is a relatively new site. It's growing, though. Drowned In Words I would recommend it, from what I've seen it bears a lot of resemblance to Spattered Ink. |

We're now affiliated with Drowned in Words -- there's a big link to it on the index page. ![]() Anyway, welcome to SI, Austin!

Thanks, Lykaios! I've noticed that most people around this site use an inordinate amount of smileys... very different from the monotonous realms of TW... |

I wanted this place to have a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere than TW. More people are likely to hang around in a pleasant place rather than the 'monotonous' place TW's become. Plus, the smilies are awesome, don't you think? ![]() So, what types of headaching discussions do you like? |

I prefer questions that, even if you find a solution, really don't matter. Example: Debating about the existence (or lack thereof) of human kind. Even if we determine that we (un)exist, how do we get from unexistence to existence? It's simple, we cannot; all of our science and technology also unexist. Therefore, the question is pointless. Another of my favorites is time travel. Is this really possible? First a working definition of time must be determined: is it the passing of something through space at different points, or is it the human measurement of this (seconds, minutes, etc.)? It also must be determined if time is constant: does it travel in a single direction at a certain speed? Could it be possible to reverse or alter this? A good buddy of mine and I probably spent a good 20 hours discussing these and other points over a school year. Quite pointless topics, but intriguing nonetheless. |
