Note: I posted this on KWC, so just tell me if you replied on that one. I've been working on a kind of really long synopsis for a novel, trying to figure out the plot and what happens and stuff. However, I've hit a bump and need help. Basically, in my outline, the protagonist has somehow been whisked away (on the back of a anti-cliche dragon, actually) to the country of the species that half of her blood is. So far, she's ventured through the city with a kind Duragh (the species) huntress, and they are now at a shop. She is waiting for the huntress to be done with her errand, and she spots the boy who kidnapped her and brought her to the country, standing in a corner. Now, I need the boy to tell her something that shocks her, something that gets her moving again. I've tried making a what-if list, which is my method of getting past writer's block, but I hit a dead end. Here's what I've got so far: (by the way, the protagonist's motivation is that she is trying to find a dragon that her father died to save. Supposedly, this particular breed of dragon is one of the last of its very rare breed, and the protagonist wants to avenge her father's death by actually making something of his death, kind of completing his life's work): What if the boy told her that he knew where the dragon was? What if he wouldn't tell her where, and instead wanted to do something terrible? What if that terrible thing is murder? OR What if the boy told her that he knew where the dragon was? What if he wouldn't tell her where, and instead wanted to do something terrible? What if she wouldn't, so she went off on her own? What if he followed her? The trouble is, I can't seem to tie this into the plot, which should climax in a battle between the Duraghs and the humans, in which the protagonist has to decide who she's really loyal to, seeing as she's half-human half-Duragh. Should I scrap that plot, and just see where the what if's take me, or should I stick with the original plot? ![]() P.S. I don't want a critique about how much my plot sucks. I just want help getting it going again. |

*Moved to the help forum.* Maybe, if you want to involve humans, you could have the boy telling her that the humans have captured a dragon or something, but he doesn't know if it's the one she's looking for. Or they could be chasing a dragon or something? I'm not really sure, as I don't really know the story really well and I don't want to give you a load of cliche ideas . . . Maybe fiddle around with having a plot twist or something? The 'what if' questions are a good start.

Thanks! I got past this by figuring out an ending and working backwards. I kind of dropped this novel, though. I'll use it in the future, when I have no ideas.
