Well. I'm perturbed. The Republicans in Texas want to teach children every thing we've kept out of school textbooks for a -very- long time. It seems that this is an attempt to influence the next generation of voters to keep them in power. I mean, it's unfair to tout the Republican hand in things without showing the Democratic things. History, written to benefit certain peoples is not true history, but rather a miserable fraction of the truth.

The irony of this is that I just finished reading Animal Farm. Education of the young, anyone?

The sad thing is, the supposed "Conservative Resurgance" never happened. All of the organizations proposed as being part of it in this new textbook cirriculum began as much more honest, moderate/liberal Republican organizations that opposed the Conservative party line. They only later hardened into political mouthpieces of the Conservative sects once Federal law gave them what they wanted.

There was no resurgance, just a general rise of stupidity in the world. :suicide:

This really won't be such a big deal. This is the digital age, no teacher is required to teach from only one textbook. So long as they notify their local board of the cirriculum they intend to teach and it's approved by said board - they can technically pull out any textbook they want to use at any time and run with it. Thus, in Republican-dominated districts, children will forever be handicapped by the self-loving Conservative Bubble (akin to the Housing Market Bubble of recent history). Meanwhile, in more Democrat or Independant-leaning districts, history will be preserved as it always should have been.

After all, the old textbooks were written by Republicans too. They didn't have a problem with them then, and as a Repubican I still don't have a problem with them now. If I wanna laugh at my colleagues stupidity - I have Wiki for that.

In College teachers don't even need to use text books if they don't want to. Two of my teachers chose to save money then have the school and students waste money buying books they didn't need.

However this is also specific CJ classes with cops teaching them so it is probably a lot easier for them to throw out the books then it is for another teacher (assuming how much info they actually know off the top of their head).

If my History classes in California are any indication of the situation in Texas, none of the students will be able to read well enough to even detect the bias in statements found in these books. *Shrugs*

That, and other than me, nobody really cares to read the books anyway. Students would rather sleep in class and text on their phones than listen to Republicans call socialism evil or Democrats call capitalism bullying.

I really don't see it affecting anyone. Texas is simply doing their own thing (hell, they even threatened to secede from the Union again).

You know what the kicker is? Their main argument is that "the curriculum is always liberally biased," yet I haven't seen any solid evidence of liberal bias.

Indeed. Even in my schools, we always used the California Edition of every textbook, and in every case, the writer's always went out of their way to present both sides of the arguement fairly.
