If you have a Steam account, download the Public Beta. Game = awesome.

Zekes_Rival: You see, what they don't show is that when Gato ovary-punched Nina, he aborted Kou Uraki's baby and replaced it with his own seed.

WWII strategy game, similar to C&C.

The game play and graphics are good, though imo the games namesake special abilities (Ruse) are a bit underpowered in the timer department.

Nations available are the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Soviets.

Also, Camo and Blitz ruse is your best friends.

I checked the game out, and besides evaluating it I also ran some tests and let the old alpha-tester in me shine. I am sure Ubi and their co-author will enjoy my error logs. Did you know getting 2k/sec economy will crash the game? Forever?

Anyways- as a giant RTS fan I was really disappointed in the game.

The graphics, while not awful, were subpar - especially when compared to such visually sexy-fied modern [but already out] pieces like World in Conflict. It seemed the map interface tried to borrow as much from WiC as possible without being enough to call plagiarism (despite it being an Ubisoft game also), while adding no worthwhile features and removing some that made WiC so great. The unit models and textures were also disappointing; while vaguely historically accurate they left much to be desired and felt like C&C Generals units in their polycount limit- this combined with the obnoxious unit scaling based on zoom distance, made what should have been a dream-come-true ordering a Maus around into a chore. This is compounded by the lack luster audio. The ME-262 should be roaring through the skies with pants-crapping awesometude, not buzzing along like some corporate puddlehopper.

On that note, the game has virtually no interactivity. If I select to build a supply depot route, it automatically jumps my mouse to the next closest and available depot. Once built, all units boil down to "Stand here" "go stand here" or "Shoot this"; despite many units being noted as being able to 'set up ambushes'. While this is indeed similar to most basic RTS units and unit systems, this is just amplified by the -one button- command system. This game is completely playable with literally only a mouse [this is a bad thing].

The AI was cheap, and suffers from the same 'bug' that AI in most all RTS's have suffered from for some 10 years now. With no cap on it's actual resources, and gathering only some vague action it does to look busy, I found the AI quick to spam artillery - sit in it's base - and let it auto shoot at all my shit. This is particularly frustrating by the fact that the only map you can run with AI, 1v1 retardedsmall, is smaller than the T2 base artillery and PT1 and PT2 artillery ranges. The battle boils down to "Who spammed the most artillery pieces." Which is always the AI, as the player soon finds that resources for themselves are in fact not unlimited and the artillery already built by AI picks your supply trucks apart on the road. This was all frustrated by the fact that I had, literally, uncontested paratrooper forces nuking their trucks on the road [not one got through], and yet still arty was rolling out of their depot like fleas.

Really it seems they wanted to take the fast pace maneuver warfare of WiC (which is an epic game), and somehow breed it with the C&C/other style of base building and resource gathering --- and failed epically at it. The result is a game that wants to move fast, whether you like it or not ('Unlimited' time setting is actually only an hour), while also wanting you to stop and build up a base, defend that base, attack your enemies base, gather resources, defend resources, oh but you have to do this all quickly. Because the resources are severely fucking limited.

Once you realize how it works, your fight is essentially; Start with 200 bucks -> Secure 1 depot -> Secure 2 depot -> Build 1x passive economy structure (if 1945) -> Built 1 kind of ground-based production facility -> Pick a unit -> Spam it until your enemy dies or ragequits.

Really, on a 10 point scale I would be loathe to give it more than a 3/10. At most, 5/10. It did run smoothly, even during massive (can't say epic as they were all staged) battles in the middle of the 8 player map, but left so much to be desired.

Settings were all on high for Audio and Visual.

E6600
32-bit Windows XP
3 GB Effective RAM
Creative X-Fi Soundcard
2x 8800GTS (768mb ea. in SLI)

It crashed when you hit 2k econ O.o

I so have to try that now >_>

It is a very "point-and-click" game, which I have to chalk up to it being for console first (360) and PC second. From what I know of WiC (I really want to buy the game, but thus far I have only seen it played) it is more PC oriented then Console oriented.

As for my experiences, it is very much more like a WWII C&C game with the historical accuracy of a Total War game then a real WWII RTS simulator. The fact that a quick 5 min rush is a legitimate strategy (used against AI and players, fun laughs). I only had the arty spam problem with the AI for my first couple of games, but when I started using the RUSE ability to camo my movements, uncover the AIs, and fake offensives, even the Easy AI (which is the max lvl in the beta test) diversified its offense and defense forces.

Being a massive fan of RTS games I have played better ones, but I've also played far worse (Supreme Commander...my god). So with nothing else being said that hasn't already been covered a 3-5 out of 10 seems about right. Will it be worth the $50 to $60 when it comes out (pc or console)? If you like C&C, like WWII, or like RTS games, yes it will be. If you're new to RTS or don't enjoy the previous categories as much, wait for it to drop down in price a good 10-20 bucks at least.

Though I also like to throw my money away...(Halo Wars, ODST, Supreme Commander...my god >_>)
