It was clearly one of the darkest days of Aiekarian history. Even the utter destruction of the city during the War of Iron and Blood could never have the devastating effect like this. Destroyed buildings could be rebuilt... but what could happen if the inhabitants, the true force that always made the city heal after any war, were taken away? Today, as the Empire ordered, it was happening. All people of other races than human or saphyne were ordered to gather in the former Academy park, the very centre of Aiekara where the Crystal stood before the occupation. Families of dwarves and neevaes that didn´t leave straight after the siege, some of the few rhugvanian merchants, mercenaries and shamans that were staying in the city. A few people one would perhaps say. The truth was - about one quater of all the survivors of the siege, together with the ones that already left after the newest "Protection Law" was introduced. All the diversity Aiekara has been center of since immemorial was being violently wiped out. Despite it was just before the noon, it was rather dark. The sky was covered by thick clouds and the air had an unpleasant, chilly, one would say "dead" feel to it. Everybody knew this from the time during the siege in summer, the effect of vast amount of nether diffused in the air, caused by presence of high number of dark mages. They were all surrounded by what became of the city guard of Aiekara: Teimzurrian soldiers assigned to maintain order in the conquered city. Full circle of wall of shields and swords around them. Most of the original city guard was either killed in the siege or left their position shortly after the conquest, often to retire... or join one of the numerous thief guilds. "People of-... heh, no, definetly no," a female mage spoke infront of the crowd by voice amplified by a spell. "That wouldn´t be really suiting," she said for herself, eventually raising her voice again: "Lesser races! Scum and outlaws unwanted in the Empire!" she grinned viciously. "Oh yes, that sounds much more suiting..." It was the same dark mage the Hawks reported to be present in the Aiekara Artificial Iontae Creation Laboratory just a few days ago. "According to the latest Protection Law, by the will of the people of our Empire presented by His Majesty Emperor Garvez himself, you are no longer welcome in this place! Thus, you will be escorted out of this city and out of the of the Empire so your presence will no longer taint our lands! All your belongings, perhaps aside of the clothes to cover the wretched bodies of yours, have to stay here, as they rightfully belong to the Empire and its people." She paused and watched the gathered infront of her. The quiet talk between them. As she expected, about how unjust it all was. Well... thats why she made sure she had assisntance of soldiers and other mages around in handling them. "You will be escorted to the Great Aona Wall. Whatever happens with you or wherever you go outside our lands, is none of our business. However... whoever will try to escape before you are behind that wall will be killed on sight. Is that clear?" "More than clear, I believe." Another person stepped next to her from behind. He was wearing a white robe with a hood falling over most of his face. "Who-?!" It didn´t take more than a second for her to aim her wand on him. "How dare you!!" "I am a part of organisation that calls itself the New White Order," the man replied calmly. "That´s enough! Tempus temporis-" "Contego aegis!" A shockwave blowed air from the place where the two opposite spells collided. Everybody in the area turned to the two. Eventually, there was the dark mage staring at the raised hand of the stranger. "We do not wish to fight with you. But we are here to take care of the expelled." "You cannot-" "We can and we will," the man under the cloak replied while lowering his hand before the still amazed yet for her dominance struggling mage. "We do not wish to fight you. We will follow the rules you have set. But we will go together with those people and provide them the care you deny. We will go with them peacefully. That doesn´t oppose any of the Protection Laws you dictated to us so far. Is that correct?" "It..." "Thank you, then. And now... people of Aiekara that were forced out of their homes! We bring you supplies!" With that, he disappeared inside the crowd, together with numerous other people dressed in white robes coming from all around. "Fine..." the dark mage narrowed her eyes in anger. "Do whatever you wish. now, move out!" she pointed her wand towards the sky. "City guards... on my mark!" She released a steady stream of nether towards the clouds. At the same time, the circle of guards around the people started to narrow and push them out of the area... ...and tens of other columns of dark, pulsating energy struck the clouds from below. The city was full of dark mages, and they responded to the one call. It started raining. But not just an ordinary rain. This one was spiteful, malicious. The drops of nearly freezing water were filled by dark energy, draining the lifeforce of any living being they landed on. Everybody in Aiekara hid themselves, and the write mages in the convoy escorted by the imperials raised shields of light magic above the people to keep them from harm. And so, they left the city. An event that would become known between the citizens of Aiekara as the Trail of Tears. Unknown to anybody down there, two people were standing on one of the rooftops near the main street the convoy passed by. Actually, four beings in total. Neither of them shielded themselves form the rain. Two of them, standing on each side of the two persons, were "animals", panthers formed of nether. They seemed to enjoy the rain, turned around in it playfully, jumped up towards the drops and drank them. The very well known false-summoned companions of Garix Aenecia. "I wish I could do anything for them..." he spoke gloomily as the rain ran down his wet, grey robes, white hair and strangely youth-looking skin. "Just look what is becoming of Aiekara..." "You are doing the best you can, I assure you." The second voice was well know, as well. The elite agent of Hvevot Erdri, Spectre. "A double agent is needed, to keep an eye on the Empire from within, and to lessen the weight of their fist landing on Aiekara." "I know they are shielding something away from me there, tho. And Lionir is-" "I informed our leader about regent´s state. The meeting of the guild will take place soon. I will give them all the information you helped us to gather. You are playing a very important part in all of this, I ensure you, so don´t look bad on yourself." "As a person to be hated by the people... I will try." |
