It seemed like an ordinary, silent night. Full moon stood high above Aiekara, giving the city plenty of light. It was close to midnight when a group of cloaked figures passed through the half-rebuilt Raven Gate. They were four, the middle ones carrying a lectica with a heavy chest on it. A chest marked by a very well known symbol on Iralthia, the "all-seeing eye", emblem of the Dark Order. They had no problems to pass unnoticed since the city had no night guards yet. The ones who used to watch over it died during the siege and the few that remained had to assist the soldiers dispatched by Teimzurr to maintain peace within the occupied city. But... someone watched them. A shadow, silently running high on the peaks of the gate walls. Just as they were about to leave the city for good, it jumped. It silently flew through the midnight air and landed infront of them. The caravan stopped in a shock, the first and the last person in it quickly taking their magic wands in hands. The last thing they needed was someone to witness their depart. "Who are you!" the first one hissed. The intruder silently laughted and stood up. It was a tall man cloaked in white cloth with a hood over his eyes, only a slight grin visible from his whole face in the moonlight. "One would say that you could already tell yourself?" he said and raised his right hand. There were three long iron claws pointing out from under his sleeve. "Just look closely on my arm." A cross-like emblem glittered on his cloth. "Yes, I recognise it! Are YOU the one who put those stupid papers on our doors?!" one of the figures asked angrily. "Not precisely me, but yes, I belong to the organisation that did it." the intruder said calmly, not letting his eyes go from the leader of the caravan. "So ´Hvevot Erdri´, eh?" he smirked. "Do you have any idea who are you trying to frigten?" He took down his hood and raised his wand against the white-robed man. "First time, out eyes are set," he replied shortly. "What are you talking ab- well, it doesn´t matter! Get out of our way, now!" the mage raised his voice. "Second time, our hand is aimed..." was the only answer he recieved. The stranger didn´t move at all. "That´s enough of your stupid talks! Tempus temporis- aaaAA!" he screamed out. A small arrow shot the wand out of his hand and a second one stuck deep into his arm. "What are you-?!" "We warned you, but you didn´t listen." He stood with his hands folded. "This is what happens to those who ignore our warnings." He nodded towards the second mage. He was already lying dead, several arrows sticking out of his body. "I- I don´t care, I will- get him!" the mage screamed out on the two slaves carrying the chest. They immediately left their burden and took out small shortswords to attack the stranger. "What precisely are you trying to accomplish, Neksak?" he dodged the weak attack of the two Neeva slaves, standing still. "We know everything about you, and you lost your chance to redeem yourself," he broke their swords by a single swing of the iron claw. "You are surrounded. Accept your defeat." He pointed all around the caravan. There were seven other people, all dressed in white or grey as him, aiming on the lone mage by crossbows. "But... that´s not possible! You can´t do that!" It was clear the mage knew he was losing soil under his feet. "You know that you... you can´t kill me!" he left out a short laugh cut in the end. "If those arrows weren´t imbued by the strongest holy spells you can imagine, we couldn´t. But I am afraid that by now, your existance on this world has come to its end, dark creature." It was nearly insane how calmly the intruder could say these words. "No. No! You... you just CAN´T-" the mage screamed, looking frantically for a gap in the circle that was closing around him. There was none. "All the slaves you have taken. All the lives you have ended. All the suffering you have caused..." the figure took a deep breath. "In the name of Rheia and her servant Yegash, we are Hvevot Erdri, stewards of Her might." The mage tried to break away and run. The arrows were quicker. "...third time, your head will fall." he said when the mage´s body hit the ground. His mind-controlled slaves collapsed, too, the link to their master has been severed. But unlike him, they weren´t dead. "Higher judgement awaits you," he added and turned away from the lifeless body. "Take these two Neevaes back to the city." he ordered the others and walked towards the chest, opening it by his left arm, hidden under a long sleeve. "I will deliver this back to the Academy, where it belongs." ============================================ In the morning, the Teimzurrian guards found two dead dark mages with only a small piece of parchment in the hand of one of them: "We are Hvevot Erdri. We have awakened." |
