By the time the twin hedgehogs arrived, the sun was settling low against the western sky, pooling into the sapphire water of the open sea. At this point, Sonic didn't feel the urge to run away from the carbon copy. He seemed pretty laid back, although his tone was a bit condescending as far as he was concerned. Looking at the bat in question, he smirked, leaning against a post with his back to the ocean. The bat clanged lightly against the cement pathway as he lifted it and let it slip free just an inch every few seconds out of idle movement. "Sometimes life throws you a tough break." He dismissed it as if it were the most common thing, and that he wasn't responsible. When Sonic asked how it was possible that they could be the same person, he looked up with a final clank of the aluminum instrument. "Huh?" Even behind his sunglasses the expression was clear. He apparently hadn't given the technicality much thought. Sure, Finitevus explained that he was in a different world or something than what he was used to, but he had never explained (not in terms the blue hedgehog could understand) how he ended up here. Or how it was even possible for two separate worlds with the same person to coexist. He simply shrugged. Hell if he knew. "All I know, is I'm Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm the fastest thing alive and can't nothin' touch me. I wake up and I'm here. And you're Sonic the Hedgehog, too. I'm not a scientist or anything." As if disgusted that anyone would ask him to explain anything, he looked out over the horizon. He stared, brows furrowing more and more until he turned around, knocking the bat off balance against his knee and into the water. He raised his sunglasses. Lowered them. "What ... is that? An island in the sky?" He leaned way out over the water. Speaking of how things were possible.. how did that work?! |

Head tilting at the answers with which he was presented, finding them more than a little vague, Sonic gazed steadily at him. It didn’t quite tell him what he wanted to know, but as far as an explanation, he was sure he wouldn’t get much more than that. “Yeah, that seems right... or at least close,” he said in agreement, turning to lean against the adjacent post. "Then we're both the fastest things alive, huh... Sonic?" He couldn't help but snicker. "I may just have to challenge you to another race so we can sort it out... without that bat next time." But there was still the fact that, as his like appearance had confused Sonic, his presence there was bound to bring even more confusion. Sonic was distracted from this contemplation with the other’s sudden movement. “Huh?” He turned as well, glancing out toward the island, and then looked to the other hedgehog with a knowing grin. “Oh yeah, Angel Island. The Master Emerald keeps it floating like that. Ya mean it’s not the same where you’re from?” Wherever that was. "It's nothing; it's just like that here." He nonchalantly shrugged it off, as though his greater knowledge put him a step over the other. |

Sonic didn't have to worry about the bat anymore. At least not that one. It was bobbing off into the water, too far below the docks to be reached without someone diving in. When Sonic started to talk, the other tensed. It was somehow more eerie hearing his voice when he looked away from his carbon copy. At the sound of his name, Sonic flinched, giving a shudder he didn't like. It was something akin to fear, but that wasn't .. quite.. it. Narrowing his eyes, he turned back around. "I know islands and islands don't float in the sky." All the same, he couldn't argue much. He didn't know whether islands hovered in the sky here or not. It might be a whole different set of physics. Wait a minute. "Master Emerald? Is that one of those glowing rocks?" If Sonic had seen them, he would know what he was talking about. |

Unlike the other Sonic, he was beginning to take this in stride much more easily. It was even a little amusing to him, weirdness aside. And so, despite the very likely possibility of complications resulting from there being two Sonics in the same place, he was going to think more lightly of it in the meantime. "I didn't realize you were an expert," he chuckled, relaxing against the post once again, arms falling lazily to his sides. "Does that mean you think that's just an illusion? Maybe a zeppelin diguised really well as an island?" Sonic raised one hand to gesture, controlling his expression enough to appear inquisitive, though it would probably be obvious to his twin by the look in his eyes that he could just as well laugh at the joking at any moment. However, the question about the Master Emerald surprised him. As this Sonic hadn't known about it, he had assumed he wouldn't know about the emeralds, either. "Hm? You talking about Chaos Emeralds?" Sonic nodded as he proceeded with a condensed explanation. "Well, it's not exactly one of them, but they are related... How do ya know about those, anyway?" |

Sonic better not get too comfortable with the idea. He still had a few unhappy store clerks in town with the description of a specific hedgehog police could not easily get confused. While this hedgehog was used to the idea of being a common thief and criminal, the other might not quite as overjoyed by his actions. "Oh, a smartass. So next you're gonna tell me you can fly?" Yeah, right. Cute, real cute. Islands weren't supposed to float in the air. They just weren't, okay? But if those Emeralds that the echidna referred to and the one that held this island up were similar, he was beginning to believe this infinite power BS. Little by little. He grinned at the question. Should he respond? Nah. "Aw, you're tryin' to get me in trouble, aren't you?" He sprang back onto the post, balancing his weight onto one foot. "Actually, I just don't want to tell you." No real reasoning behind it, as he didn't really suspect Finitevus would care if he did reveal his source. Then again, they were asked to lay low about the doctor's identity. Maybe this was actually a good idea, keeping his mouth shut for once. |

"I'm not gonna try to make you believe it, I'm just telling you how it is," Sonic replied coolly. He didn't know whether his double would be sticking around, but if he did, he wouldn't be needing to give much more explanation or convincing. "But since it's right there, there's not much more to say about it. Think whatever you want." Given the answer he presented concerning the Master Emerald, he was puzzled by the other hedgehog's unwillingness to return the favor, but expressed that annoyance with only a narrowed eye on him. He watched his progress as he leaped to the post, but didn't move from where he stood. "If you say so. I didn't know it was a secret." It wasn't as if he was desperate to receive an answer, anyway. Sonic shifted a little, enough to keep his gaze on the other, but remained where he stood. "Might wanna watch it," he advised, tone cool as before. "You don't wanna fall in, do ya?" He flicked a gesture to the expanse of water. If this hedgehog was anything like him, the warning might not be uncalled for. |

It may or may not have been a secret, but it was better to keep his trap closed on the matter. Since he hadn't been given orders yet, he felt like he made a pretty sound decision on the matter. When the other mentioned the water, he looked down, then back, and shrugged. "It's not the cleanest, but I have good balance." His eyes scanned the boats behind him now. Houseboats. He was tempted to see what some of these people were hiding in their nice little floating palaces. People typically came ashore this time of day to shower, buy groceries, head out for a night on the town, or pay the bills. Which meant they were generally empty. The lens were lifted to rest on his forehead. He grinned. "How much you wanna bet that girl over there cost him?" Considering his gaze was set out slightly in the distance, it was hard to tell if he was referring to the larger of the boats, pearly white, bobbing in the water, or the boat this side of it with an older man and 20-something in a string bikini. Actually, if asked, he might have stated that he was referring to both. He shot a gleaming smirk towards his counterpart. "Wanna hit it? Looks like no one's aboard." |

After partially inclining his head to acknowledge him, leaving the conversation at that, Sonic glanced over to follow his gaze to what he appeared to find so worthy of attention. He couldn't see why he found the houseboats all that fascinating, considering he had just been so surprised at the sight of a floating island. Sonic glanced back again when the other spoke, and then blinked as he looked around to see what he was pointing out to him, arms folding loosely. "Dunno," he replied, indeed not sure which he might have meant, but responding with a question, just as unclear. "Why? Were you saving up?" He followed up with a sly glance before turning, still leaning against the post, but readjusting in order to stare out at the houseboats. His attention was again drawn to the identical hedgehog with the proposal he put to him, and Sonic stared at him incredulously before firmly shaking his head. "I don't think so." And he better not be planning on it anyway, or he'd have no choice but to stop him; Sonic couldn't very well allow someone indistinguishable from himself to engage in that sort of exploit. "I don't know what it's like where you're from, but I've got my own reputation," he stated, a bit more seriously. |

Beauty of it is, so did Sonic. He had a reputation he wasn't willing to let go of easily, and that was one that made others stay out of his way.. at least anyone that knew him. He stared at the other for a moment, sizing him up (for once in plain sight.) Well, despite his serious tone, this guy didn't seem too threatening, so maybe, "You're kidding, right? It's gotta be loaded, and it'd be a piece of cake for the two of us to clean it out nice before anyone even saw us." He had to be reasonable about this. As easy a hit this would be, he didn't think it was a question at all. |

Once more, Sonic's answer was to shake his head, this time also stepping away from the post to further make plain that he meant to stick to his guns on his decision. "Nope. I'm out." Before long, however, stubbornness easily gave way to a smirk, slightly mischievous. The race had been one thing, but if he chose to persist with the idea without his help, the sort of opposition that could provide might just give him a chance for some entertainment. "How about it? You still gonna try? Better think on it; while I'm here it won't be such a 'piece of cake.'" True to his words, Sonic stayed in place to watch him, daring him to even make a move to go through with his stated plan. |

"That so?" Sonic laughed, shifting his weight to tap the toe of his boot against the top of his perch. "I think I've proven my ability to get one up on you twice today, babe. I wouldn't be so sure." Granted, both times he had that bat, but his twin did seem to be pretty unsuspecting, which gave him the upper-hand. It was a shame that the guy was a total party-pooper, though. Really put a damper on his fun. What did he have against gaining a bit of wealth? Surely no intelligent or even sentient being would turn down free money or goods. "Heh," he grunted to himself while weighing out his options. |

Unimpressed, Sonic cast a look out over the water to the boats, and then back to the other hedgehog. He hardly felt what he was reminding him was worth mentioning, but was more than willing to show him he wouldn't have any success with a third time. Even so, he seemed to be mostly talk, and so Sonic remained fairly relaxed as he observed him. "You done?" He kicked his toe lightly against the ground behind him, starting to lose interest, unusual though this whole encounter was. "Much as I've enjoyed this talk, I'd like to know whether I have to stay and keep an eye on ya. Anything else you wanted to say?" |

He shot back a smug look, not at all phased by the expression on Sonic's face. "Sure, I'm done." For the moment, anyhow. If he found something else worth saying, he'd just let the goody-goody doppelganger know when it struck his fancy. He stretched, extending his arms high over his head. Keep an eye on him? "Only if you want to." He chuckled darkly, making it sound very much like the other Sonic was asking about something completely different. "I don't mind an audience." Much. There might be a limit, but since that audience would be one useless old bag, a hot chick, and some do-gooder punk that looked like him, he didn't care. As long as it wasn't the fuzz. (And even if it was the police, look how effective they were around here. Didn't even approach him earlier when he was roughing the place up.) |

Sonic hesitated to mull over the answer he was given. Was that some kind of dare? As for his tone of voice, he wasn't at all sure what to make of it. Not to mention, the vagueness aggravated the impatience he was already feeling. He had little difficulty with hiding this detail, however, giving his own display of haughty self-assurance while he looked down his nose at his mirror image. "In that case, I might stick around," he said, as though the idea was wearisome, shrugging offhandedly. "Depends what I think of the show." Might as well do his part as a hero to keep any possible acts of thieving or otherwise in check. And, if he was seen, there was of course the risk of this Sonic being mistaken for him. |

Sonic licked his lips as he stopped the show of stretching in front of the other, letting his arms swing back by his side. He gave a smart grin, "It'll be a good show, babe. Honest." He didn't plan to disappoint, either. He launched from his perch on the dock to the nearest boat, leaping nimbly from one level to the next, unperturbed by the rocking of the boats against the waves, or the dark waters below. Heavy boots thudded loudly, almost lazily against the surfaces he covered, even at this speed. He suspected the other Sonic was close on his heels, but he still had one very important stop to make on the way - in nothing more than a flash of dark blue, the young woman's top disappeared. The hedgehog took the chance to glance over his shoulder, grinning ear-to-ear at the new sight before dropping behind the cabin of the targeted boathouse. |
