Skipping beats in abc files
Topic Started: May 3 2011, 09:25 AM (153 Views)

Well, I've been trying to figure out why my abc(s) of I'm A Believer keep skipping beats every couple bars. I've determined that the midi file does /not/ have those skips in it anywhere, so it must have occurred when the lotro midi player translated the tracks. Playing with the midi file in an attempt to compensage did not seem to help (made it worse, actually), so the only other option I can think of is to edit the abc files directly. Unfortunately I can't find a program that works on my system (Win7) to do that, and I'm not confident in my abilities to edit the raw abc file.

Any suggestions?

Did you try to do a repair the midi file?
(open the midi in anvil, go to the file menu and choose "repair midi" make it get rid of the 0 length notes. Not sure if it will fixed your issue but it is worth a short.

Something Vydor helped me fix in another tune--is the tempo an odd number (in the midi, if you're using Anvil, it's at the top of the screen)? If so, change it up/down just enough to get it to be a multiple of 4 or 8. Odd numbered tempos can result in a "chugging" sensation when you run a midi through LOTROMidi to make the ABC file.

Woohoo! That did it. Thanks Falibrand! I'll fix the headers and whatnot and re-up it tonight (or maybe tomorrow am - depends on how into Mass Effect 2 I get ;) ).

I'm glad it worked for your song, timing is everything. :)

Be careful of using the repair function in Anvil Studio. It might just get rid of a major part of your song. Be sure to save it with a different file name to make sure.
