So every year at my school the senior class puts forth a bunch of money to hire a hypnotist to put on a two hour show after senior night for the varsity basketball team. Obviously, not all the money raised goes towards the hypnotist, so it's a good fundraiser, and it's a great way to get support for our team [which sucks bollocks, so it generally doesn't get any support otherwise]. I am a senior this year, so I got to go. I didn't sign up to be a hypnotee [does that sound right? you get my point]. I should have. I wanted to. I basically didn't know I had to until I got there, at which point it was too late. But anyways, I'm telling you. This hypnotism junk? It's totally whack. The guy had me, sitting in the audience, flopping over in my seat in the first five minutes. If my friend hadn't poked me and started talking to me, I would have gotten hypnotized, too. It was crazy. Sitting there after he had initially put them to sleep was insane. They were all just laying there, slumped over on top of each other, completely still. Then he had the "wake up." Then fall asleep again. Then he repeated this, and by the third time some of them were on the floor on top of each other, totally passed out. He had them doing crazy things: acting like their favorite super heroes, thinking they were in the middle of a war, counting weird, winning a million bucks in a horse race, becoming the best lifeguard ever, marrying kermit the frog. One guy was Buffy the cheerleader, but when he cheered he spelt his name wrong. One poor kid sat on the stage the whole time completely comatose, and when he thought he woke up he was still so out of it all he could say was his name, couldn't stand, and just sat there rocking and staring with intense concern at the hypnotist. At one point, the hypnotist told them that when they "woke up" he would be completely invisible. And so they woke up and fuck they believed it. He picked a girl up and she started crying she was so scared. He moved chairs around and picked up someone's shoes and walked them thru the air and a bandana and danced that around and my friend Greyson got this look on his face like he thought maybe he'd just skunked himself out but he was pretty sure he hadn't been smokin. All the kids on stage were staying as far away from him as possible, totally scared shitless of all the things he was moving. Some of them looked for him. When he told them to sleep, they'd just zonk. One girl zonked and fell off her chair. It was... blah, it was hysterical, but at the same time it was astounding and a bit creepy. I know how he did it. The way he almost got me without having me do some of the "tricks" was just focus- the same way I meditate when I do my breathing excersizes and shit. [I've managed to lower my resting heart rate quite bit, and raise my capacity. Makes working out hella easier.] So theoretically, I could hypnotize myself. But I just... wow. It was so weird, to see all those people sitting there, completely under his control. Even when they thought they were awake, he'd given them trigger words linked to suggestions, and when he said those words while they were awake, they'd act on those suggestions, zoning out again. It was WEIRD. BLARGH. I gotta go see another hypnotism show. I was astounded. I thought it was a load of crap at first, and then I started to realise that... well, it wasn't. About the time when I almost passed out. xD SO. Share with me your thoughts on/experiences with hypnotism. |

Never had an experience, but it would be pretty cool. I'd like to be put under and have the dude ask me questions about my early childhood. I can't remember a lot of it, and one thing I /really/ want to know: Did I really talk to ghosts? Or was I just playing a game? I can't remember, and it's drove me crazy for /years/. |
