Sokuyo
News In Brief

May 23rd, 2009

We really need more members and with more members, more staff to help out. I really think we can get this site to be a pretty decently sized site. I will be working a bit on ideas for the place, so be prepared to see some new stuff coming up.

May 27, 2009

My boyfriend dumped me yesterday, and so I will of course end up being depressed and such for awhile and won't have the desire to come on here. I hope that the Moderators will be able to keep this place running as long as I am in need of my break. Hopefully Mandy will also be around to help.

WEATHER
SPRING

Sunny.

With Spring well on its way, we all know that Summer is just around the corner. There are no more jackets or anything of the like. As a matter of fact, shorts and tank tops have come back. Sokuyo is hitting an average of 75 degrees.

We hope you enjoy your visit.

Teaching Your Pokemon a New Move; via Role-Play

As per many Pokemon RPGs, one can teach their Pokemon a move before they learn it through Role-Play. It is very difficult, however, as it takes many, many posts to fully teach the attack to the Pokemon.

The key is to include enough detail into your training to help the Pokemon understand what you want them to do, yet leave it open enough for the next ref to say if it worked or not. You can't say that it did or did not succeed; that would be cheating. For example:

Bad

Pamela looked down at her Weavile gently.
"Come here, dear," she said. "I wish to teach you something. Make a fist, fill it with ice, and punch, okay?"
Weavile did as it was told. The Ice Punch was successful!!

It is easy to see why that is a bad post. Not enough detail, Pokemon learned it to quickly, not to mention they godmodded. There is also a pesky little adverb in there that can be done away with.

Good

Pamela looked down at her Weavile, her eyes shining with warmth.
"Come here, dear," she said. "I wish to teach you something."
Weavile came over, and sat before his trainer, wondering what she'd do.
"You know the wind?" she asked. "You know how it feels against your skin? How cold it is? I want you to learn Powder Snow. In order to do that, you have to focus on how the cold wind feels, how it swirls about you... you must get a feel for it, then focus on controlling it so that you may use it as an attack. It is easier here, in the cold moutains, but where it is warmer, you'll need to learn how to make the wind cold... Do you understand?"
Weavile nodded, uncertain.
"Well, do your best dear. I don't expect you to do it all in one go. For now, just close your eyes and focus on the wind."
The Pokemon closed its eyes and stood still, focusing, hoping it would find the answer...

Now that is a quality post. Detailed, no godmodding, and no pesky adverbs.

Anyways, it might take a while, but its possible. Just keep trying, and don't push your Pokemon too hard lest they rebel.
