This tutorial will teach you how to make realistic sims of real people. I decided making a little tutorial for those who are interested in photo skinning after reading Tiffy doesnt know what free transform tool does. Everyone obviously has their own way of using Photoshop but here I am sharing my own way, hoping it would be helpful for some of you out there. ![]() Firstly with the "quick selection tool", I selected the face and and copied the selected area with ctrl + c keys, Then, I created an empty document with the ctrl + n keys, to paste the copied selection, so I could rotate it. ![]() When the create new document screen pops up, do not change any of the numbers, they automatically come according to the size of the part you copied. All you have to do is just to select OK . Then click on the empty document and paste the selected area using the keys ctrl + v. Then go to the tab named "Image" and select "Rotate Canvas" ![]() Then select "Arbitrary" to rotate the face, so that the angels of the picture would match the angels of the skin's face. ![]() CCW rotates to right, CW rotates to left. Give it small numbers until you find the right position. When it seems right, go to tools menu and select the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" and select the face by dragging from right to left and up and down. The copy the selection using ctrl + copy keys. ![]() Paste the selection Onto the skin, using ctrl + v ![]() Go to the layers section, and lower the opacity of layer 1, which is the pasted photo over the base texture, to be able to see the skin on the background, because you need to see the features of the face (eyes, nose, lips) while covering it with the new texture to make sure every feature falls into the right place. ![]() When the background is visible enough into the new texture, go to "Edit" tab, and select "Free Transform Tool" ![]() This tool will help you cover the main skin with the new texture. Use it by simply pulling from the corners; ![]() Until the new face, covers the old face like seen in the picture below: ![]() Now that the face is covered, get rid of the eyeballs by simply deleting them with the "erasor tool", but make sure, eyelashes and everything else stays in place. ![]() After selecting the "eraser tool", make sure your brush isnt too small or too big, 12px is usually the best to remove the eyes. ![]() Then start deleting. You may need to change the size of the brush, depending on the area you delete. As seen on the picture, I had to lower the brush size to 7px to delete the corners of the eye. ![]() Do the same actions to the other eye. ![]() When you see this, you're almost done. Now it's time to remove the hairlines with the "eraser tool" again. ![]() Now you've got the clean look. But you're still not done. You're now going to smoothen the cut / paste areas. So go to the tools menu, select the "Blur tool" ![]() The brush shouldn't be too big or too small. 30px - 35px is the avarage size. Mode should be left as normal, and the strength should be 100 so you would get a better and stronger result. ![]() Now move the brush over the lines of the face, especially above the head, till they are not sharp anymore. ![]() And now it's ready to save and use. Go to "file" tab, and select "save as" ![]() Check the file type, it should probably be in EPS format. You need to change this into BMP. After you select the BMP format, the other files in the folder should appear, and that means you're doing right. Now save the file without changing the name. When it's done, a message window will pop up , saying that a file with that name already exists, it will ask you if you would like to override, you should select "yes" and save your file, ready for use. *** Sorry for the picture spam. I hope I didn't confuse you with my way of explaining. Feel free to ask anything related to the tutorial. I hope this tutorial helps.

Cool tut - that's the way I would have done it, not too fussed about photoskinning though some of them look a right state of the ones I've seen - do we get to see the finished sim? |

Thanks for the tute Mozza!! I did think the finished sim would be part of the tutorial though. The finished product is nice to see to get an idea of how effective the work is.

great tutorial, mozza! for sharing it. however... what cinn and nat said. i want to see the finished sim too! seeing a great finished product is what will motivate people to go thru the steps of following the tutorial. the texture pic of the skin looks good, but the final analysis comes from actually seeing it on a sim. can't wait to see yours.

WOW! that looks fantastic and the skin so realistic! even with the attached eyebrows. i couldn't imagine female offspring with this skin. but it's a great tutorial for making celebrity (or self) sims that you're not planning to reproduce with.great job! ![]()
