The thing about computers is that over time there hard drives become fragmented, and they slow down, and then you have to pay a guy $900 to "fix" your computer, and he just ends up telling you you need a new one. Don't worry, the folks of the internet have the tools for you to do it yourself, and here I will explain them to you. CCleaner: Download This program will remove from your computer cookies and other data websites send to your computer to make them run better. This includes auto complete forms, like saved passwords for sites like this. CCleaner removes all that, gaining you sometimes alot of hard drive space. This program should be run bi-weekly. Adaware: Download Although technically a pay-for program, there are free versions on the site that work just as well. Adaware is a program the removes all the spyware that collects on your computer, the dreaded "Viruses" that crawl through Internet Explorer like an open window. this program will help speed up your computer, and should be ran bi-weekly. AVG: Download This program is responsible for removing the harmful Viruses that sometimes infect the computer (through IE). It is a very good anti-virus, and should be ran monthly. Defraggler: Download Probably the most useful program on the list, Defraggler will make your computer run like new again. Over time your hard drive gets fragmented, causing programs and games to run slower. Defraggler reverses this process, boosting your computers speed, though the program takes a long time to run, and is best done on a restart and overnight. You should probably run Defraggler once every one or two months. Firefox: Download The king of the browser war Firefox is the safest browser to date. It's built if firewall protects against 99.9% of all spyware and viruses (IE has a Welcome Mat for them) Firefox allows you to have multiple tabs, and is fully customizable. The best attachment being Stumble upon a toolbar that will send you to pages matching your interests. Edited by Arcane Dawn, 29/09/2008 - 09:00 pm.
