If you need to view and edit HDR-CX330 AVCHD in iMovie 11 you may have some problems. The Sony has just announced several new Handycam camcorders at CES 2014. Compared to HDR-CX240, the HDR-CX330 uses a Sony G lens, which offers a wider 35mm equivalent focal length of 26.8mm, and a more powerful zoom range, with 30x optical zoom and 60x Clear Image Zoom. Like the HDR-PJ275, it also adds Wi-Fi/NFC connectivity. The same notable upgrade is both the two cameras have the ability to record high-quality AVCHD video while simultaneously recording web-optimized MP4 video.

Here is an example. A Panasonic user has an MTS file of 4GB, codec H.264/MP4 AVC and bitrate 9kbps. When he imports this into iMovie it creates a MOV of 30GB with codec Apple Intermediate Codec and an average bitrate of 8Mbps. He wondering if there is an efficient conversion to avoid the massive increase in file size and keep the quality. Well, at this point, Aunsoft MTS Converter for Mac does pretty good job. Someone’s weakness is someone’s merit.
