Exactly right.. the human psyche becomes an enemy to the emotion you feel. When your thoughts go against your feelings, it's a battle inside that can only end badly. What it is that changes is your thoughts become dominant over your feelings, where you may have "inspired" what came out of you before, now you "control" very critically. The numbness comes from "believing" your emotions don't matter, and you become the "hollowed artist". By that time, if someone was to appreciate your art, you're quick to give a careless shrug or ignore it completely. You "do" become completely disconnected with your inner sense of... worth, maybe.

It doesn't seem like it's something you can recover either, or at least I wouldn't know how to reconnect.

Unfortunately I think that part relies on the people critiquing you. If you collected enough positives, I think your art could move back into a "healthy" level, hah.. so maybe you would have to find something that appeals to and pleases the masses. "Basically" selling yourself, which I haven't stooped to just yet.

I think it's just so easy to give up yourself and conform to what's acceptable to everyone else, but I'd hate myself forever if I had to live that life.

If you feel anger, as an artist it's important not to suppress this. I do my greatest work when I am at my most lowest low point (<<true misery). I don't know what kind of art it is you do, there have been hints of photography and poetry from you here and there, but I would suggest 'putting up a wall' to the outside world and discovering the inner world where you can escape and find inspiration for your art.

Anger for me just masks what I'm really feeling and thinking, so it hinders creativity for me. I know for a lot of artists, anger is the kind of intense emotion they thrive on, but I need to be able to think and when I'm angry my thoughts and feelings are really scattered. Kind of like this post.

I think you should feel lucky to even be able to consider yourself an aspiring talent. So many of the rest of us people in the world don't have creative talents, even if it's something we really want. I think if you call yourself an aspiring talent, it just means you're already talented, but you're critical of your talent. I'm sure that's not always a bad thing though.
