A student in your year has requested aid in part of his humanitarian mission in North East Africa. Falque LeFer is currently in an unmarked location near the Sudanese and Egyptian border, and since the Bushido Chamber’s teleportation device is infeasible for such blind travel, a plane and bus system has been arranged by Falque himself to his location. Compensation will be negotiable and to be determined upon arrival and completion of your duty.

Falque LeFer has stressed that this is an extremely dangerous task, as well as tasking on the body. He urges you to rest well before your arrival, for you will be working upwards of 16 hours each day for the following two or three days. Proper sun protection as well as camping and survival gear are essential. Rations are highly advised, though a large chain of relief rations will also be present for the local population. If you have not been up to date on vaccinations, you will need to be before travel. A doctor will see you at the airport due to short notice.

Your plane will arrive at 6:00 am tomorrow morning. You will not need tickets, rather your identification is all that is necessary. At least two pieces of picture ID will be required. Passports will not be necessary. The plane will fly for 13 hours non-stop until it reaches its destination in Cairo, where a charter bus drive you to the train station, where you will board the overnight train to Abu Simpel. A second private bus will accommodate you the remainder of your destination. Further details of train arrival and bus numbers, as well as their pick up times are on a separate sheet found in the envelope.

As a reminder, as students of Avalon and Azura, you are ambassadors of our kind not only to Africa, but to the world. Failure to exhibit proper behavior will lead to possible discipline on your return to the dual campus.

I'm a time-traveler! I travel forward at the miraculous rate of 60 seconds per minute
It wasn’t until the second bus that Evy finally slept. When she did, she sprawled out, splaying her limbs over her seat and the seat next to her, one leg draping off the bottom, a little drool trickling from the corner of her mouth. Even so she still looked tired, her face creased in a soft expression of concern, a little wrinkle in her brow, lips tight. Occasionally, she’d stir, flailing, maybe accidentally kicking the bus’s wall or hitting her hand on the seat rest. Even that wasn’t enough to wake her, and with a whimper she’d go back to sleep.

Evy hadn’t understood when she’d gotten the letter. Or maybe she had. She’d understood well enough. Falque, her friend, was in trouble, and she could help. Falque needed her. That was the key part, the essential part, the part that was the most important. She didn’t understand why or how, what she could to do help him but she knew, as soon as she set the paper down, wrinkled from where her fingers had gripped the edge too tightly and a little dirty because she hadn’t washed her hands since lunch, that she had to go.

Sevens hadn’t liked it. They had argued. A lot. Evy’s eyes had burned more than once at the thought of it during their trip, and she’d cried a little bit on the plane, sniffling softly and hiccupping into her hands as she pressed between her seat and the window. Sevens loved her. That’s why she was worried. Evy knew that. But it hadn’t been fun at all, not yelling at her girlfriend while Sevens signed things, angry things, with that fierce look on her face. She wasn’t scary, not her Sevens, but Evy didn’t like seeing her upset or mad and this had meant both.

But here Evy was. She’d packed – she’d tried really hard, had read the letter six times before she lost it. She had her elemental cloth outfit on, along with her ATRFs, and her PLEASED with the new PsiUA upgrade. Her safeguard pendant rested around her neck, although she could easily take it off. For the sun, she had a floppy hat with a wide brim, which had slid off her head onto the floor of the bus.

In her bag Evy had everything she could think to bring. She had her jack o’lantern, her masquerade and her bo staff. She’d told Damien that she was going away for a few days – and ended up crying about her fight with Sevens – and he’d offered to loan her a tent; he’d even helped her practice setting it up, and made sure she had a sleeping bag. She had a bunch of water, and water purification tablets that Darien had taken her to get. She had a big thing filled with cartons of apple juice, and two boxes of granola bars. She had rope; she wasn’t sure what she’d do with the rope but it seemed useful. She even had a knife. She’d managed to find the heal jar she’d gotten from Megan months earlier and brought that too, just in case.

Most importantly, Evy had packed a box of cookies for Falque.

She’d had to get a bunch of shots at the airport. They’d hurt, but she hadn’t cried or anything. Then. Anyway, she had to be brave for this trip. She’d gotten malarone too, and taken the first pill with their food on the plane. She had to be careful and not get malaria, or else. They’d finally made it on the plane, and she’d tried so hard to sleep. But she couldn’t, she just couldn’t. She fidgeted and squirmed almost the whole flight, taking a break from that only to sniffle or watch an inflight movie.

Evy was scared. She didn’t want to be but she was. Falque was really strong, really, really strong, and if this scared him, if he had to ask for help, if whatever he was doing was so tough that he needed help then Evy was already scared. She was already scared and she wasn’t even there yet. She was so scared that she had had nightmares the two nights before she’d left, both nights in a row, really bad ones. The few minutes she’d fallen asleep on the plane she’d had another one, a scary one, and she hadn’t wanted to sleep again after that.

She’d drawn for a while. She had her sketchpad, and, after wiping her eyes, she’d spent a little while drawing pretty things – drawing from photos of her friends, drawing tattoo designs she wanted to make. She made a sketch for Sevens, one of the girl leaping off a building, the way Evy always pictured her – her hair blowing in the wind, her arms outstretched, looking so brave and strong. It helped a little to draw it. When Evy was done she’d felt better, even if she still didn’t want to sleep.

She’d liked the train ride a lot. She liked trains, and she liked Egypt, and she’d chattered enthusiastically with the woman next to her for a bunch of the ride, practicing her Arabic. She learned a bunch of Egyptian words, and it was so fun that she nearly forgot how scared she was, except for the way her chest felt really tight and her stomach sort of churned. But other than that she had a really good time. Eventually though the lady had gone to sleep, and then Evy had been left alone and awake in the dark. She huddled under the blanket, staring out the window at the dark scenery going past.

Even now, she wasn’t sleeping well. One particularly bad jerk woke her and she let out a little whimper, rubbing her head where it had bumped the armrest. She took a deep breath, peering out the window, only to yawn sleepily and doze back off, flopped the opposite way this time. She wanted to stay awake, to talk to everybody, but she couldn’t. She was just too sleepy. Evy hoped they’d see Falque soon; she had a big hug that she’d been saving just for him and she desperately wanted to deliver it. Once she saw him, Evy hoped, she’d feel better – and then, maybe, she’d be able to help.

So, Falque needed some assistance. Why in god’s name he would ask Morton, he really didn’t know. But he had been gone for some time-off to some place in Africa, he had heard. Either way. Morton managed to make the 6:00 AM plane, and saw three familiar faces. Vahn, Evy, and Arthur. The third he didn’t know too well. The second, he knew only in a different persona. The first…well, Morton had dealt with a bunch of video game characters wielding ridiculous machine guns and rocket launchers a few weeks ago with Vahn. The trip on the plane was relatively quiet for Morton-save the occasional sob, or whimper from Evy.

Was she scared?

Morton couldn’t tell. To be honest, Morton was afraid. Falque wouldn’t ask for help unless he really needed it, and from what Morton remembered, Falque…well, he wasn’t a pushover. He was a headstrong, smart guy. He could take care of himself. The question to Morton now was could he do the same Falque did, and keep himself alive. He was expecting danger. A lot of it. He could tell when the doctor shoved him up with some shots right before they left. Let me make one thing clear-Morton hates shots. He hates them to death, and he almost considered leaving because of it.

But something kept him on-perhaps it was the people around him, or his genuine worry about Falque. He didn’t know him personally that well…in fact, probably not at all. Morton was well aware of the fact Falque had figured out who he was in costume…and was appreciative that he played along. Maybe that was why.

The reason didn’t matter to Morton anymore. He was coming. He had brought everything he had thought to bring-and some stuff Calvin suggested. Like water, and food. Oh yeah, that’s good too. Some sunscreen, bugspray, water, food, snacks, extra clothes, his elemental cloth (Which he had modified to NOT look like his Crimson Horn outfit anymore) his ATRF’s, which, would probably come in handy, a pillow, a sleeping bag, and most importantly, his DS. For boredom.

But he didn’t end up even thinking about playing it until he ended up on the bus. He had managed to sleep a bit on the plane, and so he was relatively awake. He would have talked to Evy, or Vahn, or Arthur, but…well, Evy seemed busy, Vahn was kind of scary and Arthur…well, Morton didn’t know Arthur. Eventually, they made their way onto the train, and Morton kicked back, pulling out his DS.

Might as well play some Pokémon while he had the time.

It's not everyday one gets chosen to be ambassadors for the school and go to other parts of the world. Though from Arthur's past experiences, whenever such opportunities came...it never ended well. There was always some kind of conflict...some kind of turmoil. But that was life, and that was to be expected. Suffice to say when in the letter, it said the tasks would be dangerous Arthur was in a way relieved. Not that he was a crazy sadist or anything, but the fact the danger was brought to light up front. In other words, it wasn't sugar coated and thrust under the rug...

In any event, Arthur had never been to any of the countries on the African continent so this would be a new one for him. Vaccinations weren't a problem thankfully, but that still left packing. Suffice to say he through anything and everything into a big backpack: Clothes, sunscreen, water bottles, spam and other non perishable canned foods, his gun, his sword, his shield, and some thumb tacks. The trip said to prepare properly, and so he did. He prepared for hunger....and crazy attackers hence the weapons.

With all of that out of the way now it was just a matter of the plane ride. The trip would be long, but he wouldn't be alone as he would have traveling companions in Morton, Evy, and Vahn. He only really knew two out of the three, but he was sure this trip would require everyone to get to know each other really well. In any event, Arthur slept for as long as he could. He wanted to be rested and ready; more so with an at ease mind than anything else. Once the plane landed, he was awake and it was time to board the train. Sitting and mulling over thoughts in his head, he stared blankly out the window...

Thirteen hours on a plane, plus a bus drive from the plane to a train, where they would board an overnight train to Abu Simpel. Afterward, a second bus would would take them to there destination to where they would meet up with Falque LeFer with a humanitarian mission in North East Africa never the Sudanese and Egyptian border. Also, it was dangerous, tasking on the body, and required proper sun protection, as well as being up to date on vaccinations, and bringing your own everything, from camping supplies to rations.

Oh, and two forms of identifacation.

Vahn just had one question for himself, though. Why the hell did he agree to this? Was it that he wanted to help people? Would it be the fact that it would get him out of the campus for a little bit? Would he find something out in the middle of nowhere? Why? It was the question on his mind for the whole plane trip, until he passed out. Planes always made him tired for some reason. He woke up on landing in Cairo. He knew all three of the other people, and he wondered why they had come along. Was it to help Falque? Or one of the reasons that he himself was trying to find?

With his Elemental Cloth and his Coat of Holding, Vahn thought more people would look at him, being six three and what appeared to be dressed for winter. With his hooded trench coat and his hair tied back under it, along with his vest and his pants with his ATRF, Vahn had his Bag of Holding on his lap. He looked over to Evy. How was she still awake? Looking over to Morton, then to Cunningham, before deciding to keep to himself for a moment, thinking and recollecting upon his own thoughts running through his head.

Was he scared? No, that wasn't it. Vahn couldn't be scared. He had faced down death, demons, and dragons without so much as a second thought, but now, with the time to think about these thoughts, it was starting to build up the anticipation. Vahn boarded the train with a hand in his pocket, over his sword handle just in case, and the other on his Bag of Holding. Maybe he was scared? No. He was nervous.

Yeah.

Nervous.

The bus would finally come to a stop. Just where they happened to be was a bit of a…mystery, for the most part. There were mountains for a good part of the view, nothing spectacular, but they were sufficiently noticeable when everything else was a flat desert wasteland. They were just about all that was visible when one was not paying a little closer attention to the details of their new world, for the bus certainly did not stop in the middle of nowhere. To the left of the bus and maybe a hundred metres away were several small homes of thatch, with the occasional mud brick house. There were also a few tents, and a single building of red brick that was easily the most viewable of any of the places. The rest of the establishments had a tendency to blend in the beige dusted background.

The sun was low in the sky, nearly readying itself to set for dusk. The day, more like days, had been long for them, with some not even resting for much of the entire duration. Speaking of which, Evy would find herself woken up by the bus driver, and anyone else who tried to sleep through the arrival. A few of the villagers had stepped out of their homes to greet them, looking at the bus and waiting. The people here did not seem entirely Arab in ethnicity, unlike the majority of Egypt. Those with a keen eye for such demographics would perhaps label them as Beja.

Once the group was off the bus, the small crowd of people had approached them. They did not speak directly to any of the students, but their curious eyes wandered over their clothes, their bags, and whatever else. Arthur’s strange hair colour was of particular attention for a short while, at least until one finally broke through the crowd to address them more personally. He was much like any other villager, wearing loose cloths and his head wrapped against the sun, yet an amulet around his neck and a walking stick with a gold ball adorned with small gemstones suggested a little more about the man. His dark eyes and skin contrasted handsomely with his thick silver beard, and a clever grin on his face showed a strange mixture of compassion, thanks, but also curiosity and possibly suspicion.

“So, you are Dr. LeFer’s…assistants, we’ll say?” His smile evaporated with the placement of his hand, wiping his face as he turned his attention specifically to Evy for a brief instant. “Follow me, please.” With that, the man turned around and the other whispering villagers had broken off back to their own business. An odd sort of welcome, though given the possible situation and urgency of Falque’s request, perhaps they should have expected even less.

The elder villager’s own journey had finally stopped, his slow pace hardly noticeable against the stillness until maybe a few steps more by the others. His cane now pointed towards a large grey tent, a giant red cross symbol hastily painted on the side. A medic’s tent, it seemed. The opening to the inside was narrow, the covers left closed for the most part. Yet some light was shining inside, and those who peaked inside would see several white cots. About half of them, maybe a little more, were occupied by people, mostly men. They did not groan or make much sounds, though on occasion one would sigh from discomfort or maybe pain. It was hard to see what was ailing them, as only their silhouettes were visible beyond perhaps their unsurprisingly dark skin.

But there was indeed one man inside who was definitely not from around there. One man who stood and walked between the cots, his yellow cloak still in the dead air. Panting noises, heavy breathing came from the hood of the creature, and the clothes on his back seemed…larger than usual. Falque seemed…smaller, in some ways. His neck and back were slightly hunched over, his steps wavered from time to time between bed visits, and his movements were sluggish. He held a large notepad in his arm, scribbling down notes with his other hand as he surveyed each patient. He did not pay attention to the people outside, not that he could really see them in the first place.

“I’m sure he would be delighted to see you all.” The old man looked between them all again, his smile fading a little. Something seemed off about it all to him, like he was unsure of himself. In any case, the elder turned his mouth back towards the tent entrance and called inside. “Dr. LeFer! You have visitors!” His voice was deep and jubilant, almost a laugh despite no joke. It seemed the world was one great festival to him.

Falque’s attention was now outside. Carefully he set down what he had, then replaced his gloves. He’d have washed his hands as well, were it not for the limited amount of water around. At least, not until the bus could bring the supplementary tanks to the reservoir. When he finally made it out of the tent, he looked at the elder first, then scanned his eyes to the group beside him. His already sunken shoulders sunk. He seemed, in one swift blow, utterly defeated.

“What…why did they send students? What are…”

His hand engulfed his face, exhaustion and frustration seeping out of his eyes and mouth. He exhaled, sighing in distraught worry. Whatever it was, Falque was not too happy to see them all.

Evy squirmed and mumbled sleepily when the bus driver tried to wake her, sleepy eyes slowly blinking open. She rubbed the little bit of crust from their corners, and sat up, whimpering once. Her neck hurt from being at a weird angle and she tilted it from side to side, rubbing it with one hand and trying to stretch it out. It worked, sort of.

There was something wet on her face, and Evy rubbed it, only to realize it was drool. She squeaked and blushed, hastily lowering her hand, then yawned tiredly. Well, they were there already. There was no more time to be tired – only brave! Evy grabbed her Bag of Holding from above the seat, pulling it onto her back, and glanced at the others, swallowing hard. She didn’t know what to say to them, a new feeling for Evy. She hoped maybe she could get a hug from Vahn as well as Falque, since he gave good hugs too, and she thought maybe it’d make her feel better. But this wasn’t the time for hugs! They had to get to Falque. Then, Evy hoped, there’d be plenty of time for hugging.

Evy made her way off the bus, curiously, smiling at the crowd of people that had approached her. Okay, so she was scared, but that didn’t mean she needed to be rude! There was rarely any excuse for being rude. With that she felt a pang of guilt at how she hadn’t talked much to Vahn and Morton and Arthur on the bus and resolved to make it up to them. Maybe they’d like a juice box?

But this was a new day! Sort of. Well, it was afternoonish but it was sort of a new day because she’d just woken up, so Evy decided it was time for a fresh start. Her smile widened close to its customary beam, and she greeted the crowd politely in fluent Arabic, hoping they’d understand her. If not, she figured, she had that new PLEASED thing that was supposed to help. Evy was fiddling with her PLEASED when the new man came up. She turned and looked at him, her eyes wide.

He asked if they were Falque’s assistants, and Evy scratched her head. “I guess so,” she glanced at the others for confirmation, then quickly followed after the elderly man. “Thank you very much for meeting us!” She chirped, trying very, very hard to stay cheerful. They made it into the tent, and Evy peered inside with wide eyes, glancing at the white beds and the people. Her face lit up when she saw the yellow cloak, until she realized how bad Falque looked.

She squirmed in anticipation; a hug would still help, she was sure! Evy was waiting, coiled like a little spring ready to hug, tensed, ready, like a cat about to pounce – only the look on Falque’s face when he saw her deflated her so thoroughly she couldn’t bring herself to rush at him. She couldn’t keep up the smile anymore, letting it slide off her face slowly as her lower lip quivered.

But Evy’s mission wasn’t aborted yet. “W-we came to help! I got,” she glanced at the others for confirmation. “I got a letter saying you needed help…” Evy stepped forward, slowly, approaching Falque, then when she was closer lunged to hug him.

CHOCOLATE. THE LORD OF ALL FOODS.
Well, there was a whole lot of desert. Morton had to honestly ask himself-what had he expected, beautiful rainforests and large, vast grasslands? A little bit, a little bit, yes. Morton squinted as he stepped off of the bus, the evening sun hitting his eyes. They had made it-to the middle of Africa, almost nowhere. The only backdrop against the mountains and desert were a few houses, and a lot of them blended in with the beige color of the desert anyhow. A group of what Morton assumed were locals approached them and just kind of stared at them, like they were some foreign, new animal they had never seen.

Morton shifted awkwardly, wanting to avoid their gazes. Soon enough, a man approached them, wearing an amulet and sporting a lovely golden ball on a stick. He spoke English, and Morton smiled softly when he heard the words “Dr. Lefer,” It was just a little odd-it made sense, of course, but Morton had never heard someone actually say it before. They followed the man, soon approaching a tent with a hastily marked red cross on the side. Morton managed to sneak a peek inside the tent, and honestly, he had been expecting drama in that tent, but all he got was half a medic’s tent full of sick, wounded, or faking people.

Actually, it was probably better that way. Morton was a little squeamish.

The elder called into the tent for Falque, and then a moment later, he was there. Morton wouldn’t say he looked rough, but he definitely looked tired. And it only got worse, because their presence seemed to upset him. Once he started facepalming, Morton knew that things did not go the way that Falque wanted them to go.

Evy went in quickly, for the hug, unsure of the origin of Falque’s distress. Morton wanted to say something, but remained quiet for a moment, and kept his eyes on Falque. He really did look tired. Slow, and…maybe a little older. Not for the better.

“Things…um…b-b-been rough for you, Falque?” He managed to say, concern obvious in his voice.

And with that, the bus ride had come to a finish. Now the real work would begin, Arthur figured. Stepping off the bus wearing his ATRF's, his eyes couldn't help but scan the area surrounding. Desert...just a lot of...desert. Though it wasn't a complete barren abyss for miles, as there were mountains as well. A few more minutes of analysis and housing would come into view. Though they weren't the most up to date in regards to the materials they were built, for whoever resided in them...it was home.

Sighing, Arthur firmly reminded himself that this part of the world was different from others. He'd do well to remember that. Before long the group was surrounded by the locals, met with all kinds of looks and stares. Arthur couldn't help but feel a few extra gazes set on him...more specifically his hair. Weaving through a few silver locks, Arthur remembered that he wasn't exactly blonde anymore...and that he was in an area where this wasn't looked upon as normal. It would probably just be easier to dye the stupid tuft of hair he grumbled mentally to himself.

Then one particular member of the group had stepped forward, clearly noting that they had arrived for Falque. Or Dr. LeFer as they called him. Following the man's lead, Arthur passed through the tent making note of the beds and the various people within. And then there was the man of the hour, the good doctor himself hard at work. Though by the sound of his voice, he didn't seem ecstatic that the school had send students to assist him.

"Were you expecting help more in the form of faculty?", he mused with a snicker.

The bus finally came to a stop as the Eloc stirred, looking around. Had he fallen asleep? For all intensive purposes, yes. Yes Vahn had fallen asleep, and now, as he looked around, he wondered if this was the right place. It was a flat wasteland, in Vahn's opinion. People shouldn't be living here, though, at the end of the day, people did live here, and Vahn, along with Evy, Hammy and Morty, were here to help these people, and help Falque help these people.

Vahn took notice to the left of the bus, were there were smaller tents and houses set up, and a single brick building that was red, standing out amongst the rest. Everything else? Well, it was camouflaged in it's own landscape. While the sun was low in the sky, Vahn still lifted his hood to cover his head from it. He came off the bus, looking at the people that had gathered around them, trying to figure out where they were, but ultimately failing. They seemed to be looking over everyone as Vahn pulled his backpack further onto his shoulder. One man stood out, who eventually spoke to them with his dark skin and bright colored silver beard, complete with a grin that Vahn took a moment to read.

He spoke as Vahn nodded, following the man with the group that he had come with. His cane pointed toward a tent, Vahn looking it over as a Medic's Tent. At least what Vahn imagined as a Medic Tent. He looked through, seeing white cots, half, give or take, taken by people, though Vahn himself couldn't tell what gender. Though the narrow opening, though, Vahn took note what who he assumed to be Falque. It was the yellow cloak that gave it away, and the fact that Vahn only know of Falque wearing yellow. The elder spoke again as his smile faded a little, and then, Falque's attention turned to them. He replaced his gloves, and then he looked to the elder, and then to the group as Vahn watched Falque's shoulders sink in defeat.

"Nice to see you, too," Vahn told Falque as Evy glanced up at him, nodding to her look, before she continued talking, lunging forward to hug Falque as Vahn watched with a careful eye as to how Falque would react. He was a little protective of Evy, mainly, considering all that they had gone through. Mainly all of the stuff involving Alan. Vahn sure as hell wasn't about to let anything happen to her now.

It always seemed that no matter the situation, Evy would always try to solve it with hugs. What made it most curious, however, was how it tend to work. "...They gave you letters...?" Falque was trying to make sense of scenario when he felt a firm grip around his waist, and Evy below him just barely reaching above his chest. He sighed, returning her hug in sombre motion, and patting her gently on the back.

"...I was." His tone was as bitter as it was defeated towards Arthur. No doubt he found himself a little disappointed when instead of a teacher, or some powerful magic user, he wound up with this gent. A cold move, in some respects. Then again, Falque was in a desert...perhaps something cold was just what he needed right now.

"You could say that..." Falque replied quickly and vaguely to Morton. He was still holding on to Evy, trying to unshoulder his burdens, using her to prop himself against his hardships. "Sorry. It's been...very rough, these past days. Having another thing go awry is not what I was hoping for."

Falque looked towards the sun now, then checked the time on his NICAM. It was...damnit. Not now... "We have to go. Menzin, could you please take care of their belongings?"

Menzin, the elder, squinted a little and wrinkled his nose, "You...cannot be serious. Even her?"

"She offered to help. It's what she's here for."

"She's here to help, not-"

Abruptly, Falque broke from Evy and grabbed hold of the elder, tugging him to the side of the tent and away from the others. They whispered, and though evidently heated given their aggressive expressions, they also made sure the others couldn't overhear. Even the most attentive listener would have grabbed at most snippets of words, hardly offering anything of value in the way of information.

It was a few minutes, but eventually Falque and Menzin returned to the group of four. "I'll see to your belongings. Please take whatever you need out of them before you leave."

"When you're ready, meet me by the truck over there and hop on in. It's going to be a rough ride, beware." With that, Falque moved back into his own tent, rummaging through a few items near a sack before leaving to the vehicle himself.

"I'm sorry to do this to you guys. There's no time to rest however, not yet anyways." It was dark, now. The truck had been driving for nearly two hours by now, and Falque himself had slept for most of it. He had planned to inform them, but well...other needs took over, and now he was fairly well aware that they were about to head in blind on this little adventure. "I imagine it's not just me who's tired. Please, whatever you guys do...don't do something stupid."

"We're almost there. I can see him!"

Even in the darkness, the small silhouette was noticeable against the dark sky. It seemed whatever it was, it looked humanoid at least. Two legs, arms...a long something protruding from one of the arms...sword maybe? In any case, the truck continued nearing closer and closer...

But the silhouette simply continued to grow larger and larger. Slowly, the perspective of what it really was inched more and more while the truck drove. But it was not a matter of fifteen seconds to reach the person out in the distance. It was another fifteen minutes at least. By the time the feet of the creature was in fine view, lumbering each step closer and closer to the truck as its sword raised and poised to strike, it was clear that this thing was no person. It was a giant...nay, not even that.

If the Colossus of Rhodes could move, it would be only half as tall as what swung its ten-story right at the charging vehicle. The humongous roar of smashing rock and dirt nearly defeaned out the trick engine's rumble, and the 'blade' itself very much blocked out a good deal of the sky from view. Small, human-sized shapes now broke off the blade like chipped bits. Unlike rusted flakes, however, these ones began to move on their own as well, running at a relatively slow pace towards the truck, which now spun around to a quick, abrupt stop.

"This is our stop...Good luck, guys. All we need to do is...buy time. It's all we can do, for now."

With that, Falque jumped off the back of the pickup truck and hurried his way towards the foot of the titan. A massive hand now swung its way down near Falque, but just barely missed despite its deceptively quick speed. Between the colossus and the armed shadows charging towards them...they would have their hands understandably full.

Evy hugged Falque tightly, then felt his arms wrap back around her. A smile lit up her face, and she snuggled closer to him, squeezing him as tightly as he was hugging her. He’d never hugged her quite like this before. Evy noticed these things because hugs were very important, and Falque was a very good hugger, but this hug felt kinda different and she wanted to help him as much as possible, so she wanted it to be her very best hug.

When he pulled away Evy stumbled a little. She blinked, confusedly, turning and looking at Vahn again with wide eyes. She missed Falque’s hug right away, scuffing one foot sadly against the ground. Suddenly Falque came back, but then he left right away again. Evy wasn’t sure what to take from her stuff! It all depended on what they were doing. If they had to go fight then she needed her staff. If they had to go have a picnic or meet new people than she needed her juice boxes or maybe a soccer ball because soccer was a great way to meet new people.

In the end, she decided to take her staff, a juice box and a granola bar, just in case it was a picnic. She climbed into the truck, and ended up falling asleep just after Falque, snuggled into the folds of his cloak (and drooling on it). Not even the bumpy ride had disturbed her, but she squirmed sleepily awake when he woke up. She mumbled in agreement with what Falque had said, rubbing her eyes.

Over the next fifteen minutes, as she stared at the silhouette, she felt more and more awake. Her hands were tight on her staff, tight and pale from the intensity of her grip, and her eyes got wider and wider the closer they got, the bigger it looked. The truck stopped, and Evy couldn’t help the whimper that crossed her lips. Falque wished them good luck, then he was gone, charging out of the truck.

Evy glanced at the others, one by one, watching them go. "Evy, stay in the truck," Vahn said firmly as he leapt out.

Evy whimpered again, clutching her staff. She felt so scared; the fear was really, really awful, like a tightness in her chest and a queasiness in her tummy, holding her still but for the shaking. She didn’t know what this thing was but Falque seemed scared of it and that scared Evy more than almost anything ever even being kidnapped. She felt tears in her eyes, hot; she managed to blink them away, only barely.

She hiccuped, weakly; the shadows were charging at her friends, along with the huge monster thing. Evy didn’t know what to do; she didn’t know how she could help or fight but she was so very scared. The shaking was more intense now. Staying in the truck sounded really really good and Evy nearly did, nearly listened to Vahn and the fear clenching her tight.

But she’d come to help Falque. She wanted to help Falque. That’s why she was here and even though hugs were good, hugs were amazing, right now hugs weren’t enough. Right now she needed to do more than hug Falque. She needed to help him fight. The thought was enough to propel her forward – and Evy half-lunged, half-stumbled out of the truck. She spun her staff, clumsily at first, but the motion was practiced enough that her body took over, athleticism replacing thought, hours of practicing filling in where fear had made her still as she charged at the first of the armed shadows.

"Shit, well uh...", Arthur stammered before rummaging through his belongings.

From the sound of the word beware, whatever it was they were going to be headed toward probably wasn't going to be the most pleasant of things it seemed. Switching to his ATRF's, Arthur also made sure to equip himself with his arms as well (one daito, one beretta, and his hepatizon shield). Beyond that he was as equipped as he thought he could be, leaving the rest of his items with Menzin.

Sitting in the truck, Arthur wasn't exactly sure what they were driving towards. It had been some time now that they had been driving, given the sky was dark. Like Falque had mentioned, Arthur was tired if only but to an extent. While stupid wasn't something he planned on doing, he was more concerned with hindering the others in whatever it was that needed to be done.

And then it became clear, a silhouette in the distance. The closer the truck got to it, the bigger it appeared. Before long the true size of the colossus was revealed, a behemoth towering over them like no other. Somewhat humanoid, it had a set of arms and legs and then it had something else. Whatever it was, it was hard to discern and seemed to release it's own parasites down into the sands before the group. And just like that it had begun, as Falque jumped off of the truck and charged in. A nervous lump in his throat, Arthur swallowed hard the fear setting in his now very awake body. Jumping off the truck, Arthur could feel the sweat in his palms as he stared down what was making it's way closer to them. Clenching his fists, he too charged in with his shield arm at the ready to guard him against the untold dangers approaching.

"They gave us letters," Vahn repeated as he nodded in response to Falque's question. He watched Falque with his orange eyes of flames as he returned the hug before apologizing. "It's fine. I don't understand, but just from the looks of it? I-" then Falque interrupted them. It was time to go. "Wait. Go?" the Eloc asked. "We're here, aren't we?" Vahn asked, blinking as he lead the elder, Menzin, in an argument, though Vahn couldn't read the lips. He sighed, looking at the others as Falque came back with Menzin, who was going to take their belongings.

"Thank you," Vahn spoke, setting his bags down, already having everything he would need, at least he thought, in his Coat of Holding. Vahn climbed into the back of the truck as he watched Evy fall asleep, curled up with Falque's cloak, though Vahn couldn't fall asleep on the bumpy ride. He was too anxious wondering what they were driving to in the distance, and Vahn spoke to whoever was awake.

"What do you think it is?" Vahn asked aloud.

Two hours passed, and Vahn passed the time somehow. Then, when Falque awoke, he warned them not to do something stupid. He blinked. "What do you mean?" Vahn asked. "We are in the middle of nowhere in the back of a truck." Apparently, Vahn had spoke too soon. Looking out to the darkness after the driver spoke up, Vahn blinked, rubbed his eyes, and then got a chill down his spine. One of fear, intensity, and the oncoming adrenaline as it was swinging something down upon them before they knew it. It had only gotten bigger and bigger as Vahn was deafened for a moment, just from the near miss that the truck had taken. Vahn noticed, looking at the "sword" from the back of the truck, that humanoid figures were chipping away like seeds on a plant, dropping to the ground to come to life as Falque wished them luck. Falque was off, jumping from the truck.

"Evy," Vahn spoke, probably the most serious he had ever been with her. "Stay in the truck," he said, hopping over the side as he drew out his blade, his Hijensuku. The black blade glistened in what little light wasn't blocked by the shadow of the colossus they were now standing under. Vahn followed Falque, avoiding the hand by jumping back. It was fast for being that big. Vahn looked ahead as he held out Hijensuku. "Ignite!" Vahn called out as his blade engulfed itself in light as he ran forward, ready to clash with the shadows, but no doubt paying attention to the titan as well.

The massive hand had missed Falque, but the boy himself was quick to react. A long tendril and wrapped itself around the wrist of the hand, and as the colossus raised its hand, it would find Falque LeFer nearly dangling from the side of it. Already, the albino was gripping onto the back of its fist, climbing up the arm as quickly as possible. In the meantime, it appeared the monster had stuck its blade too deep into the ground. Unable to pull it out in time, it released its grip on the weapon and turned its attention to Falque, slapping its sword hand down at Falque in attempt to crush him.

The beast, unsure whether it killed Falque, turned its attention to Cunningham, noticing the boy charge towards it. The golem launched one foot out and smashed it down to try and stomp on Arthur with several tons of force. It was quick, but still outmaneouvrable. Then again...did the giant really have to step on Arthur to make him feel the effect of the stomp?

There were two smaller figures, human in size, that had broken from the giant's sword. Both, at a closer look, appeared to be made of bone as well, and each carried old and apparently rusted weapons, both of them spears. They each picked either Vahn or Evy to chase down, Arthur and Morton currently too far away and Falque completely out of sight and range. The one engaging Evy kept its spear upright and in front, ready to use it to block Evy's own attacks with the staff...at least that's what it prepared to do. The other, facing a more imposing Vahn, had readied to stand its ground, pointing its long spear directly at Vahn to try and force him to move to the side. Once he redirected himself, the skeleton would move to the side and avoid the attack. Or at least try to. Ancient warriors were not used to fighting Evos.

The titan's foot came crashing down, and even if it didn't hit Arthur, he would very possibly, were he not careful, feel its shockwave. The ground around the colossus rumbled from the impact, and though the skeletons almost unnaturally managed to stay upright, the earth shifted underneath the students feet, threatening to tip them off balance. Even the truck in the distance was not immune, losing control briefly and very nearly tipping over. With that, the vehicle started to drive away, not interested in crashing and leaving the whole group stranded afterwards.

When he had charged in, Arthur did not think he would garner the giant's ire. At least not so soon anyways. Though he knew full well...things could probably be worse then they were. Spotlight on him, Arthur could see the behemoth raise it's foot and in one fluid motion attempt to make him as flat as a pancake. The closer the foot came, the bigger the shadow came over his body. He needed to act, he needed to move....NOW!

Not wasting time, Arthur was quick to draw on the power of Galleon dwelling inside his body. The sudden surge was a bit exhilarating to be honest when in tandem from the adrenaline caused by the fact he could very well be squished. Pushing his legs hard now, the Evo made a sharp left and booked it as fast as he could. Rather then go forward and avoid the crushing stomp, he wanted to avoid it and be at the creature's side. Eventually he could maybe work his way out of the thing's sights and get all the way around or something. He didn't exactly have much of a game plan really, and for all he knew he may have to help the others with the things coming from the sword and leave Falque to tackle the big guy.

However escaping the stomp was only the first of many hurdles. Something that size coming down with enough force to kill, probably was going to have some secondary effect. As much as Arthur would have hoped that it were not the case...it unfortunately was. Turning his head back, he saw the foot come closer and closer to the earth. Swallowing hard, the teen jumped as high as his body was willing to go at this stage. If he could stay in the air long enough, he could at least avoid the brunt of the shock wave and take whatever was left by the time he landed...

Evy wanted to watch the fight going on with the really big thing. She could see Falque’s yellow cloak moving against the creature. Arthur was running towards it as well; they were so brave! It filled Evy with courage, even though she was really scared at the same time, really, really scared. But, if Falque could be brave, then Evy could too! Actually she wished she could climb with him; except for the part where it was totally terrifying it looked kinda fun.

Except Evy didn’t have time to be watching Falque! She spun back to the skeleton approaching her, its spear in front of it. Her eyes shot to the tip of the rusty spear, then back to the skeleton’s bones. She swallowed, hard. How did one fight a skeleton? She couldn’t hit it or anything, could she? Maybe she could hit it hard enough to make its bones come apart or make it drop the spear!

Evy tightened her grip, still spinning her staff, and charged forward just as the ground rumbled. It felt like the whole entire earth was shifting beneath her! Her charge forward hadn’t been well-timed; her foot caught on the dirt and she was flung even faster towards the ground, the momentum of her staff lost. Her reactions took over where her plan had failed; Evy rolled, shooting up not to her feet but to a low crouch; the motion had brought her close to the skeleton, and she swept her foot out and around, circling, the staff held defensively to keep the spear away from her.

While Cunningham and Falque were doing whatever they could against the massive Titan that stood over them, Vahn and Evy, running forward, toward the sword that was now stuck in the ground, were approached by two smaller beasts made of bone and human in size, through both spears they carried were old and rusty. Evy caught up to Vahn, as Vahn turned to her.

"Didn't I tell you to-" was all Vahn got out before his tone changed. "Look out!" the Anekian said before she spun back to the skeleton before her. Vahn had turned, too, as the skeleton stood it's ground, which made Vahn smirk. Vahn would have smirked, actually, if he wasn't so damn worried about everyone else. All this time, all of this stuff happening, and the Eloc had kind of forgotten about where Morty was. Was he even alive anymore? Vahn wouldn't have time to think of Morty, though, as the titan's foot smashed unto the ground, the shock-wave sprawling out around the entire area, even back toward the truck, as the Eloc grunted, grabbing onto the ground to stay standing. Once he could move, the massive Anekian burst toward the skeleton once more. The skeleton had managed to stay upright, and stood ready for Vahn, though the Eloc still ran forward, even with the spear aimed at him.

He didn't do what the skeleton was thinking, if the skeleton could even think. In fact, by letting Vahn get this close, he had already let the Eloc in too close, as the tip of the spear was met with his own weapon. Following the weapon down, Vahn ran, slashing at the skeleton's mid-section, the ignited blade swinging through the night around them, as Vahn spun back around to rush over to help Evy with her skeleton, if she needed it.

The monstrous titan, ignoring the current state of its foes, dragged its massive hands towards the hilt of its grounded blade. Pulling with the force of both arms, the sword was finally dislodged and was ready to swing down once more. At least, when the creature managed to regain its balance. It stepped back once, then twice, not like the heavy stomps that shook the Earth, but there nonetheless a rumble to be felt as it moved. It was a fair distance from its small allies and foes now, too far for a swing of its blade, though that was not the main concern for the others.

The skeleton warrior was far from familiar in dealing with superpowered foes. It had yet to face off against a gun, even. In any case, the creature was not ready for the sheer force of weight that parried its spear harmlessly away from Vahn, and though the undead were never surprised, once could imagine the monster went through the motions of confusion as the hot blade carved through what was left of its abdomen. The fire began to spread along the dry and putrid bones, engulfing the creature in flames.

Evy was not so lucky.

That massive colossus drove its blade into the ground, nearly 50 metres from her. It was not close enough to harm anyone except maybe Falque. The sword fell into the earth, the dry ground crumbling away from it as though it feared the very darkness that wove such necrotic magic. Neatly, cleanly, the blade sunk into the right to its hilt, and a pulse of silence washed over the entire battlefield. No sound of thunderous footsteps, no cackling of burning fires, no shuffling of diseased corpses. Only the sound of death itself.

And just then, something would grab Evy's leg.

A putrid hand had its loathesome grip wrapped around her stopped leg, her sweep cut disappointingly short. It would have been easy to struggle away from that single grip...were it the only hand that grabbed her. Again, and again, rotting claws drove from the Earth, from the depths of Hell itself, and grabbed at anything they could on Evy. They pulled her to the ground, forced her arms away from defending her, and even if she could struggle, these bones did not feel pain or discomfort. They would only let go when destroyed. This was the nightmare of Bone Valley.

The skeleton she had meant to throw off-guard now used the opportunity. Spear pointed towards Evy, it lunged the rusted blade towards her heart, intent on finishing her in one sickening thrust.

In the meanwhile, the Titan raised what was left of its blade from the earth. Nothing remained but the hilt, at least at first. The roar of fierce winds whipped around their ears, and the fierce winds itself whipped around the titan's empty blade. Quickly, the storms of dust folded into a new blade for the titan, not of bone but the rotting earth itself. With a new weapon in hand, the monster took its first step towards its victims.

It was not the only creature, either. Vahn's deadly strike was not so effective as he would perhaps be led to believe. The engulfed and frenzied skeleton soldier charged its way towards Evy, where it would likely meet Vahn as well, and all around it the fires were sinking underneath its putrid bones, the horrific smell clinging to the air as gradually its body bloated up like a maggot-infested corpse.

Falque’s screams of warning would not be heard.

The blade carved through the undead like a hot knife through cold butter as Vahn would wind up on the other side of the creature. The Titan was backing up, rumbling away into the background, if it could be called that, for now. Whereas Vahn had amassed a lifetime of battlefield experience, both in the Bushido Chambers and in real life with real blood and bone on the line, Evy was not so lucky.

The colossus drove it's blade into the ground as Vahn watched it for a moment. He had never seen anything like it. It was as if it had it took no effort to pierce the ground beneath itself. After that, everything was silent.

Then, there was a scream. Vahn heard it no more than twenty feet behind him. He looked over his shoulder as the claws ripped out of the ground, grabbing Evy where ever they could as Vahn instinctively ran toward her. He sprinted, the sword waving behind him as the skeleton that Evy had been fighting was plowed to the side as Vahn shouldered it away as wind kicked up. Vahn didn't pay attention to it, but instead, started hacking at the arms that came out for Evy. When one grabbed at him, he kicked it, reaching in for Evy as he yanked her upward, throwing her away from the area as he turned around, the bloated corpse dashing at him. He couldn't move, or evade in time, so Vahn did what came naturally to an Anekian.

Throwing out his hand, Vahn shot out an energy blast. Two. Three. All aimed at the corpse, before yanking himself out of the ground and picking up Evy, running away from the sprouting hands, if he could.

Evy nearly fell over when something interrupted her sweep; she screamed when she realized that a hand had wrapped around her leg, then screamed again, her staff tumbling uselessly out of her hands and rolling along the ground. They pulled her down and she tried to struggle, tried to thrash, tried to kick them or step or them or do anything but she couldn’t.

“Help!” Evy screamed, managing to half-sit up for a few seconds, a break from the near-constant earlier nonsensical screaming. It was all she could manage; another hand shot out and pulled her back down, gripping her shirt. She screamed again, her throat burning, tears leaking out of the corner of her eyes.

She wasn’t so still for long. The first round of vibration shot through her body, weakly at first, then as intense as she could make it, her whole body vibrating at its full force as she kept trying to thrash and struggle. She felt another hand close around her – this one less skeletal – and felt something rip her from the grasp of the skeletons. They didn’t let go easily and her whole body hurt, bruises left on her skin where they’d grabbed her but Vahn – she could see it was Vahn – tossed her away and Evy rolled, standing shakily, body still faintly humming with the buzz of her vibration.

Blood dripped from her nose, tears from her eyes, and she screamed again, tearing at her throat, as another hand burst from the ground. She stomped on it, as hard as she could, but another was already sprouting behind her. She stomped on it too but there were more, there were too many, and she didn’t know what to do.

Vahn saved her again – she wrapped her arms around his neck as he lifted her, securing her legs around his waist as well, not wanting to possibly fall off, to be stuck again. She was crying harder now; she didn’t know what else to do. "T-thank you," she hiccuped. She was tired and scared and she didn’t know how to fight all the scary monsters. They were just a few minutes in and she was already battered, bruised and bleeding. Evy only hoped Falque wasn’t too disappointed by her.

Tumbling to the ground, Arthur was covered in dirt and dust from rolling onto the ground. He really needed to get more acclimated with landing better. Getting up from the ground, he dusted himself off for a moment before moving once again. As Arthur moved, so did the creature however it wasn't like before. Though the Evo could still feel the rumble of the earth with each step it wasn't anything to the effect it was two seconds ago.

In any event, Arthur was beginning to feel as though his decision to tackle the giant was ill thought out. Looking out, he wanted to regroup with Vahn and Evy..even Falque if he could find the guy. Never the less, he wanted to regroup. Running toward where he believed them to be Arthur ran, just as the pulse of silence echoed through the battlefield. Silence...it was an eery sensation. To not even hear the sound of dirt crunching beneath your feet is disturbing. It makes your already active mind think even more, and not positively either. But the silence didn't last long, as the harsh sounds of wind and screams soon pierced his ears. Clutching his sword, Arthur pressed on to get close to the others. Whatever was attacking them, he was bound to encroach upon soon and he had to be ready for when he was attacked.

It was not easy, but Evy was successfully torn from the nettle of diseased limbs. The aggressing skeleton was cleanly thrown aside, at least for now, offering Vahn enough time to pick up Evy and toss her to a safe distance. But the dangers were not far from them. Vahn’s blasts of energy was enough to disable and destroy the monster, but the consequences of its annihilation were immediate an unavoidable. A putrid explosion of sickening wind and puss invaded the air around Vahn, and the sheer force of the burst was enough to send him at least checking his balance. He would have little time to contemplate either, for the other skeleton had returned with its spear, swing it cross-ways to wound Vahn.

The colossus, left undaunted with not even a sign of Falque accosting it, took its second step. Its massive blade raised over its head, and suddenly the earth thundered and shook. The titan was charging at full speed. What seemed like dozens of metres were swallowed up after every lunge the monster took, and it was not long before its sickening blade of rotting earth was very well within range to strike. A howling wind proceeded the beast itself, a dark chill touching their bare skin, and the residue of distant screams haunting their ears.

Fifty metres away. The blade prepared to swing down, and the monster itself to the last step it needed to come near Evy and the others. A green glint of lint in the giant’s eye flickered in front of Evy, like a star in the blanket night sky. Every second that green star came closer to her, along with the monster itself.

Suddenly, one of the titan’s legs gave way. It’s right knee buckled underneath it, and soon enough what would concern the trio was not its massive sword, but its massive body skidding like a runaway train right towards them. The giant drove its sword into the earth to try and brake, its left heel digging in to try and slow down. Finally, its left arm threw out in a desperate attempt to crush Evy or whoever was near her, as well as keep upright.

Once the clouds of dust settled, it would be clear the monster was very near above them, crouched over after nearly falling to its face. A heavy thud could be heard from the back of it, where its right leg dragged. The titan itself seemed to hear it, for in that brief moment it raised itself up to take pressure of the left arm. The arm then swung towards the back of its leg and sure enough it struck something with incredible force. A pained yelp cut the settling silence as a thick black figure was thrown back, its body skidding and rolling against the Earth, bouncing after each impact. With one student out of the way, the titan now struggled upright. Once it was ready, it would deal with the others.

But though there was never a peaceful moment in the battle, this would perhaps be their best time for a sort of respite. The moment of battle would slow, for not only was there one less necrotic warrior, the titan itself was seemingly disabled. Not without a loss on their own side, however. The truck was returning, more than just its headlights searching the ground for where the darkling had fallen. They could easily opt to return to the vehicle and get out of here. Or…they could attempt to learn a little more about fighting the monster. Maybe even boldly attempt to destroy it.

Vahn shot at the monster, causing it to be destroyed, but not before a burst of putrid wind and sickening puss rushed him, causing him to recoil as he coughed from the sheer smell of everything. He looked over his arm to see the skeleton swinging at him already.

Shit.

Vahn was hit as the spear lashed into his side. It was a scrape more than anything, but Vahn caught the spear with one hand, reaching in, and breaking it with his other before knocking the spear-tip into the skeleton's skull of a face, and then shoving it backward. He brushed some of the puss from him as he coughed once more. That's when the ground shook, Vahn turning to see the titan run forward toward them. They just couldn't catch some sort of break, could they? Vahn smiled nervously, not worried about himself, but moreso about Evy than anything else. She shouldn't have been here. The blade prepared to come down, and them, the leg of the colossus gave way, sending it sliding across the ground toward them. Vahn came over, grabbing Evy and moving her straight out of the way of the Titan's left arm, the noise of the collision with the ground deafening the area for a moment as it drug away.

The beast was still above them, though Vahn looked up. The top of the titan was still too far up in the night sky to see much of it, but the legs, now that they were close, seemed just like the skeleton that he had just destroyed. It was bone, some torn fabric. A chunk of flesh here and there, but nothing really more than that. The Titan was crouched over as it raised up a little bit, and then, like a man smacking a fly, a thick black shape was thrown back, skidding across the earth as Vahn turned to the Titan. Would he end up like Falque? It didn't matter. He had to try something. Anything.

"Evy," Vahn called out her name as he seen the truck coming back to look for what Vahn assumed to be Falque. "Head for the truck," he asked of her as he ran at the Titan's foot. He had to know more. What was it made up? Could it even be destroyed? Irregardless, he had to make some sort of distraction so that they could get out of here. Running towards the downed leg of the Titan, it took Vahn a moment, but he seen something as he ran. Something on the ground. He slowed down, and even though there was a massive Titan above him, he noticed a disc. It was just on the ground, but for some reason, it caught Vahn's attention. He looked up at the Titan, and then down to the disc, reaching down to try to pick it up.

Why was this disc just here? It seemed kind of random to the Eloc.

The smell hit Evy’s nose; she’d smelled down dogs and rotted food in the fridge and goats – lots of goats – and zombies but it made her gag, just a little, wrinkling her nose and clapping a hand to her mouth. She squeaked, watching Vahn with wide eyes – but her staff was gone and she was too scared to move, way too scared. She looked up at the noise; she could see the giant, growing larger in her horizon.

Evy’s eyes widened, and she stared at it, amazed by the glint in its eyes. It was big, as big as the sky, and it was getting closer and closer and bigger and bigger; the sky was coming to her and all she could do was stare, watching it bob slightly above her with each lumbering step. She was shaking; her whole body felt so cold and weird, like something was tickling her skin but inside too.

It fell and she screamed; she didn’t even move until she felt Vahn’s hands on her. He threw her and she stumbled, taking a few shaky steps away. She was shaking still, so scared; the yelp from Falque made her eyes widen and the shaking stop. She whimpered, not sure what to do.

Vahn told her to go to the truck and Evy wanted to; she really wanted to, but she couldn’t help staring at the black figure lying on the ground, that had bounced over it. She was trembling, shaking – and then she took off, running her fastest, sprinting and scrambling over the ground, giving the monster a wide berth as she fled towards the figure lying on the ground.

“Falque!” She was shaking again, but she didn’t stop running; she couldn’t stop, not until she knew he was okay. “Falque?”
