“If something goes wrong?” Mr. LeFer’s entire attention was lost in Vera’s words of reason. His eyes hung right in front of hers, his mind turning over every possibility of what he should say to her. Finally, the man raised a single eyebrow, gesturing his apparent confusion. There was no confusion on him, however. Only madness. “Oh course something will go wrong!” His face cracked wide with a wicked smile and a nearly hideous laughter. “This is a lab full of poorly supervised children with deadly compounds! It’s the perfect storm!! Bahahahahaha!”

And in a flash, Papa LeFer was back to ‘normal’, or at least composed. He smiled a little at Vera, rubbing his chin a little before continuing, “But in all seriousness, just keep those goggles on. I’m serious about protection, y’know.” Playfully, Isaac reached out and adjusted Vera’s goggles before looking over at Avery. “Now get to work, girls! Or what counts closest to girls! Science does not wait, it hungers…hungers for more science!”

But Isaac did not have to move far before someone had most readily brought him the first great setup for an explosion. Irvine’s vitriolic tone was lost, left filtered at Isaac’s ears. “Superb! Reminds me of college, and how irresponsible I was back then. Good luck to you, now! I’ve no idea where a wheelbarrow is.” With a wholesome pat of Irvine’s head of hair, Isaac moved along to other, grander things.

“Don’t forget the thing I gave you, Miguel. It is truly a remarkable thing…” Isaac grinned, though his focus was right through Miguel’s head and at his pile of death. Oh yes…that one would be perfect for the job…and what was this? The other man…oh yes, so classical. Gunpowder, and Isaac could tell and smell it from a single glance and/or whiff. Sometimes he could even smell it from a glance, but those were only rare occasions.

Very pleased with his students’ designs, he interrupted them all after several minutes, letting Vera and Avery gather some time to design something horrific of their own. “Alright everyone, to the…hmm…apparently they won’t let me anywhere besides the Bushido Chamber with this. So yeah…I guess we have to go over there.” There was no doubt in anyone who looked at Isaac that the man was upset. It was very visible, and almost…sad in a way.

In any case, with sufficient wheelbarrows acquired and sanity left behind, a massive barren field was now what stood before the students and lecturer. The first of the concoctions was Irvine’s, the boy left a few hundred feet in front of the rest of the kids to prepare his bomb, while the rest of them hid behind everything-proof glass. The sun was high and oppressive that day in the chamber, and Mr. LeFer himself was equally high and…high. Nothing could end well in here.

“Alright, Irvine! Show us some magic!” LeFer chuckled a little as we waited, waited for the fireworks to begin. Everyone’s bomb would go one after another, but there was a strange order to his madness. Miguel was made to go last. “It’s where we save the best, after all, Miguel.” Mr. LeFer smiled wickedly as he explained such to the boy, his hand playing with one of those white cubes he had offered to Miguel.

((OOC: The task is simple. Describe your explosion, and if you haven’t already, what it is and maybe even how it explodes. I’m not really going to award any of you for this task, so don’t try to kill yourselves over causing the most collateral damage. Again, Miguel goes last. If Opp chooses to use the cube, do not describe the explosion. Otherwise, go ahead.))

Connection established, We're reading you, Eastern Front.
“This explains...so much.” Shaking his head, Irvine took a deep breath, and picked up one of the bricks. Sure. He'd have to move most of them by hand but...He could manage that, piling as many as he could manage into his arms, grunting a little as they changed locales. He really should've been wearing gloves. Oh well...Hopefully he didn't sweat. Oh god don't let him sweat right now. Please. Merciful Lord. Oh, and smite the LeFers while you're at it. Amen.

They found the room, and Irvine made no short trip of dropping the load, dumping it out onto the floor before it could react to any moisture on his skin before stacking them into a little box, a nifty little formation. They wanted him to go first? Well, if LeFer wanted to see actual science at work, that was fine. But if he wanted to see Magic...then...

Sometimes the BC was a godsend. Surrounding the box with...a box, cardboard even. It looked like it. It clearly was by the way Irvine formed it around the box. But as soon as it was secure, he said a few words under his breath, focusing. It took a minute of preparation, maybe a few people got bored. But when he was done, the male got up and moved back to the rest of them, glancing at the box eighty meters out. That...should be far enough. Grinning a bit, he glanced over at their 'teacher'.

“Here's your magic. Initiate. Add a little water, and...” Truly, a godsend. A bucket of water appeared out of the air, with enough to soak and douse every brick. When it tipped over, filling the reservoir Irvine had left in the middle? It did just that, the explosion nearly instantaneous as it burst upward, the pure metallic sodium reacting with the water in the most violent manner it could manage, though the explosion was contained, in a sense. It went purely upward, purely safer, from the way the box was positioned around it. A box that Irvine had made solid, bloody, steel. Of course...

...someone would probably write it off as part of the simulation...

...It was somehow comforting to know that despite having no ethical qualms with this little exercise, Mr. LeFer was still in his right mind. It didn't exactly answer Vera's question of what to do should they all find themselves in a blazing, fiery hell.

Still, she couldn't help but grin at their teacher as he adjusted her goggles, smoothing out her hair under the straps needlessly once he was done. Well, he was capable of producing stable wormholes and reanimating extinct species, so she'd trust that he knew what he was doing. And what they were doing. After all, Eric was still alive, and he was raised by this guy.

She went about gingerly gathering materials, recalling from chemistry what was combustible. She didn't have any experience in making bombs, so she just grabbed a couple explosive items and tried to use them as best she could. Worst case scenario, there was a really big boom. Best case scenario, they all canceled each other out somehow. For Mr. LeFer, those priorities would probably be reversed.

The Bushido Chambers made much more sense as a venue for testing this stuff, and Vera happily went with the others, carrying an opaque box with a sliding but currently sealed lid. Irvine went first, and after his experiment finished (with no harm to anyone present, thankfully), Vera opted to go next.

"Might as well get through this..." She placed her box even further out than Irvine had. She took a moment to generate a long wire rope and a...fire hose. The hose appeared with the rest of their little group, while she unlatched the lid, dipped the wire inside, and ran like hell back to the group.

At the safe distance, she generated a spark at the other end of the wire. Smoke quickly began curling up from the box's depths, and a couple large flames soon burst out. It was at that point that Vera employed the fire hose, throwing a torrent of clean water at her device. The magnesium powder keg lit up with a fireball that didn't have much of a shock wave oomph as far as explosives go but was still quite a sight. Of course, then the fire spread to the ground around the box, and the water only made things worse and worse as the bonfire climbed and spread, black smoke curling out in waves.

Vera quickly terminated the blaze, awkwardly and nervously standing there with the fire hose at the ready should remaining sparks get any ideas. Well, that was a little nerve-wrecking. Rather than high marks, she could use some hot cocoa.

“Yes sir!” Avery set off to find a suitable combination of chemicals for explosion-inducing. Something simple and quick. He hadn’t the time for something convoluted and death-causing, not when everyone one else had gotten a head start while he was enjoying himself in his examination.

…Oh? What was in those cylinders?

Perfect. Now, to work. It was a rather simple bomb he would be making, yes, but it was still important to concentr-

Whaaaaaaaat. Bushido Chambers? It… it wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the Bushido Chambers, and indeed they were most amazing, but… Poor man. Avery had no doubt he looked far more disappointed than the man, but nonetheless he rather wanted to go over there and hug the professor. Tightly, at that. But he was busy ensuring nothing blew up. That would have to wait, sadly enough.

Alright! That was a perfectly secured volatile garbage bag, there! Avery ever so cheerily pulled the bag along with him to the Bushido Chambers along with the other students (in a considerably unsafe way, but luck was with him this day).

A gigantic field, was it? Classic. The glass was less so, but it’d be nice to leave having not experienced his flesh being torn into by pieces of exploding object and burning… or elsewise, depending on how it was the explosions were carried out. Provided Master LeFer had made this simulation to not be extremely painful should anything go terribly wrong, it would be a rather jarring experience, and he simply wasn’t willing to risk that.

With his thoughts Avery succeeded in filling the time in which that LeFer-hater used to do… not much of anything, really. Finally the boy returned, saying… something. Avery wasn’t in the mood for listening to people who disapproved of LeFers. He assumed his return meant the bomb was now ready, and so turned to see the water flow, and…

Oooh. Vertical explosion. That had better not have been a result of the simulation, because it was awesome. …Even if it was caused by a dirty LeFer-hater.

The next explosion was decent, although not particularly impressive as explosions go. The fire, however, was magnificent. Also gone, due to fire hose shenanigans. Shame.

Alright, it was his turn! Avery dragged the bag along the ground to a… safe distance? Maybe? Wow, this was one durable and non-static-inducing bag. He’d sort of expected to be dead by now. Anyhow. The bag was probably at least fifty meters away. It should be fine.

Alright. He hadn’t quite the hang of the Bushido Chambers, but he’d heard the whole thing was rather intuitive. In a moment a single match appeared over the bag, barely visible, then fell, eating its way through the plastic.

The explosion lit up the field for only a moment, blasting in all directions, the noise almost deafening, and then only clouds of smoke remained. A very short blast, but a rather satisfying one. His ears were still ringing.

Miguel felt thoroughly uncomfortable with the smile on Mr. LeFer’s face when he suggested Miguel go last. There was a definite clammy feeling in his palms, coupled with the hair on the back of his neck standing up. He very nearly removed the little white ball then and there, uneasily studying the sealed metal shell he’d picked up. Nervously, he wiped his hand on his pants – the last thing he wanted as for it to explode.

Well, explode before it was time.

At least they were at the Bushido Chambers. That was a feeling of nearly equally intense relief. Even if this little white cube somehow exploded him into bits, or did some sort of horrible damage, it’d be gone when he left. He hoped. He hoped, desperately, that it’d be gone when he left. If this guy really could summon a triceratops from… science, maybe he could bypass the laws of the Bushido chamber. He glanced nervously at Délise.

Watching the other explosions didn’t help much. Irvine’s was excellent; Miguel watched his muttering, and figured out rather quickly what he was doing, admiring the spell, impressed at its ability to transform the metal, make it sturdy enough to shoot the explosion upwards. Maybe he could get Irvine to teach him the spell; it looked useful. Vera’s was nice too, a burst of explosion and fire. The crazy little kid made a huge blast, loud enough that Miguel’s ears were ringing.

By the time he had them sorted again, and was breathing normally, it was his turn. Miguel studied the little ball in his hand, then stepped forward, murmuring a few commands to the Bushido Chambers. They were elegant rooms; he enjoyed the manipulation, the straight-forward nature of the commands. Once you learned the language, it was easily bent to his will. A small pillar rose out of the ground, and he set the ball on it, stepping back. Between the class and the pillar, he rose a blast shield, a quite study one, with a small hole in the center aimed towards the pillar.

Miguel pointed – yes, he was showing off a little, he thought, but Délise was there and he rather wanted to do it this way. Sparks gathered around his fingers, slowly, crackling more and more with each passing second. He doubted he needed much time, but he let it build for ten seconds, like a countdown. At ten seconds he released it, the lightning shooting at the metal ball as the shielding shut firmly behind it, sealing them off.

As cruelly insensitive…and vaguely murderous…as Irvine was, Papa LeFer was more than eager to wait for his explosive performance to begin. He rubbed his hands constantly, smiling at the make of this device. Simple, very simple. Yet exceedingly dangerous. Such was the prime formula for the journeyman nutcase. Isaac was curious about the cardboard box though…it was an odd addition for something like this. Oh? What was he doing to it now? Perhaps using some Bushido Chamber command line? Or perhaps some…magic? Very curious. Isaac rubbed his chin in patience, eyeing Délise for some sort of response. She expressed something along the lines of ‘yes, he’s using magic’, though that was perhaps saying a lot for a simple smile and tiny nod.

`As for the explosion itself…it was truly remarkable! The box had somehow stayed together, like it was made of…anything but cardboard! Mr. LeFer grinned wide at the sight of the fireworks, eventually chuckling and clapping his hands over the whole scene. He seemed positively giddy, bouncing on the balls of his feet before turning to Vera. “Alkali Metals! Dangerously volatile, but present everywhere, even in our table salts. The trick is removing them from minerals…”

Next up was Vera herself, whose display caused a widespread fire literally everywhere. Isaac was jumping with joy at the sight of the flames, while Délise was jumping back in fright. At least the other one was loud and booming, but this one was just a raging fire! Her dad seemed beside himself, however, clapping at the spectacle of hellfire pouring from the barrel. “Alkaline Earth metals! Very clever, Vera. Magnesium only reacts to steam, so it was indeed necessary to handle that with some initial flames. It’s a nice tidbit to know in case you’re ever transferring such materials."

But there was more! So much more…so much disaster available at their fingertips! If only they weren’t stuck in the Chambers…then they could feel the adrenaline of fear rush through their veins. It was the pinnacle emotion of science. The understanding of fear, the fear to delve any deeper, but the desire to do so regardless! If one did not experience fear, they did not experience mad science! Avery’s explosion was very much a testament to this, knocking Délise utterly off her feet and terrified for her life from the sonic boom. Isaac however, a veteran of such things, simply and literally danced for joy like the lunatic he was behind the protective wall that somehow managed to stay up.

Yelling at the top of lungs, somewhat confused that maybe he finally went deaf, Papa LeFer helped her daughter up off the ground and started brushing nothing off of her. She was not only a little embarrassed, but also a little uncomfortable with Miguel seeing her like that. Isaac, naturally, didn’t give a damn. Dams were an expensive piece of equipment, after all.

In any case, it was finally Miguel’s turn. Isaac watched him almost hungrily as Miguel placed the white ball near his own explosive. Every time Miguel looked at him, Isaac would seemingly have a rather serene, if not a little giddy, expression. It was only when he was turned away did the guy smirk something deadly mad. He looked very much like he was planning to watch Miguel die. At least, that’s how Délise interpreted his face, whose already fair face went ghostly pale. When Miguel looked at her, she simply bit her lip and looked worriedly at him. It…it was still the Bushido Chambers, right? Then he wouldn’t die…but…

Once Miguel started his lightning spell, Délise was faintly smiling at him, trying to appreciate his little show. Isaac, however, was muttering to himself for no apparent reason. It was not until Miguel was nearly ready to blast away that Mr. LeFer spoke out, “Remember this important detail! Behind every experiment, behind every discovery, no matter the insanity driven behind them, they all started…” he waited until it was too late for Miguel to stop his lightning bolt, “WITH A KERNEL OF TRUTH!!!” With those words, the safety glass vanished. They were all easily in range of the blast.

But the blast itself was not as one would have expected. The bomb did go off, yes, but the flames and shockwave were warped. In an instant, the entire explosion was soaked up by the white ball, rapidly expanding from energy forcibly driven into it. Once it had expanded to the size of a large room, the ball burst with one supersonic ‘POP’. From inside, millions upon millions of tiny white flakes of corn ejected from the ball. Miguel had just popped a popcorn kernel with enough popcorn to feed maybe two armies.

And it went everywhere. There was no escaping the blast as thousands of popcorn kernels buried the group in their lightly buttered form. They did not have any grease, however, so it was still somewhat clean…but it was still popcorn. Isaac was gorging himself on those salted bits while Délise was initially too scared to move, looking about for any sign of Miguel.

“Woo! Dig in, guys! It’s delicious! Hahahahahahaha!” Isaac was practically swimming through the popcorn, even trying out a backstroke while his daughter struggled to the surface after being knocked off her feet from an additional landslide of popcorn. “You’re going *nom* to need all your *nom* strength for…ugh, jeez, this is why I didn’t want to do it in the Chambers. Oh well. You guys’ll do just fine *nom* I bet.”

Miguel’s eyes went wide and his face paled as the lightning released from his finger and Mr. LeFer spoke and all in the same moment the glass was gone. He could literally feel the blood draining from his face, feel the coolness – he looked nearly as pale as Délise, he imagined. He cringed, waiting for the impact, for the explosion, for the horrific pain sure to result for a moment before hopefully, oh how he hoped, the Bushido Chambers would replace it. Would replace him, he thought, staring at the beginning of the boom.

But it never came, and Miguel’s eyes only widened further as the little white ball he’d tucked inside soaked up the energy like a gigantic sponge, expanding smoothly until it burst.

Miguel was closest to the kernels and the shockwave of the burst made him stumble. He stumbled enough that when the wave of popcorn hit it swept him clean off his feet and under, buried beneath a rushing onslaught of movie theater food. He struggled desperately, squirming about beneath the treats, grasping at the floor, grabbing handfuls of the kernels around him, only to each time find himself with nothing to hold as the popcorn swept past. It felt like an hour, although he knew that it was only a few minutes later that the surge seemed to slow, enough that he could find the ground.

Miguel forced himself to his feet; the popcorn was piled high near him, nearly up to his shoulders. It spread outwards from him as he rose, creating a sort of volcano with him at the center. He called a command to the room and it shifted. The popcorn poured away from them, tumbling back slowly across the floor into the sort of pool space he’d made for it, filling that up and at least giving the students room to stand.

Only then did Miguel reach down and grab a handful of the popcorn, enjoying a few bites as he regained his breath and, hopefully at some point, his dignity.

At least Mr. LeFer didn't look displeased with Vera's arsonistic experiment, but she wasn't sure that was a good thing. Getting giddy at the sight of a wild fire was worrying in its own right. At least her part was over, anyway, and she could sit back and watch the rest of the students' explosions. Why didn't that sound very relaxing?

Miguel's was, without a doubt, the most worrying. What was that box doing? Was it getting ready to unleash a second Big Bang into the world? Was it a white hole collapsing onto itself to generate a black hole? Was Mr. LeFer trying to see if he could beat the Chambers' no-death protocols for funsies?

The result of the nerve wrecking, monumental buildup of suspense as Vera awaited her doom was...popcorn. Popcorn burst out into the world like a delicious, nutritious torrent of death. Was it possible to drown in fluffy corn kernels? Luckily not since they didn't pack together well, but it was still difficult to pull herself above the sea of buttery movie treats.

That was, it was difficult until the sea started pouring away from them. What the hell had they done now - pulled the plug out of the earth's drain? The sheer force of millions of popcorn kernels all flowing away at the same time pulled her along with them for a moment. Finally she simply pounced up and over the kernels, awkwardly attempting to pull/swim her way back uphill.

"Can we...please...not do that again," Vera said breathlessly once the receding tide had passed and she had cleared a patch of ground to lay down on. With a sigh, she blindly grabbed a handful of popcorn from beside her and joined in the munching fest.

From their reactions to his little show, Avery decided he far preferred Délise's father to the girl herself. Well, he'd been thinking by those lines already, but that confirmed it.

Ah, and finally... Miguel's turn. He'd been rather lookig forward to this. Lightning. Interesting. But far more interesting was the expression of their teacher. Why was he so-

Avery only barely registered the fact that Master LeFer had started shouting when the bomb went off. But then the explosion was absorbed, by a rapidly expanding white ball that threatened to cause a far more spectacular explosion than the one that had been taken away: one of popcorn. And lots of it.

Incidentally, Avery had never seen real popcorn before, though he'd read about it. He decided, after almost choking on the wave that went over him, it had quite a pleasant taste. However, he hadn't a clue how he was supposed to get out of it.

Avery attempted to scramble to somewhere he could see something that wasn't white, but failed miserably. Luckily for him the popcorn soon began to drain away, him with it... until he realized he could just stand up.

He did so, not bothering to shake off the kernels that were now resting on his shoulders. And in his hair, actually. Ah, well. He took a handful of the salted treats and popped a few in his mouth, a few of the kernels falling off of him in the process. A bit crunchy, but very delicious indeed.

Irvine never would have taken Vera to be the fiery type, but...Well, that was something, alright. It was almost a little amusing how much some people could rely on the chambers, but safety -was- a prime concern. So he really couldn't blame her...Irvine was just a tad bit more reckless. Maybe it was that whole 'not caring if he died' thing he had going on lately. Either way, the explosions gave a momentary lapse in focus towards his distinct dislike of their teacher.

He was going to have to apologize to Délise soon, though...but...she could wait, couldn't she? Surely she understood some breadth of how the male felt.

Nah, not likely.

It was when Miguel went that the male felt his heart begin to race a little. Whatever that...thing...was, it was something that LeFer had given to him, specifically. So good, or bad, this was...going to do something, and potentially something dangerous. The chambers had the no-kill protocols...but...but it would still hurt, a lot, and some pain was quite hard to forget. So when Miguel began to charge his little lightning trick, Irvine started to tense...What's more, when LeFer tampered with the experiment in a way that...

Wait.

Was that their blast shield gone?

There was hardly time to recognize what happened, and try to hit the floor, before the explosion collapsed in on itself, Irvine kneeling as he was hit in the chest by the flood of...

...popcorn?

It...it was popcorn? Why...how did you...but...that explosion...and...This didn't make sense! Goddamn that...that arrogant...prick...bastard...FREAK OF NATURE! Irvine's blood was running so hot, you might think him Irish as he clenched his fists beneath the small sea of corn, sighing half in defeat, half in realization that...it was best to just...excuse this all away again. Easier not to...wait, was that butter flavored?

You win this time, LeFer.

You win this time.

There was little point in competing when your opposition had clearly won. Legato had brought a bullet to a warhead fight, a simple miscalculation on his part, and it would have been foolish of him to embarrass himself by detonating his shrapnel bomb.

At least he had a chance to gauge the competence of his opposition. They were all rather intelligent in their own rights. He wouldn't be able to get by just doing the bare minimum. More effort would have to be put forth to keep up with the others and hopefully surpass them. And . . . why was the blast shield gone?

Oh dear serpents Mr. LeFer was mad. Legato pulled his goggles down and braced himself for the impact of another explosion only to be swept over by a wave of something else. Something strangely warm. He cracked open his eyes and looked around at the white stuff flooding the chamber.

What was this stuff? Puffy. White. Soft yet crunch. Was this some kind of food? He looked around and saw the others eating before grabbing a kernel and examining it closer. He tossed the kernel into his mouth and then immediately spat it out. "It's salty! This stuff is awful." He groaned and sat down in the popcorn. At least it was warm...

Excellent! They were all eating right out of the palm of his scientific hand. All except one, it seemed, who decided to be a party pooper and dislike popcorn. Such inanity, really. In any case, with the hoard of popped corn sinking elsewhere, Isaac took the chance to free himself from his burial and move to the edge of the chamber, near the exit door. Vera would get her wish, at least. He was not going to do that again. At least, not today.

“Alright, everyone! It’s time for your next lesson! Human experimentation!” Isaac’s smile was far too large for words such as those. His almost wicked grin let off a sinister aura of knowing evil that could very easily strike terror in those unwary of his antics. At least, that’s what it seemed like. He was just trying to be a nice guy, honest. He just liked his work a little…too much.

“The most important thing about human experimentation is not ethics. It’s about…not getting sued!” Mr. LeFer chuckled, pulling out a small info card and reading it. “I want you all to group yourself into pairs…oh, there’s five of you.” Almost immediately, Isaac’s stare fell on his daughter. A very, very disturbed daughter who rather wished she were anywhere else on the planet but here. “Glad of you to join us, Délise!”

“In any case, the three groups will each experiment on a different topic, and I will be expecting a brief report on your experiment. Remember the basic scientific method, now: I want to see a hypothesis, the method, the observations, and your own conclusion, just like with any other study.” Reading his recipe card again, Isaac rang out, “The three topics are as follows: The Nature of Fear, Drugs and the Human Physiology, and the border between Pain and Pleasure. Please orchestrate amongst yourselves which topic and partner you will choose.”

Grinning a little wider, Isaac continued after a short breath, “Remember, not only is this lesson about the method of experimentation, but also the experimentation itself. If your partner refuses to do something for you, or threatens to call the authorities on you, then it is your job for the sake of science to appease them in any way possible. Remember that, kids!”

Whoever was stuck with Délise would need to be doing some serious appeasing.

“You may use whatever materials you can to carry out your experiments, and I will allot you all a full two hours to conduct your study. There is one stipulation, however: whoever chooses to experiment on the Nature of Fear may not use the Bushido Chambers for aid in their study. Please consult the R&D should you need anything…serious…for your experiments. Just tell them you are part of Dr. LeFer’s class, I think they’ll let you in.” And with a smile and a wave, Isaac stepped out of the room.

“Meet me back at the classroom when you’re done to hand in your report!”

((OOC: Okay, for this, you’ll have a few weeks to run your experiment. There’s no set deadline, but keep in mind that if two of the groups are finished, I will not be very patient with the third. If your partner is proving to be…lacking…in collaboration, then please advise me and I will handle things from there. Other than that, Mr. LeFer has pretty much spelled out your job. Get a partner, pick a topic (make sure you aren’t duplicating topics with another group), and be on your way with SCIENCE.))

((Miguel and Délise, with Pleasure and Pain))

It was true that Miguel was fond of both Irvine and Vera, but the odds of ending up with the snake guy or the weird kid that had been staring at his ball for a really long time was just too great. Miguel made his way across the room to Délise with no hesitation, shooting Irvine something of an apologetic look. He did hope the popcorn grease would come out of his clothes when they left; he swore he'd nearly suffocated to death buried beneath the pile.
"Hey," he smiled at Délise, setting his hand gently on her arm. "You doing all right?" He hesitated, then hugged her, pulling her close against his chest. "Think I can convince you to partner up with me?" He grinned down at her. "I'll owe you one."

Délise saw Miguel start to head over to her. She shot a look near the door, making sure her father already left. She managed a smile for Miguel though. At his first touch, Délise tried to speak out, "You shouldn't-ah!" She giggled nervously, feeling Miguel hug her. She thought about it some more. She really didn't want to be stuck with...a certain few individuals anyway.

She looked up at Miguel and sighed, leaning in, "I shouldn't let you, but alright. You definitely owe me though." She grinned, "So what's the plan?"

_________________

Miguel grinned even more broadly. "How about pleasure and pain?" He asked. Once he was sure Délise didn't mind, he turned to the others. "We'll, uh, take pleasure and pain," he grinned. "... See you all in two hours," he grinned at Délise, and made his way out of the Chamber, figuring she'd follow behind.

There were a few other empty ones nearby, and it was easier enough to grab one, making his way inside. "So, what should we actually do?" Miguel scratched his head. "Maybe... something about... anticipation?" He grinned, teasingly at Délise, and, after a quick glance at the door to make sure her father wasn't watching, crossed the room to wrap his arms around her. "How torturous it can be...?" He leaned in to give her a little kiss.

_________________-

Délise nearly snorted. She expected it, yes, but she didn't really think he'd say it so bodly. Or immediately. Regardless, she could not help but grin in kind to him, and once they made their little scenario public, the two ran off to the nearest empty chamber.

"Anticipation?" Délise looked at Miguel almost quizzically. It sounded a little vague to her, though the look in his face brought out a more pleasant reaction. She didn't resist when he hugged her and pulled her in, only smiling and giggling when she felt his lips. "Mm...you cad." In response, she wrapped her own arms around him, pressing her body and its black leather tighter against him. She spoke coyly, "Best start taking notes, then."

Of course, it couldn't all be fun, could it? "I'm thinking...oh...electrodes? Need something that can do both, after all."

Miguel nodded. "Oh, I'm keeping an excellent mental record," he teased, running his hand over her. "Where did you even get this outfit?" He gave her another kiss, lingering this time. She brought up the actual experiment, and he sighed, playfully. "I suppose..." Reluctantly, he broke away from her, making his way to the console.

It wasn't more than a few minutes before he at least had a basic idea of how to get what they needed from the room. He leaned on the console, studying Délise. "So don't we need an actual, testable hypothesis? Scientific method, and all that?" He grinned again. "I do like my studies to be rigorous..."

_____________

Délise sighed into his kiss, dragging one hand through his hair and pulling Miguel a little more in, "I'll leave that up to your imagination." The truth behind it was likely not something Miguel wanted to picture anyway. Isaac had strange and incomprehensible tastes and interests.

"Hypothesis..." Oh jeez, what kind of hypothesis could there be for this? Well, that one anticipated pleasure moreso than pain? "Not a fair question. I already know what to anticipate." she teased. She nearly snorted again at 'rigorous'. He could be a real dork sometimes...

Miguel grinned, his hand cupping herself, stroking it lightly with his thumb. "When it comes to you, I am nothing if not extremely biased..." he kissed her hand, lightly. His eyes had gone distant though, and there was a look on his face like he was, for at least a brief moment, actually thinking about the question he had posed.

"What about differentiated levels?" He asked, grinning this time with a more scientific excitement. "Think about it - maybe the effects would be different at different levels of pain and pleasure. We could hypothesize a low level and a high level of each - run tests and compare." He tapped a few keys and a white board popped up. He grinned at Délise, pulling away and crossing the room to it, sketching out the four levels.

"For example," he continued, spinning back to her. "I'd say we'd anticipate extreme levels more than low ones." He rumpled his hair. "We'd have to do random shocks... I could set that up easily enough that. And I think we'd anticipate low levels of pleasure more than low levels of pain, but high levels of pain more than anything else, even high levels of pleasure..."

Abruptly he stopped, a sheepish look crossing his face, and he grinned at Délise. "Not that there isn't something to be said for the anticipation of high levels of pleasure," he looked thoroughly embarrassed that he'd lost track of the innuendo, his cheeks actually reddening slightly.

________________________

"How about...a person anticipates pleasure moreso than pain? It's not like it has to be right, anyway. Oh yeah." She walked closer to him, reasting a dainty hand on Miguel's cheek, "Try not to let bias get in the way." She smirked.

Even when he was overtly compromising the integrity of their experiments, he knew how to treat a girl. She smiled at his kiss, sheepishly squirming a little while she waited for his actual answer. To her surprise, he brought out another fine way to treat her. An improvement on the experiement. Délise watched him in satisfied silence, cutting up the experiment in four parts, offering two hypotheses.

And then he had to be a dork again. Délise reddened a little at the sight of him as well. She adored those cute moments of his. So much of the time he was just...all over her, bending her to his own game, she appreciated those times when he brought out a more...sincere side to him. It also meant she could pick up the teasing. She pressed her arms against her chest, accentuating it, "Anticipate all you want, you aren't getting good credit if you don't strap yourself in first."

_________

Miguel grinned, broadly, relieved, and set to work. It wasn't long at all before he'd set up a chair for the experiment, complete with an electrode headset. The console itself with record the data as interpretable graphs and results, and even put them in transportable form onto the flash drive Miguel had inserted into it.

"I think the best order is low pleasure," Miguel couldn't help the cheeky look on his face, "then low pain, then high pain, then high pleasure," the grin widened. "That way we won't end too... upset, I hope. It'll be best to switch back and forth, if you don't mind, so we have a little break between runs. Each will be a set of eight randomly spaced shocks, and the data, as we discussed, will compare the readings before the last four shocks to the experience of the first four." He exhaled, making his way to the chair, and lowering the device onto his head.

"Okay," he sat back, slowly. "Press the button to start it up?"

___________

Délise nodded, taking note of Miguel's reaction to his own words. He had a thing for the pleasure part, that was sure. She grinned, listening to the experiment process and agreeing. Eight random shocks with the first four's intervals compared with the latter. It was easy enough, given they just had to sit in a chair and enjoy the ride. Some rides being more fun than others, of course.

"Alright, here we go." Délise's finger hovered over the button. She looked at Miguel one last time before smiling and pushing down the key. The neural graphs and timers were now underway, but Délise's attention was on Miguel. She wanted to see the reaction on his face, something the machinery wouldn't pick up.

_____________

The first one made Miguel grin, shifting comfortably in his chair, a dreamy pleased sort of grin. He chuckled at the second; that was, he thought, the manly way to put it, although a less charitable phrasing might have described the sound as a giggle. The waves of pleasure were very soothing; pleasurable, but like walking up refreshed after a night of dream-walking, or taking a sip of excellent coffee.

It was nice, yes, but it was a very comfortable sort of pleasure, he thought. The grin stayed on his face the entire time; the waves did feel rather random, and although he looked forward to them rather well, he wasn't sure how much he anticipated them. It was hard to be sure; he had to admit he was excited to see the readings.

When the last one hit, he stretched his arms out, and got up. "Your turn, then?" He smiled at Délise, feeling quite relaxed and comfortable. He insisted on hooking her up, letting his hands linger a little on her skin, before making his way to the podium to start the test, and leaning on it as he watched.

____________

Délise watched him with a wry grin. The little noises he made were especially amusing. But all in all, it looked like a lot of fun. Délise didn't hesitate to get herself strapped into the chair once Miguel was finished, "Tamper with the experiment after it's done." Délise quipped playfully, warming to his lingering touch.

When the first wave hit her, Délise couldn't help but smile broadly. It wasn't intense, but it was definitely soothing. Like warm bubbles caressing her skin in a Jacuzzi. She melted into the chair, sighing and giggling in delighted comfort by the third wave. By the end of it, however, Délise would gently moan, not so much a product of the feelings as opposed to just wanting to mess with Miguel. She was a little disappointed when it all ended, but she did feel very destressed. "Fun part's over. Don't cry on me, big boy." With that, Délise smirked and got out of the chair. Now for the...interesting part.

____________________

Miguel squirmed impatiently against the podium, smiling as he watched her. "Now who's messing with the experiment?" He teased. He made his way to the seat, putting the electrodes back on, and resting back against the back of the chair, his face already tighter than before.

Miguel didn't like pain. It was a fact he knew, but the first shock made him grimace and cringe more than he'd expected. It wasn't bad at all - like a stab of a headache, or stubbing one's toe against the wall. A sharp shock of discomfort, almost, maybe a twinge of pain but not too much. The anticipation made him cringe though, especially the last, gritting his teeth against it, wanting it to end.

He wasn't looking forward to the last one.

"Your turn," he said, finally, apologetically, as he got out of the chair. "It's not too bad, just uncomfortable." He hesitated, then stopped Délise on her way over, kissing her softly; it was nice to feel something else, something other than the discomfort he'd lived with and between. This time, he didn't really want to watch her - but he was curious. He couldn't quite help it.

_______________________

Délise did not smile watching Miguel in pain. Maybe she could tease him for wimping out. Maybe she could laugh at his discomfort, but even disregarding the fact she'd have to go through the same thing, she wouldn't act that way in front of him. If anything, she'd be sympathetic. She smiled gently when he looked at her, trying to encourage him to take it easy. It looked like it got worse over time...

"Don't worry about me." Délise kissed Miguel again before along, sitting in the chair. The first wave made her gasp. It was like nicking oneself with a knife, or a needle prick. Not too invasive, but sharp enough to be remembered. But she was used to much worse from Andreja, and strangely enough, by the second one, Délise was not so perturbed by it. She cringed at first, but then sighed aloud. She turned the pain from being against her. She didn't even realize what she was doing until the end of it. She was anticipating positively for the jolt.

Her head felt woozy, and a little sore all along her, but she otherwise didn't feel any more disturbed. She laughed nervously at Miguel, "I don't think I did that right." Before she let him get back in the seat, Délise wrapped herself around Miguel, comforting him right before the major gauntlet.

______________________

Miguel couldn't help smiling, watching Délise. He hadn't expected to, but she really seemed to be enjoying it. He knew her face well enough; he could tell that she sort of liked it. That was interesting, he thought - very interesting. "No, I don't think you did," he grinned, kissing her again. "But I took plenty of notes, don't worry," he teased.

It was easier to be brave standing with her snuggled against him. Miguel's chest was tight, his heart choking in his throat as he plugged the electrodes back in. He'd experienced pain - had his nose broken, other injuries, even been ripped apart in impossible ways - but he hadn't it, every time.

The first wave was stronger than he anticipated. It left him gasping. By the third he was crying, just a little, a few tears leaking from his eyes and streaming around his nose. By the eighth it was all he could do not to beg Délise to end it. It was constant, unending agony, never knowing when the next blow would come.

He barely had the strength to croak out a command for a trash can when he collapsed out of the chair, somehow managing to vomit into it rather than on the floor. "I'm fine," he gasped, ashamed, barely even able to look at Délise. "I - I'm fine." He was still shaking a little when he started hers; he almost couldn't bring himself to do it. This time he didn't watch, not at first, busying his trembling hands with brushing his teeth.

___________

"Miguel!" Délise squealed, unable to watch him go through it at first. She almost panicked. What if...something went wrong just then? What if the pain didn't stop for him? She ran up to him, but she didn't know what to do. She couldn't touch him, or else who knows what'd happen. Her face paled however, and she never left Miguel's side afterward even when he lurched over the trashbin.

"It's over now..." She kissed him on the neck, aware his mouth was pretty much off limits until he could clean it out. It was Délise's turn now. She swallowed hard, strapping herself in and already dreading the first wave. Even so, when it did come it came in full force, and Délise screamed. It was impossible to get used to this sort of pain. Her body comvulsed, and shook against the chair. She strapped her self in tight enough she could not rock around much though. Immobilized, Délise could do little more than hyperventilate and whimper tearfully as the last few jolts tore her apart.

Indeed, the last one was the worst, Délise loudly sobbing as the machine decided to set up a long delay. She struggled against the chair for what felt like an eternity, and when the pain did come, her head smacked against the back of the chair hard, her teeth gritting painfully. She didn't vomit, but when it was all over, she hardly had the mental strength to get out of the chair.

_______________

Miguel couldn't watch; he just couldn't. It was almost worse knowing that she was going through it, but... not quite, not as bad as the memory of the pain that hit him with every whimper she made. He rushed to her as soon as it was over, helping her out of the chair, and wrapped his arms around her, tightly, kissing her hair.

"I think," he croaked, and cleared his throat. "I think that for two very smart people, we're idiots," he kissed her head again, hugging her tightly. "Remind me why we thought this was a good idea?" He rubbed her back, gently. "I think you're too pretty. It makes me get all confused," he teased her now, hoping it would cheer her up.

_____________

Délise was still crying when Miguel picked her out of the seat. Feeling Miguel was more than a welcome sensation. He hugged her so tight she couldn't move her arms. Not that she really had the will to. She sobbed against his chest, trying to calm down from the nightmare. "And you're too handsome to say 'no' to..." Délise snuggled a little against his chest, her breath still wavering from the shock.

Sniffing, Délise forced a weak smile and looked up. "I guess we were caught up in the better half. You first, by the way." She kissed him lighty against his lips, testing the effectiveness of his brushing. Well, he at least managed to get rid of the odour. If Eric were around, he'd probably comment on how skilled Miguel was at sanitizing his mouth. Délise simply grinned, despite her red eyes and cheeks, and damp nose.

_____________

Miguel kissed her back, sweetly, taking a deep breath. "I'll make it up to you later," he promised, winking as he settled back into the chair.

The next eight shocks were a haze of incredible pleasure. It wasn't the most incredible pleasure he'd ever felt, but it was close, and experiencing it over and over again did more to help him forget the pain than anything he could have imagined. It was a rush, an almost addictive rush, and the only reason he was glad when it ended was that he couldn't help worrying he'd get addicted.

He stumbled a little as he got out of the chair this time, a dopey grin on his face, the pain that had proceeded him long gone from his mind. "Okay. Maybe we're not so dumb," he sighed, happily, giving Délise a deep and contented kiss. "Your turn."

_______________

Yeah, maybe they weren't so stupid after all. Miguel looked like he was really enjoying it. She smirked, wiping her eyes at the sight of him. The promise of something much, much better cheered her. She nearly spoke up until Miguel kissed her. It was deeper than she expected, and she could only help but wrap herself around him for a moment, taking in his kiss just a tad longer. He definitely was eager enough to make it up to her.

Délise herself sported a doped grin, hanging back in the chair in soft moaning. Her shocks were evident, as each time her contended sighing grew louder. She had nearly forgotten about the pain. She even forgot to notice the pleasure waves at all. Each time her mind tried to grasp back into the past, reliving the pleasure. It was addicting, and though maybe she didn't receive enough to lose it, she definitely craved it. Once the experiment finished, she could barely get out of her chair, she was so caught up in herself. "Worth it...so...what do the results look like?" She asked as she leaned against Miguel, wrapping her arms around his neck.

________________

Miguel pulled the thumb drive out of the console, setting it down, feeling Délise rest against him. He still felt light and smooth from the pleasure, a faint smile on his face. The noises Délise had made throughout her turn hadn't helped at all, nor had watching her writhe contentedly on the chair. "Let's look later... I think I promised to make it up to you," he kissed her, deeply, tugging her body against his, seeking another taste of that pleasure.

They made it back to the room just in time - even having peeked at their data - with Miguel still sporting a distinctly dopey grin.
