Major Announcements

12/1/09
To celebrate the end of the year, my body decided now is an appropriate time to get sick. Anyway! Good News! SANTA BOB has come to town, and he's set up shop at the Player Support forum! Find the link to the direct topic Here! That will guide you on your way to sign up and ask for items. I'll be going through and taking care of things about once every two to three days per week. Don't forget, December 4th is when the big topic to In Character celebrate our one year anniversary starts!

Time to make some announcements about December! As you know, with our one year Anniversary coming up on Dec 4th (since we came out of Beta), the Staff has been planning some major fun games and prizes for the month to properly celebrate. FFP is also going to be doing her closing events as the Student Council President, which means the board is going to be offering a lot of great stuff this next month. I know it is darned near the busiest time of the year for all of us, but December last year was a great month for our board, and I would like to shatter those records. Formal Announcement Post! Vote for Head Boy/Girl! Voting is open from now til Monday December 7th!

Welcome to Shadowside,

First off thank you for visiting our community and as you move though our rules, guidelines, and message board we hope you find the same interesting and friendly community as we have strived to develop.

We are a Play by Post Roleplaying community. Set in modern times at a completion school. With a few twists, we start with the existence of super powers in the population, magic, and abilities that make ordinary children extraordinary, add cutting edge technology, and racial tension between Humans and Evotellurics and we have a turbulent world of adventure to explore.

So please take some time explore our world and check out all that Shadowside has to offer for your roleplay and community needs.

Who said I suffer insanity? I enjoy every minute of it XD
So, I'm sure we've all seen Cruor at one point or another, RPed with her or chatted with her; and it's exactly this what's surprising. With 2 kids, one husband that comes and goes between his country and Iraq, and a full time job, Cru is still a really active player, whose posts quality and quantity doesn't decrease with the busy life-style she leads.

Now really, Cruor is a really friendly person, one you might find in the IRC, and that along with the others will welcome you and quite likely make you fall in love with this community. She's also the first to touch a topic such as cancer in character, something that surely puts everyone, both IC and OOC, to think. So, for this month MoM, this caring and dedicated mom is our chose for you all to know.

"So how did you find good ol' Shadowside? What made you want to join our little slice of the internet, and what were you up to before you joined?"

Well, I found Shadowside by looking through the zetaboards directory. I had just broken up with my old RP forum, and well…I was looking for a rebound. *smile* Turns out that you guys just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I looked through a lot of them, but I couldn’t find anything that gave me the same amount of challenge as you guys did, and the members were really friendly here. So…overall, I guess that you people were just the perfect rebound that I couldn’t get enough of. *smile*

"What are you currently looking forward to on the board?"

There are a couple of SL’s that I’m looking forward to, and of course, the student council decision. What I’m really excited about though, is the new members coming on and getting a chance to get the experience what I did, my first time on the board; all the friendly people, the nice staff members, and the rather welcoming experience that comes with joining this board, and of course, their questions and/or concerns. >_> I like listening and trying to help.

"2 kids, 1 husband, 1 job... And still posting quality posts all over, hanging out in chat, being friendly with newcomers and oldies alike... Tell us, how you manage to do all this and keep sanity?"

Sanity? What’s that? I lost my sanity a long time ago. No, really, the only reason I’ve managed to do what I’m able to do is because I learned when I had my girl to manage my time. I work a little over twelve hours every day, leaving way before the sun is up and getting home, sometimes when the sun is down. I get a fifteen minute break at work, so most of the time, I’m on my laptop, typing up here. But when I get home, I like to play with my babies, take time with my husband, and get on the computer. Sometimes I do two at once, spending time with my husband and hanging around chat. Those times when I just don’t talk for a span of time? Yeah, I’m normally just playing with my kids or hanging out with my husband. I make it work, squeezing all the things I love into one day.

"Tell us a little about yourself, and the woman behind the title."

Well sure! First things first, I’m a girl. *smile* No, besides all of that, I’m a chef. Common bit of knowledge about me, that is. I enjoy my job, and wake up in the early morning hours with a smile. Ah, as stated before in the previous question, I have a husband and two kids, a boy and a girl. My husband is Latronis, and he completes my life (my kids made it full and happy), as well as making it much more enjoyable. Ah…I went to Culinary school in Louisville, KY, worked the entire time, and managed to pay off my school loans in about two years. I’ve been married for five years to my husband (and counting!) and I’m 23 years old.

"As a writer, what are your strengths and weaknesses? Has Shadowside been able to assist you in conquering these weaknesses?"

My strength and weaknesses as a writer….are numerous and uncountable, but I can give you a few. I…tend to type as if I was the character. Don’t know if that’s a strength or a weakness, but it’s there. The longer I type with a character, the more I tend to become that character. I’ve always called Rouge my “inner me”; the one who I would be if I wasn’t who I was now. Ah, a significant weakness is that sometimes, I can’t post up to what is surely a quality post. I set a standard for myself when it comes to anything I do, but sometimes I fall well below that, just to make a deadline. Shadowside has helped me just sit down and pace myself so I can be the best writer I can be, so that even if I don’t meet the standard of…say three hundred words, my post is still a quality post that another RPer can base their post off of.

"When and where did you start role playing? Why do you love it, and what keeps you going?"

This an embarrassing question. I’ve only been RPing for about two years, but my first RPing experience was co-writing a story with my friend, and after that (I’d say about a week), there was…a Pokémon site…yeah. I was the little paragraph writer in a site full of one-liners. *smile* It was an interesting experience. I love it because of the challenge that sites provide. I can join in a one-liner site, if only to booster their performance from one-liners to paragraph writers. I join difficult to join RP sites, because I love the challenge of getting in and the continuation of proving myself. I join mid-advanced to advanced sites because I love to challenge myself and try to advance myself. So…in a nutshell, I’m a challenge junkie. That’s why I’m a chef! :D

"What advice would you give to new members who are just finding their way around the site?"

New members…hm. What I have to say to new members is simple. Have fun. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If you dive in headfirst, I can guarantee that someone will be right there with you to dive in too. If you make a mistake, learn from it and keep going; we’re not going to bite your head off for some small mistake you’ve made, so it’s okay to make them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Our admins are friendly and willing to answer any and all questions, and our members are just as willing. Don’t be afraid to let your character do out-of-character things. Such as something they wouldn’t do in their previous life, like, fall in love (Phasman, Fen), go to a ball, etc. Make your character face their worse fear, it’ll not only improve them as a character to give them a more well-rounded experience, but it’ll improve you as a writer. And…ah…don’t be afraid to voice any and all concerns. We’re a friendly people, and I can promise you that someone will do their best to answer them.*smile* And…that’s about it.

As a personal note... This interview was written at 2 AM, on my side because I was waiting for a response from my professor, on her... Because she had to wake up that early!! O_O Speaking about strange job times.
