Serial Number ASL-HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN CLASS-0007 Name Idylls of the King (Ship Hull Classification: DD-366) Type: Super Heavy Destroyer-Carrier Appearance: ![]() Length: 532 meters Beam: 69.4 meters Height: 87.9 meters Tonnage: 978,000 tonnes (standard) Propulsion: 4 x Deuterium Nuclear Fusion Engines, 20 x Reaction Control System thrusters, many x Fine-Control Maneuvering Thrusters Principal Armor Composition: Titanium-A Battleplate w/ Whipple Shield, Radiation Absorption: 5 (Titanium-50, hardened and combined with various other composite and natural metals like Tungsten at the molecular level and constructed in a manner that evenly spreads out damage), 80 centimeters thick in most areas, while 'panels' located on side of vessel are 2.5 to 3 meter thick. Whipple Shield refers to a thinner layer of battleplate, spaced 5 centimeters from the main plate and hull, defeating most sub-caliber kinetic weapons. Located in areas with sub-standard armor ratings. Launch System: 1 x Center-line Electromagnetically Assisted Catapult and Retrieval System, 2 x Standard Landing and Takeoff Bays for Shuttles/Emergency Slave Takeoff and Landing Bays Role: Fleet Escort, Assault Craft, Fast-Escort/Patrol Carrier Weapons: Main Weapons System: Mk. 16 20.3cm/60 Retractable Railgun Turrets x 10: Located throughout the ship, it is the primary armament of the Heavy Destroyer-Carrier class. Small and compact, featuring two 20.3cm Guns, these turrets accelerate metal slugs at a fraction of the speed of light. These turrets pop out of panels and there are normally six above the centerline and four below, five of these turrets covering the forward arc and five covering the rear. These guns have a rate of fire of 3 shots per minute, with an 18 second cool down time. This could be circumvented by ripple firing or other techniques to spread firing order from gun to gun. Ammunition consists mainly of kinetic-kill shots, making violent magazine explosions null, while a dedicated reactor for the weapons system means it doesn't draw power away from the main engines. Secondary Weapons System: Mk. 5 50mm Quad-Mount Autocannon Weapons System x 20: A rapidfire quad-gun autocannon system, used for close in defense. Clustered around the centerline and around vital areas. These are the Close-In Weapons System, although also good offensively, just not as effective past a given range. Specialized Ship Weapon: Reinforced Hull: As a heavy Destroyer, the Idylls of the King features an ultra-advanced hull and armor design/composition that allows it to survive immense punishment. This also led many Midlothian-class Destroyer captains to be brash and crazy, known to use their vessel's superb handling and powerful engines to get to advantageous ramming angles, often shearing away the entire bridge of an enemy ship at the cost of grinding down the armor plates at the bottom of the ship. The design of the Midlothian-class Destroyers has it that the bridge is near the center of the ship, protected by armor. What seems to be the bridge is in reality, the secondary bridge/control tower/observation deck. Crew Bridge Crew: Captain: Yumiko N. Henderson XO/First Mate: James Rinkinshale (NPC) Helmsman: Katie Maliki (NPC) Communication Officer: Indra Dhawan (NPC) Frame Pilot:
Crew Accommodations and Facilities: Crewmen bunk in 4-person cabins with fold down table, lockers for clothes and personal items, and bunks placed two high and two wide. Junior Officers and Pilots have a similar room size but with only two beds, large bath and latrine area and a dedicated computer terminal and shared workstation where the other set of bunks would be. Officers and visiting officials have a single-bed room with better bath/latrine facilities, more storage space, and a dedicated work station. All cabins are similar in size. Crew Quarters are given a gender-segregated general shower and toilet area. The gym/recreation room shares the same space as the mess hall, divided only by a single partition. Also connected to auxiliary medical bay, as well as secondary storage and secondary shipboard-armory. This serves as the central hub. Hangar adequately stores all Slaves, as well as facilities for repair and maintenance and some fabrication History: The Heart of the Midlothian-class Super Heavy Destroyer is an almost direct copy of the Lance Held High-class Super Heavy Destroyer. Visually, armor, and armament wise, they are practically the same. Their design though differs in their propulsion, sensors, and data management. The reason the class was built was due to the rise of Ship Handlers with a known M-DAT Latency. Often discovered in the latter stages of their careers, these ships were built to be basically a ship-scale version of Slaves. A captain can interface directly with the computer, and has privy to thousands of bytes of information within a second, often able to instantaneously issue a command or take over navigation, this results in an increase in performance, even if for a few minutes, but it could mean the world in a close-in melee. Finer engines, upgrades to the venerable DTXN-0092.3 Deuterium Nuclear Fusion Engines, as well as finer controls in the RCS and FMT systems results in a projected mobility increase of 35% over the best of what Lance Held High-class Super Heavy Destroyers could do. In short. M-DAT on a ship. Ship becomes quicker, more maneuverable, and more responsive. Besides, an elaborate course or direction of movement is easier transmitted or done than explaining it to the helmsman. Edited by Jusuchin, Jul 4 2010, 08:00 AM.
