I don't think there should be a law against it, but I don't think it is always the right thing to do. If a woman gets pregnant and takes no responsibility and precaution not to then she should have the baby. However, if the woman is raped or there is danger to the mother's life to give birth then I see no wrongdoing in her having an abortion. |

Well I will go against popular opinion on the site and say I'm totally for abortion. Firstly, its a foetus not yet a human being. If it can feel the pain it would be for a milisecond. Compare that to having a child into a broken house, or to a 16 year old girl or a rape victim. If someone isn't ready for a kid, things might work out, but its quite possible that kid will have a crap childhood. Secondly, sperm go to waste every second, as to eggs, they're living things waiting to be turned into foetus's, its just a stage behind. I don't believe in abortions past the first trimester or whatever because that can get brutal. I also think stem cell research should be pursued. Its a tiny instant of pain (maybe) for those unused foetuses, which can cure a world of pain for an already living human, possibly extending their life for however long. Ok now, bash me! |

Too lazy to develop habits

I'm definitely pro choice (it sounds a little weird to be "pro abortion", because some people seem to get it down the way that you're against children *lol*). So, I won't bash you on this one, maple_69 .Many arguments for choice have already been stated, and I agree with most of them. But, of course, there are some arguments against abortion that simply give me the creeps. For example,
(this one has been stated by several posters). So, a baby is there to teach the irresponsible girl a lesson? What about the irresponsible father? I think (and this is a very cautious estimation) in at least half of the cases where a girl falls pregnant unwillingly it was the guy who said "I'm allergic to latex"/"A virgin doesn't get pregnant on her first time"/"I'll watch out"/"If you didn't have an orgasm, you can't get pregnant"/"It will be more fun for both of us without a condom" and so on. And also, is a girl who is considered irresponsible in having sex likely to become a responsible mother who will do all the best for her child??? I don't know... Also, the "giving the child up for adoption" thing. Some people who support this claim it wouldn't do harm to children (at least far less harm than aborting it while it is still a lump of cells). But psychological research has shown that children can well tell their mother's voice from all other voices straight after birth, because they are able to hear inside the womb many weeks before birth. Afaik, they also recognize their mother by her smell. I don't know too much about that, but I guess that it is in some way traumatising if a child doesn't hear the voice and doesn's smell the scent anymore it got used and affected to during pregnancy. And then, I think that a woman who is denied the right to abort even though she doesn't want the child is not very likely to treat her body and the "parasite" child in it with lots of respect. She will probably go on smoking, drinking, maybe taking drugs during pregnancy, and I guess we all know what effect that has on an unborn child... I don't know how many of you actually know a girl/woman who has had an abortion. Personally, one of my best friends had one after getting pregnant from a one-night stand, and it was everything else but easy for her. She was going through a hard time of despair, in parts because she really wants to have children, but she wants them from a man who will stay with her. And then, having the child at that point of time would have completely ruined her psychologically because she was going through depression and stuff anyway. It also would have meant the end of her studies and therefore less education and less chances in work... Anyway, I just want to make the point that you can't judge over other people, and that in many situations you wouldn't really want a child to be born into the given circumstances... |

Again, the system; when I'm saying '' the system '', I'm talking about the society we all live in. On earth. Who made those apathic laws? We! Who has meanings about this and that? We! Who has the power of making choices? We! / The system; shows it's real face. Personally; I think humanity is overrated, and every decision should be taken by the individual itself, not the religion of the individual or in the country or by some other individual who thinks he got the power to it. |

When it's NOT Okay: When you agree on having sex.. you took that risk, so it's you and your partner's responsability.. putting the sins aside, if you have an abortion, you're cheating someone from the gift of life.. If it's something besides that, I guess it's okay.. |

i agree completely with the concept that no one should tell a woman what to do with her own body. I believe that we all should have the right to control our own bodies- unless it restricts someone else's ability to do so. In having an abortion, a woman may gain control over herself, but the life of a baby is sacraficed for that control. How is it that killing a baby is ok if it happens in the womb, but cold-blooded murder if it happens to an infant that's already been born? |

^ As Dr. House would say, "It's not a baby, it's a fetus." Sometimes it's still murder in the womb. Like if someone murders a pregnant woman they're sometimes tried for 2 counts. It's all relative I suppose. If it takes a breath it's a baby, if not it's a fetus. If you wanted to keep the child it's a baby, if you didn't it's a fetus. Lots of red tape. Guess that's why it's such a hot topic. |

Dreaming of a better world

Bash? I'll back you up all the way. Also, I"m against since I know of two cases where there hasn't been an abortion. Both times the girl was pregnant at 16. The guy was dragged into it, along with the parents. All the lives are completely screwed up. The girl & guy haven't gone to uni, because they're looking after the baby. Becuase of this, they can't get good jobs, and so the parents are shelling out for all of them.
But you must give advice. Not force, but advise. Especially if you're the father. If there isn't an abortion, and both your lives are screwed up as a consequence, you'll blame yourself if you don't at least try. Hell, I'm a guy, but maternal instinct is strong, and there's not much of a chance that the girl will give it up. Especially if they get pregnant at 16. And don't think about the consequences of having a life on their hands.
at 12 weeks the foetus can fit in an eggcup. I'm getting the impression that an animal that big can't be HALF as important or concious as a bunch of cells that big to most anti abortionists. A bunch of cells that barely has a form of a brain. That barely has developed limbs. Barely has developed anything. All your looking at is potential. And a lot of that potential is to screw up all the lives around the kid in the situations I've mentioned. Get married. Get a steady environment for rasing a child. Then multiply as much as you like. But, for the sake of the kid as well as yourself, don't do it before that. |

Murder. The term has been brought up at least a few times. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Abortion in some circumstances is illegal but it is flat out incorrect to classsify abortion itself as being murder. You are using a legal term here that is independent of your viewpoint. Again: murder is a legal term. If you are aware of murders taking place you should contact your local law enforcement agencies. If you're not willing to do this you should reconsider your claim of it being murder. Unjustified? Fine. That's a debate worth having. Murder? Absolutely not. Bunniesandsheep: I look forward to disagreeing with you, and am confident it will happen given our self-imposed political labels. I am in full agreement with your earlier comments in this topic regarding animals. Edited by stupidstuff, Nov 19 2008, 11:01 PM.

I'm a woman, would not have an abortion myself, but am pro-choice simply because I don't want a way for the government to control our bodies yet another way. I think it should be up to the couple and no one else. |
