Wife is allergic to husband's sperm

A US couple have received the worst wedding gift possible: the news that the bride is allergic to the groom.

Mike and Julie Boyde had been in a sexually active relationship for two years when they got married in 2005 but only had unprotected intercourse for the first time on their wedding night.

But Julie quickly succumbed to extreme pain and a visit to the doctor revealed why — her body had reacted violently to the presence of Mike's sperm.

"The pain that I was feeling was inside, like somebody sticking needles up inside me like a real painful burning," she revealed in an interview with the Discovery Channel.

The "really scary" experience was triggered by seminal plasma hypersensitivity, where Julie's body recognises Mike's sperm as being a foreign protein in the same way others react to peanut or pollen allergies.

Nerve endings are inflamed and blisters form as Julie's body attacks Mike's sperm — meaning the couple can't have children as well as unprotected sex.

Alternative forms of conception failed and the couple have started adoption proceedings.

The Boydes were interviewed for a documentary called Strange Sex.

It is quite unfortunate... But adoption is good too.

I agree - adoption is a great option for them to take, but by the same token, what if the condom breaks? Or something like that. I dunno, I just feel awful for them.

It hasn't for two years.

Two years they've been together, vs. ??? years they will be together.
The longer their together, the higher a likelihood it becomes.
