Gang invades school, assaults teenageer

A 15-YEAR-OLD schoolboy has been bashed after a group of up to 15 males invaded the grounds of his Melbourne high school, police said.

About 10 to 15 males entered Macleod College in Melbourne's north around 1.30pm (AEDT) on Monday and one of them assaulted the 15-year-old, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Two other students, a boy and girl both aged 15, came to the victim's aid and received minor injuries in the scuffle.

The group of males left the school in a vehicle, the spokeswoman said.

Police believe the victim and his assailants were known to each other.

"We are investigating the circumstances as to why an assault occurred," the spokeswoman said.

Youth worker Les Twentyman says gangs invading schools to continue disputes that happen outside school hours were becoming a major issue.

"Quite often things that happen outside a school can bring about incidents inside a school," Mr Twentyman said.

"It's becoming a major problem and teachers are now saying they are refusing to do yard duty because it's an unsafe environment."

Mr Twentyman said youth workers attached to schools could help to diffuse the problem.

Poor VCE kids... assuming they did their exam at school, that is.

For some reason, I'm always very surprised to hear of gang violence in Australia. Like no matter how many incidents reported, I'm still shocked.
This one, taking place by people 'invading' a school...It's just a surreal thought.

I didn't go to the linked article, and perhaps it's explained there... what does this have to do with religion?

Ahahah nice work Sayf :D

And I'm not. Sydney has plenty of gangs, Latin gangs, Caucasian gangs, Asian gangs, Leb gangs, Wog gangs. It's nothing seriously troubling like the Bloods and the Crips but yeah, Sydney has an underworld (so does Melbourne! :P Moran family!) and while I'm hardly exposed to it - pampered Northern suburbs girl - this sort of stuff doesn't surprise me. In fact, very close to me a Chinese family - parents and two primary-school age boys - were murdered in their own house. Police don't have any leads, but speculating that it might be in connection with the Triad.
