America has racial issues. This is just one of the many unfortunate things I've learned after living here all my life. Sure, they may only be apparent in certain areas like the south and such, but they're there, and they reflect poorly on the country as a whole. That's the downside to stereotypes though. |

You're not in much of a position to get defensive of allegations against your countries social attitudes when you're doing exactly the same thing. Australia can't accept Islam? Did you come to Australia and do a survey or something, because the last time I checked Islam is the fastest growing religion here, and in the rest of the world. Wouldn't you just hate to be a hypocrite , gee that would be embarrassing. Prejudice is a regrettable aspect of human nature, and I won't deny it’s around, but I fail to see what makes a country you've never lived in worse. Sayf, the admin of this forum, is both Australian and Muslim. He came from a conservative catholic family in a country town with no faith in high school, and is now a devout Muslim. Would you mind explaining the inconsistency regarding this fact and your wisdom?

Okay, in MzIslam's defence there have been assumptions thrown back and forth from both Aussie and American members in regards to race relations. Personally, my impression of the issue is that both nations have a mildly okay record (in recent history only, oc ourse) and we both have a pretty shocking past (as recently as the last few decades).
As an Australian Muslim, I see small sections of the community who just can't accept that Muslims are a part of our community. I also love the people who think certain groups (not just Muslims, but exclusing Muslims, of course) refuse to intergrate, and then meet a Muslim convert. None of this is common, though. Of course.
Country town. Sorta. Lol. Not cut off or anything. To clarify, my Mum is the only practising Catholic in my family, and she's only practising when it's convenient. Oh, and my brother...As a result of his wife. Alhamdulillah, all the same though.

So that actually does make you a Yankee.
