http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8279276.stm In this comment, I'm not condoning pre-marital sex of course, as it is certainly against my beliefs. But just a few things: 1. If there wasn't a retarded facination with the hymen being a mark of 'purity' or a fool-proof way of telling if someone is a virgin, this wouldn't be an issue in the first place. 2. Why is it that a man's word he's a virgin is enough? But when it's fact that a woman's hymen can break through completely non-sexual activity even her word isn't enough because there's a 'doubt'. 3. I argued this once with a fool. His response to my comment on the hymen breaking through non-sexual activity was simply "That's BS". Sad people can believe that.4. From an Islamic position. Who cares if she's had pre-marital sex? That's between her and Allah (swt) and doens't involve you. Why not focus upon marriage on the here and now and what kind of Muslim both parties are at the time. Repentance and sin are private matters. |

Sabre, that's a giant blanket argument and the issue is a litttttle more complex than that. It's obvious that on this issue in particular, you are speaking from a quite ignorant standpoint. The examples may not be as 'extreme' but similar issues come with miscontruing of different areas of Science in different areas of the world. To some starving yourself thin may seem in some warped way logical, to others self-sedatives as pain relief. You know, cos cause pretty major damage but they both are 'logical', right. What I'm saying is, these are issues with culture. The guy I spoke to, for instance, clearly believes the hymen means virginity. Is this is a religious stance? No. Is it a scientific stance? Of course not. It's simply an uneducated stance of a random guy who needs education. Culture =/= religion. Culture is truly what causes these problems. Sorry if this is incoherent, but I'm tired, and already late to that job I hate but for some reason keep going back to. |

"Abdul Mouti Bayoumi said supplying the item was akin to spreading vice in society, a crime punishable by death in Islamic Sharia law." "Professor Bayoumi, a scholar at the prestigious al-Azhar University, said it undermined the moral deterrent of fornication, which he described as a crime and one of the cardinal sins in Islam." no its not at all about religion.^ like it or not, most arabic cultures are heavily imnfluenced by islam, and why i understand your desire to defend your religion, at somepoint your going to have to admit that it is responsiblefor some things. |

I agree with what you;re saying Sayf, it's completely rediculas. Also to add to what you're saying; many women, especially those of Native American and Island decent, don't have hymens. It's a fragil piece of skin that's easily broken and to use that as a measuring stick for virginity is like using your eyes to determine if the counter is clean. You really only see whats there now. |

1. What on Earth do you know about Arabic culture? Evidently very little to nothing. The reason we're talking about Arabic culture as opposed to Islam is that they are different things. 2. You haven't read the Qur'an, you haven't even investigated the Sunnah, unless you have done so since our 'debates' in the 'Why or why not?' thread. Clearly you are spoeaking from an uneducated stance on Islam. This is people and culture, not Islam. There are numerous readable Qur'an online, why not have a read and come back with a hopefully informed standpoint. It's not about a desire to defend my religion, it's about the fact my religion and this are two seperate issues. Again, something you wouldn't know. |

Fucking hell, I'm jealous. Why the heck do we have hymens in the first place? They're completely useless, except they cause pain thanks evolution!
