Young mobile addicts 'have slower minds'

A STUDY suggests young heavy mobile phone users have poorer memory, slower reaction times and make more mistakes.
A recent study of 300 students aged 12 to 14 from 20 Melbourne private and state schools shows children who use their mobile a lot may be sacrificing accuracy for speed.

The study by researchers from Monash University shows kids regarded as heavy mobile phone users were likely to have poorer memory, react slower to set tasks and made more mistakes than students who used their mobiles a lot less.

“We took into account age, gender, ethnicity and socio-economic status in our research,'' one of the report’s author's Dr Geza Benke, said.

“But simply put, mobile phones may be teaching kids to go for speed rather than accuracy.''

The Monash University report found that overall mobile phone use was associated with faster and less accurate responses to high level cognitive tests.

The good news is the students' error rate was unlikely to be linked to mobile phone radiation.

Well, I don't use my phone a lot, and I passed all of my exams over 90% without studying for any of them.

And I did a epic block in PE. with insane reactions

I use my phone a lot, and by a lot I mean it. But I passed my exams with all being over 80% and one being under 80% and I am in high achievers class.

I barely ever use my cellphone. I only play games on it when I'm bored and don't have anything else to do.

I'm at a point where I basically leave mine in my bag and return missed calls later.
I've gone very lazy in this way.

Meh.

Ugh, mobiles. I hate phones in general, and mobiles are phones that follow you around.

I'm not quite sure why I bother taking it with me - if I'm out of the house, chances are that if someone calls I'll be trying to get off the phone as soon as possible anyway.

Dayum. You guys are so technologically advanced D:

My phones always with me. Literally, it's in front of me right now. xD. Butttt, I've broken my habit of texting in every single class. I still text in all my classes, just not math xD. And erm I'm taking 3 AP classes, and 4 other core classes. Been doing good so far. So yeahh.

Yes, finally a good excuse not to pick up the phone!

I really dislike phones anyway, it's like a phobia, when the thing rings I just want to run away even if it's a loved one..

I know what you mean. I've been known to just screen everyone's calls because there's nothing I hate more than being stuck on a phone. It's such a...confining experience. Guh!
