It's unfortunate he's clueless about religion yet still tries to portray himself as an expert despite comstantly embarassing himself.

I know I should follow the topic, keep it nice and tidy but I'll just give my views on respect and some rambling.. To over-simplify things: to me everyone is equal, beliefs do not matter. That belief comes from the way I grew up; in a town with muslim, hindu, bhuddist, christian and many other religions - aswell as many without faith: I've always seen people as equal. Before I moved to a smaller village I did not know people could be so intolerant, when I was a teen I just started seeing the world; it's a pretty hostile place: but judging, showing disrespect? It's rarely in my heart and when it is I only feel guilty.. I'll talk about my family: they're mostly Protestant/Christian, my parents are non-believers, basicly the only time I see a church is at funerals. I have allot of respect for my family; yes, they hurt me with the looks they give, the comments, the laughter & I will never forget the times they made me take off my headscarf (or Christmas last year when my grandma practically pulled it from my head) but I have to respect them; they're only human. They never physically hurt me or meant to hurt me mentally in any way: I see it as my fault for confusing them. My mothers side is more strict (my niece had to wear a skirt to work.. it's like they forget the year is 2009 and we have freedom) the other side of my family is also Christian, but at least they don't force their views and judgements upon others - they just give the looks and talk about how Islam is ruining society *sigh* Maybe in a way I have less respect for Christians, simply because of what my family is like (I feel they don't respect Islam at all) and maybe I'm too close-minded; but I try to change that, I try to respect them even if they don't respect me. I make it sound like a drama, but it's OK, in daily life I notice it less and my idea of everyone being equal is stronger. (it's one of those days: tomorrow is Eid and I've decided to go with my parents to my uncle's birthday, he's a good man, but I know I can expect more comments etc. so my feelings are strong now) |
