Okay..I plan on continually updating this topic with whatever's bothering me at the moment. No need for multiple topics.

There's this birthday party that my mum's friend (lets call her H) organized for her daughter. My entire family's invited and since Saturday's my day off, I'm gonna end up going too. It's meant to be an outdoor surprise birthday party and I'm supposed to help with decorating. Okay, no problem. H also wants us to bring the girl a present. Of course, no worries there either.

The thing that bothers me is that H also wants to make it a potluck party. That's when everyone brings a dish, and hopefully, two bottles of Coke or something. Am I the only one who thinks this is a little strange?

I mean, had it just been a regular lunch with a few families, yes, a potluck would've been fine. But she wants us to help with decorations, get the girl a present, AND bring food and drinks. What the hell. I don't want to throw the girl a birthday party just so her cheap ass parents can save money and can finally buy a third car, even though there's only two drivers in their family.

*deep breath*

What do you think? Am I being unreasonable, or is H?

Uh, no, I think that's a little over the top. I'd be a bit miffed too, if I were you.

If it was my mum, H would get her ass verbally kicked.

Don't follow me, I run into walls.
That is a bit cheap, you shouldn't have to bring food to a birthday party.

Okay, so my parents are the kinda people who are always nice. They're so nice, that even though we have loads of things to do today (finishing the packing, weighing the suitcases, etc.), when someone called us and asked if they could come over...they said yes. Saying no "seems rude", and so rather than just saying, "No, sorry...we're really busy today - come see us when we get back", they'd rather be inconvenienced by a really annoying family who won't leave until after they've eaten both lunch and dinner at our place.

Do you think it's rude to decline a guest?

Not in the slightest, especially if you're as busy as you are.
