Prologue

July 16th, 26--

Cipher had been watching the Viral base for two days. Radio chatter confirmed his observations: they were up to something. They'd been tight-lipped about exactly what; they kept mentioning obvious codephrases like "the songbird is in the cage" and random nonsense like that, so he guessed they'd caught someone important, either from the local Resistance or, more likely, The Symphony. Regardless, it was his job to ruin their plans.

--

Cipher let the Viral Replicant drop from his grappling hook. He'd fought his way through the base nearly effortlessly, as usual. Security had been better than he expected; whatever he'd stumbled on here must be important. He stood before the large security door and smirked. "Like that's going to keep me out." He took out his beamsword and activated it, illuminating his surroundings with green light. He slammed the glowing weapon into the door to the hilt and started carving a circular pattern from the floor up, bringing the blade down in an arc a good three feet on the other side of where he started cutting. He kicked the half-circle out of the way and stepped into-

It was a lab. It wasn't quite what he expected, but that wasn't the surprising part. It was the long-haired, purple Replicant that stood before him that gave him pause.

"D'Esperer. I thought I killed you."

The purple robot scowled. "I haven't forgotten. But I assume you didn't slaughter all the guards to come exchange pleasantries. I assume you came for her."

D'Esperer turned to look down at the comatose female Replicant that lay in the pod next to him. Her long blonde hair fell from beneath a blue helmet that matched the rest of her body armor. Cipher couldn't tell if the basic appearance of her was intentional, or if she was unfinished. He suddenly realized that perhaps this was more than just a prisoner.

"Who is that?"

D'Esperer smiled. "Someone we would like the humans of the world to meet. And then brutally kill them, of course. Wouldn't be much good to build a killing machine that doesn't have any targets, now would it? Sadly, the world's population is just too small nowadays. We'd like her to meet a lot more people. And then kill them."

Cipher looked askance at D'Esperer. "And how do you plan on doing that?"

"Like this."

Before Cipher could stop him, D'Esperer quickly pressed a button on the Replicant's pod. In a flash, it was gone. Cipher dashed over to D'Esperer, grabbing him by the throat and slamming him against the wall.

"Where did you send her?"

"The one...place...you...can't...get to her..."

"WHERE?!"

"The...past..."

Cipher slammed D'Esperer against the wall.

"Then you send me there too, or I swear to the Creator I'll rip your spine out and shove it back down your throat!"

D'Esperer smiled, despite Cipher's chokehold on him.

"I'd be...more than...happy...to arrange...a meeting."

Ahaha! Awesome! I'm so glad you've returned, and this is excellent. I can't wait for more. I'm afraid I don't have any constructive critisims, but thanks for coming and posting this!
