Cloud Cities High above the clouds that cloaked the ground an airship flew majestically, Dawn engines roaring. This ship, although neither largest nor fastest of its kind, was still an impressive sight to behold. It was mainly a cargo ship, carrying raw minerals and slaves from the planet below. On the upper decks, civilian passengers, not concerned with the happenings of the ground, flew from city to city. The first cities to be built were those on high ground; human settlers from Earth arrived to find an already-occupied planet which they named Mirius. Although not ideal, it had important features such as oxygen, water, animal and plant life. The only problem; the Smog. A layer of dense, noxious cloud hugged the planet’s surface. Humans could not survive long below the clouds without breathing equipment; the fumes, over a matter of days, damaged lungs and worked their way into the blood stream, and without medical attention, resulted in death. Luckily for the humans, the planet already sustained at least one sentient species; the Mirions. Odd creatures, to humans at least, travelled with large kangaroo-like legs, and three-way jaws, harking back to their trilaterally symmetrical origins. They possess immunity to the clouds, as well as the ability to “see” further through the Smog with their heat-sensing whiskers. Populations of the “uncivilised” creatures became slaves to the humans, forced to work in mines and farms on the planet’s surface; not needing the expensive equipment humans need to breath there. This cheap labour supplied the mountain-top humans with the materials they needed to expand their civilisation. Soon, towering cities suspended on stilts; marvels in engineering and architecture, and others that were built and expanded haphazardly, grew above the clouds, each with their own people and culture. These individual cities, like floating islands, were supplied with food from the ground below, and moved between cities on Energy-powered airships. The Energy, the humans claimed to have invented. Dawn and Dusk they called it, each weak to each other. Special devices filtered this energy from the atmosphere. It is everywhere, invisible but powerful. The humans used it to power most things, built guns and weaponry, even to power floating cities, that seemed to float upon the clouds themselves. Some of the older ships still used steam, and there was still a thriving trade in mining coal, and other materials from Miruis. However, the Mirions that were not happy with many of their own people becoming slaves to the humans. At first, they did not have the knowledge or the technology to combat their new overlords, over the years, slaves and workers escaped, and the Mirions salvaged human technology, and gained the power of the Energies from the humans. Some tribes and groups gained the ability to fight back. This created a new time of tension for the humans, as the Mirions hijacked ships and even invaded cities, not fighting for equality but for eradication of the creatures that came from space all those years ago. The airship shuddered, unseen a smaller, less majestic airship broke through the clouds behind it, cannons aimed at the larger one. Sounds of Energy gun fire, explosions, the large ship, helpless to the ambush, tumbled into the clouds below... There were few survivors of the wreckage, the ship crashed into the dense jungle that covered much of the planet below the Smog. Those Mirion slaves that did survive, most took their chance of freedom and escaped into the jungles. All initial characters are survivors of the airship crash, there'll be chances to introduce further characters as we go along, but at the start I'd like to keep everyone in one big group, for the sake of the story. The length of time humans have been on Mirius is probably about 200 Earth years. The planet Mirius is smaller than Earth, but still big! There's many secluded populations of Mirions all over the globe that haven't been captured by Humans, and many that hardly know of the Human's existence. For this RP, shall we say the main action takes place on the main landmass (yup, there's oceans and other islands under the clouds too), that has been effected most by Humans, however, other landmasses remain relatively unexplored. Most of the Humans see the Mirions as a lesser species, many are totally unaware that they are sentient and can even speak. Some see them as wild, yet trainable animals. Most don't know of the wide-scale slavery. Survivors, both alien and human, are open to be RPed. This is going to be a free-ish RP with no set plot, just some ideas for future plans. I'm going to make a single thread for character bios. One post per person, all characters in that post. Guides for making characters is in the bio thread. That's good. Once you've got your character bio done, make a post of it in the bio thread. Then I can have a look see if it fits in with the RP theme and suggest any changes that could be made. |

Just to clear things up, all characters are supposed to be survivors of the airship crash, there'll be chances to introduce further characters as we go along, but at the start I'd like to keep everyone in one big group, for the sake of the story. The length of time humans have been on Mirius is probably about 200 Earth years. The planet Mirius is smaller than Earth, but still big! There's many secluded populations of Mirions all over the globe that haven't been captured by Humans, and many that hardly know of the Human's existence. Most of the Humans see the Mirions as a lesser species, many are totally unaware that they are sentient and can even speak. Some see them as wild, yet trainable animals. Most don't know of the wide-scale slavery. I hope this helps with some character ideas! |

More like one of those topics where we're applying peer pressure and Squeaky keeps playing Pokemon instead. (I kid, I kid) RP should start soonishly Edited by Emil Ichbin, May 5, 2009, 10:39 am.

If he doesn't want to join, there is no point forcing him. The sooner we start the better, IMO. |

Alright, got my human character done, it's time to get this show on the road. Anybody who wants to join still can, the first part of the RP will be finding everyone, and then characters can be introduced later, too! |
