Virtualization denotes the process of creating virtual version of something including computer hardware, operating system and storage device. During 1960s, virtualization was considered as a method of logically dividing system resources provided by different computer applications. By hardware virtualization, we refer the creation of a virtual machine that acts like a real computer. The software or firmware that creates a virtual machine on the host hardware is called as virtual machine manager. Full virtualization, partial virtualization, and paravirtualization are the most common types of virtualization. Complete simulation of the actual hardware to allow software, which typically consists of a guest operating system, is known as full virtualization. With virtualization, several operating systems can be run in parallel on a single processing unit. An enterprise will be able to manage updates and rapid operating system changes without disrupting the user. It dramatically improves the availability and efficiency of resources. This IT model involves the utilization of underutilized resources. Virtual resources are dynamically applied to meet business needs without any excess technology. Hardware utilization is almost similar to hardware emulation in which a piece of hardware initiates another. Desktop virtualization is the concept of separating logical desktop from the physical machine. Session virtualization allows multiple users to connect and log into a shared computer over the network. Scalability and reduction of capital expenditure are the fantastic benefits of virtualization of IT resources. Other most popular types of virtualization are operating system level virtualization, application virtualization, and service virtualization. OS level virtualization features hosting of multiple virtual environments within a single one. |
