2 packages Italian sausage links (Hot or mild, your prefrence, NOT sweet)
1 large white onion diced or sliced (your preference)
2 medium green bell peppers diced or sliced (your preference)
1 extra large (29oz each) cans whole peeled tomatoes, cut in half to release the tomato juice
1 extra large (29oz each) cans tomato sauce
1 regular sized (14oz) can tomato paste
2 tbl vegetable oil
4 tbl sugar

Cut the sausage in half to make 2 shorter links out of each link. Remove the casings from the sausage. brown the sausage in the oil till golden brown on all sides. They don't have to be cooked through, they will cook in the sauce.

When all sausage is browned remove from the pan and add the onions and the peppers and cook till softened, add the tomatos, sauce, paste, and sugar and add the sausage back into the pot and simmer for 3 hours stirring regularly.

This will make a ton of sauce, so you will need a big pot, but you can also cut the recipie in half by using regular (14 oz) cans of the tomatoes and sauce and the small can of paste and only one package of sausage and 2 tbl sugar.

If you like a spicier sauce, you can add some red pepper flake, but dont add to much, as it really intensifies in the sauce quickly.
