The kingdom of Lliotehr has spent a century in prosperity, the realm with all of its power and strength has done as much to dissuade attack as the charismatic king Bernard Ti'Kalaer and his actions on the political field. The people of the realm have lived in relative comfort and peace and few still remember the days of war and terror that used to be. However strange occurrences are on the rise and the kingdom's knights have arrived at many a town to find them empty. However all is not dark despite strange occurrences and stranger tales, an influx of adventurers from the corners of the world have begun to arrive seeking adventure and glory that such tales usually bring. You are one of these adventures, whether local to the kingdom or from far away you have been drawn to the capital of Lliotehr, the glorious city Mahr and here is where your adventure and that of others will begin.

*****

Bernard looked out of his window with a sigh. He should be happy he supposed, after all there were so many adventurers in the square. Still he felt he was sentencing them all to a fate possibly worse than death. He shook his head and reassured himself that it had been their choice, even if they didn't know what the danger truly entailed. Straightening the heavy crown upon his head he steeled himself before pushing open the large double doors and striding confidently onto the balcony above the square.
"Welcome! To everyone! I king Bernard Ti'Kalaer personally extend my thanks to each and every one of you for attending. Were times not as they are I would not have called you here. However, for the first time in a century my country is facing peril. In the face of peril and dark deeds I ask you to stand strong and strive to protect this country even though it may not be your own. My knights will assist you in any way they can, and I would encourage you to deliver any of your findings to the nearest guard post so that we may sooner come to the root of this blight that is slowly spreading it's way across the realm.
"I know that with your help we will be able to stop these occurrences at the source, and defend not only my own realm, but also those beyond it's borders which I have no doubt will come under this blight's effect if not stopped immediately. Now I have wasted enough of your time with the rambling of an old man, and I hope for all our sakes that your combined efforts will bring aid in these darkening times."
As the speech finished a cry rose up from crowd much as when he addressed his own citizens. He didn't know if these adventurers and ruffians from both his own country and others would be able to help, but if it saved his people it would be more than worth it.

*****

A whisper. The sound of rustling leaves and gently shifting wood was comforting and reassuring. The trees about him were pleased by the wind brining fresh air with them and granting them the limited movement. He sat amongst the clovers, soft grasses, and mosses that grew about the base of one of the great trees watching and listening peacefully. Breathing deep he relaxed and began to lay back when the roar of a crowd suddenly shredded his perception.
Back in reality the illusion of his own mind no longer there to comfort him Thyrn grunted unhappily gently shifting the pack on this bodies smaller form. A jab to his ribs had him shoot a cold glance at the amused looking woman beside him her fiery hair and jewel like green eyes regarding him lazily.
"The speech is over, obviously, shall we head out or are we going to spend another night in this town of dead stone?" Her tone was musical but held a note of disdain that she couldn't quite manage to hide.
"Now, Miihn we may not like cities, but today is a day for gathering information, and learning which direction to start off in. It would do us best to take advantage of the possible allies and enemies here." Saying this he ruffled her hair smiling sympathetically.
Before long they were weaving their way through the busy streets and away from the mosaic bricked square where the King had given his speech. Passing over the lifeless worn cobblestones Thyrn glanced about trying to find a tavern or inn that appealed to him.

"...will come under this blight's effect if not stopped immediately...", the King had no idea what a blight truely was. A blight was not something to be trifled with, the dark powers rising were nothing to be merely glanced at.

Lenard knew the powers of darkness, he knew the powers all too well. They had infested him, and though the constant feeling of dread, and the nagging instinct to consume souls no longer affected his weak and sickly body, he knew that he might always have to feel the dark powers rushing through his veins.

"Hey, Moron... Do you need to be so....", Lenard's face was around chest level with Hul'Kareth's gorgeous human form, adorned in a sleek deep purple dress, long golden hair draping down her back, and height being unnecessarily tall.

"errr... noticeable." Hul'kareth was by far the most beautiful woman in the crowd, the shame being that she was an imp in disguise. Lenard sulked, attempting to appear only as a sick, and weak commoner. He succeeded in making his disguise, along with his zombie followers Blargh, and Twinkles, disguised as beggars... sick beggars.

Lenard had to be very clear with Blargh, and Twinkles not to make any noise, or eat any flesh, as that would instantly get them run out of town, or worse. Urgh meanwhile was stuck inside a small bag, his bones separated, to later be placed back together, and not having a mind of it's own, Urgh never really minded.

"Maybe if we help out with this whole blight thing, they'll help me find a cure for this terrible affliction", Lenard said, quizzitively.

"Blargh?", questioned Blargh, not quite understanding what Lenard was getting at... or understanding anything at all.

"What ever do you mean Lenard, dost thou not enjoy the company of thine loyal companions? Surely you must have some desire to use our powers to, let's say... Kill this entire crowd, and summon them up again as your own personal invasion force? Damn, did I let that out?", Kareth was being cute, but at the same time was making sure Lenard didn't abandon his Lichly place. If Lenard left his undeath, Kareth would die as well, being bound to the Lich.

Lenard and his party sauntered into a cheap looking inn. Awed by Kareth's beauty, the young and impressionable innkeeper could only mutter and give them a room, when Kareth leaned against the counterside. "That was unnecessary, rude, and manipulative, Kareth, I am very disappointed in you".

"Disappointed, agreeable, I care not what you think, Skullik Tenardrius. I merely want some rest afore the next day we meander around looking for your futile cure". Lenard had upset Kareth yet again, he payed little heed to this, caring as little for her as she pretended to care for him, and slept.

The inn he had walked into had seemed the most welcoming of the dozen or so they had passed in their wanderings. Unfortunately however the atmosphere held a slightly unwelcoming feel to it, as if they didn't belong. The walls were covered in rich cloth hangings and a large fireplace centered the left hand wall. All about them men of what would be considered the upper echelons of society drank with practiced elegance a variety of rare and potent spirits.
Walking across the room to engage the patron of the establishment in talk, and then hopeful accommodations, brought the familiar feeling of being watched. The man they had to talk to happened to be a twig of a man covered in rather fine silks. His expression was neutral but the way he spoke was far from it.
"And what to you, want?" The way the inn keeper's voice emphasized the word 'you,' and the way that he spoke as if he had thousands of better things to do despite his standing there idly only seconds before. It showed that the innkeep highly doubted that Thyrn could even afford the services provided.
"I was hoping that my friend and I could purchase a couple of your rooms for the night." Thyrn almost went as far as to smile warmly decidedly keeping his tone pleasant and calm.
"Keep your change, you probably couldn't affor-" It was at this point that a large heavy gold piece had made it's way into Thyrn's hand followed by a couple more.
"Would five do?"
"Of course, please do follow me to your rooms." Gone was the haughty inn keeper before them replaced by a man filled with greed, and hoping to milk as much from a rich customer as he could. Still much more politely, a nice thing given, the inn keeper lead them up to a fine oak door on the second floor of the building and led them in.
"Everything is to your liking I should hope?"
"Yes, It'll do just fine."
Thyrn watched as the inn keeper left with a literal skip in his step another of the heavy coins pressed into his hand as he had gone. Still it comforted Thyrn none as he closed the door. While the inn keeper might not try it, hopefully, any number of the patrons would likely want to send cutters while he slept hoping to make off with all of the gold that he held. Sighing Thyrn set down his pack acquired specifically for this trip and let himself rest on the bed. It was surprisingly soft and surprisingly clean, he hoped it would give a decent amount of comfort for the small amount of sleep he'd be getting. Although more sleep than he'd had in recent weeks.
With a murmur to Miihn they both set about dousing the candles in the room and within the hour he was asleep.

A single man, dressed in elegant robes, with a very strong, and beautiful voice stood atop a pedestal, and as the crowd went silent, expecting a speech... the man broke into boisterous song

Heroes, Heroes! Over Here and there
Heroes slashing, fighting everywhere!
Undead bastards, demons from the dark,
Peerless devils always strike their mark!

But are we honestly afraid! (No!)
are we honestly afraid! (No!)
honestly afraid (No!)
Will we be standing tall (YES!)

Heroes, Heroes! Over here and there
Heroes slashing, fighting everywhere
Wizards casting, priests praying to their gods
Combat-seeking warriors covered in their blood!

We'll be covered in their blood! (Yay!)
Covered in their blood! (Yay!)
Deep in their blood! (yay!)
But we will live on! (Yay!)

Demons, Demons, giving deadly stares
Getting slaughtered by the folk who dare
heroes around us, this war they will win
now it's time for the tourney to begin!

Tourney to begin!
It's time to begin!
Let's Begin!

And then the crowd joined in... in perfect harmony.

Men
Heroes! Heroes! Over here and there.
Heroes slashing, fighting everywhere
Undead Bastards, demons from the dark
Peerless devils, always hit their mark

Women (At the same time as the men)
Our kingdom is safe
No need to be afraid
The day is ours
let's take it!

Everyone in canon
Heroes! Heroes! Over here and there! (Heroes! Heroes! Over here and there!)
Heroes slashing, fighting everywhere (Heroes slashing, fighting everywhere)
Undead bastards, demons from the dark (Undead bastards, demons from the dark)
Peerless devils, always hit their mark (Peerless devils, always hit their mark )

But we're not afraiiiiiiiiiid!

It was going to a party, filled with food, drink, women, and demonstrations of these heroes skills... a wonderous day indeed.

A soft sleepy yawn drifted across the room now bathed in the warming, golden light of the morning alerted Thyrn to Miihn's lucidity. Rising himself Thyrn stretched stiff muscles from a night of watch and careful listening. Despite suspicions of the city folk's greed nothing had happened in the night and for the most part they had managed to get a good nights sleep.
"The streets are rather lively this morning, a festival perhaps?" The sleep in Miihn's voice rapidly vanished as she gazed out of one of the rooms fine windows.
"Festival or not we should probably head out into the city. We don't want a repeat of yesterday, and we'll need all the information we can get if we hope to restore balance to these parts."
"True enough, maybe we'll have a little fun too."
Thyrn smiled an odd sensation given this body and noted the hopeful tone to Miihn's voice. He himself wanted to spend their days having fun and relaxing as they had for a while, but the needs of this land and the possible threat to the lands beyond and his own were hardly something he could ignore.
Stepping out into the streets was akin to walking out into a strange dream, only it was very real. People were everywhere and the formerly crowded streets were now packed to previously unfathomable numbers. Everywhere there was song and the chatter of exited men, women, and children. Hawkers and other merchants tried to shout over the din hoping to gather the attention that would surely sell their wares.
Migrating with the flow of the crowd, and being careful not to get separated they made their way toward the main congregation of people. The large square was filled with attractions including a roped off area in which a tournament seemed to be starting up, various food venues, and plenty of jewelry peddlers.
With a sigh and a hope Thyrn plunged into the throng of living bodies hoping to catch word of what is confirmed about this disturbance, or find someone worthy of traveling with. Today was likely to be a long day.

"You sir! Thou art a foolish wench adorned in the clothing of an impoverished minstrel!"

The first warrior had already begun his string of insults to his latest opponent.

The opponent stood silently, swaying from side to side, keeping their head down, whilst their hands roughly gripped a shiny, though old blade. Luckily for the second warrior, the weapons were provided, his sponsor was not keen on offering him equipment.

Meanwhile in another part of town,

"Twinkles! Twinkles, where are you?! You let a goddam zombie out of your site for a split second and, 'woosh', he's gone in a flash... how do the cruel gods of twisted fate expect me to get out of this one?".

Lenard had lost Twinkles. Kareth had gained an entire onslaught of men overfilled with delight at her beauty. Blargh was spreading some disease or another, which was the reason for the small spits of vomit here and there. Ungh was, luckily, still in his suitcase.

And Twinkles... Twinkles was winning the grand melee.

"DIE YOU IMPERVIOUS VILLAIN DIE! Diiiiiiiiieeeeeee... die, please, die! Why will you not fall... am I really so weak? Why do you resist my everloving strengths...".

The first warrior was crying, sobbing, and feeling a huge amount of fatigue. He had nimbly dodged, and parried each of Twinkles mighty blows, yet he could not resist this impoverished, sickly, commoner's pure consistency. Once the first fighter fell, three more were to follow. Twinkles had gained a bit of a following.

And though Twinkles success must have been great for him, another success would be great for Kareth... as she was dubbed, "Festival Queen".

Not attracting any attention had clearly gone the opposite way Lenard had planned, as he travelled with the "Brawler-Rank Champion", the "Festival-Queen", the "Enchanted Moaning Suitcase" (Which a young ((and useless)) apprentice wizard had dubbed his own creation), and finally, "Blargh" who had earned no accolades, 'cept amongst the drunks who admired his putrid breath (they assumed it was from his alcohol intake). At least Lenard had earned no praise, that was their safest circumstance.

At least that's what Lenard thought.

"You there! You release a mystical aura, a very powerful one indeed! Almost as if you held the power of the ages inside you! Come here young man, you simply must participate in our lovely Mage's Gauntlet!"

Lenard had just attracted attention.
