Our re-match against Elham was played on a scorching hot summers day in front of a huge crowd of parents! The format was 20 overs per side, batsmen retire if they get to 30 runs and no more than 3 overs per bowler. Wides would be 2 runs but no extra ball (except for the final over of each innings where extra balls would be bowled if necessary). Elham went in to bat first. Things got off to a good start for Elham with our first over being somewhat wayward and the ball also finding the boundary on one occassion. Young Tom Mullan bowled second over and despite being pulled away for 4 early on he managed to get the dangerous opener caught on the boundary by Yardy - Davis going for 9 from 6 balls faced. Wickets then started falling quickly with James bowling the new bat for a duck and then Art Leaver having their Number 4 stumped first ball and the other opener run out in the same over. Elham were now 29 for 4 afer 4 overs. Despite these early wicket though the runs were still piling up due to some inaccurate bowling and J. Owen playing some nice shots. Over No. 8 saw Yardy get No 6 stumped (more excellent work from Ben Mullan behind the stumps). Robert got in on the act in his first over with yet another good stumping from Ben. Elham now 67 for 6 from 11 overs. A good partnership then ensued between Owen and Van Eerten, putting on a stand of 24 for the 7th wicket before Owen was run out for a very well played 20 - 93 for 7 from 15. 2 more wickets fell late on - a caught & bowled from Charlie and another run out. Elham eventually finished on a very good 112 for 9 from their 20 overs. Things started badly for the Saltwood openers when James Canter was run out for 1 in the second over. Ben Mullan was playing well from the other end and Yardy came in to smash a couple of good 4s before being bowled going for 1 too many! Tom Leaver then came to the crease and gave great support to Ben who carried on playing nice shots for 1 and then smashing 4s all round the ground. Unfortunately for Saltwood he soon got to 31 having just hit another 4 and was forced to retire (although he could come back in at the end if everyone else was out). A great innings! Ben's retirement bought Charlie out to the middle. Tom then chipped one to point and Saltwood were 71 for 3 from 12 overs. Big Foot then came in with a bat almost as big as he is and proceeded to weild it effectively, scoring a quick 7 runs before being caught. James came and went very quickly having been bowled bringing Chris to the middle. Saltwood now on 103 for 5 from 18 overs. 10 runs rewuired from the final 2 overs and Charlie on strike. First up was a wide meaning just 8 more were needed. Charlie then decided that he had had enough messing about and promptly smacked 2 consecutive 4s behinf square winning the match for the Mini Woods! Ben Mullan top scoring with 31 Not Out and Charlie with a very good 19 Not Out. Saltwood get their revenge on Elham and their first victory of the season.

It was obviously a good Wood weekend all round and I like the idea of Mini Woods as the colts team. Seems as though your Thursday workouts are paying off, congrats to all involved and hopefully some budding "big" Woodies in the making. |

I am not so sure about the idea of budding "big woodies"... Reminds me a bit of a teacher we had at the Harvey! Oh my god the horror! |
