Welcome & First Points OK, so you must have found the register section. Great job for getting that far. Seriously it's proven to be a hard task for many in the past which is why I now have a nice button in the welcome box. Unfortunately that log-in thing does not disappear though, so don't worry if you're logged in and can still see it there is no problem. Right anyway, if you need help then first of all, check the F.A.Q you might just find your question there. You might not though, not many people have asked questions yet. If its not then then of course the best people to ask are the staff. Currently, your only option there is me. I'm Eldarwen (or for short: Eld, Eldy, El the list could go on...) I am the creator, owner and administrator of Saeruel. Obviously I am the top person to go to, if I can't answer your question, well lets face it we're all in a bit of a pickle... Now some things aren't mentioned in the F.A.Q. but you can probably find them elsewhere which is another reason why it important to read all the rules and other information sections. If you haven't read them yet then go on, go now. There are links in the welcome box under the title 'Useful Links'. That makes sense now doesn't it? Second Welcome & On With The Guide Right then, welcome back to the idiots guide, or the more friendly name Beginners Manual. I'm not calling you all idiots but you must of heard of the books even if you've never read them (I know that's the case with me anyway...) Anyway, I tend to head off on tangents sometimes, please forgive me. Now this guide may actually help you all regardless whether you are new to roleplaying or not. Making A Character Hopefully you've read all of the information in those links, honestly they are pretty helpful. The next step will be to make your character. No matter what type of animal you're making, you need to post the topic here. The description rules are obviously the main thing you need to check here, they basically let you know what you need to do. From past experiences though, apparently it's not been clear enough. Follow everything that the form says! The 'Topic Title' needs to be your character's name, absolutely nothing else. The 'Topic Description' on the other hand is simply their clan and position. This means that you don't go typing 'My Wolf Character' or 'Eldy's Character'. I'll edit this to let you know what to do for a Loner, when they are allowed. The second place you might want to look at again is the Names list. Easiest way to check and see if your name's already been taken would be to use the find bar. Hold down ctrl + F and then type it into the bar. If it doesn't find anything, great go ahead, but if it sees your characters name, unfortunately you'll need to change it. When it's all done, just wait for a member of staff to accept it. Sometimes you may get told to change things, other members may hint you to do that as well, they're allowed, they're just trying to help. It's those type of members that'll stand a good chance at a staff position. If you do need to change stuff, be sure to make sure the staff know, otherwise you might get ignored for a little while. Roleplaying Now that you've been accepted you can start roleplaying. There are various threads which is what you roleplay in. However each character can only be in one thread at once in the same way that in real life you can only be in one place at once. (This stuff is in the rules but you seem to be confused so I'm clarifying stuff) Your character won't simply appear in one thread and that'll be it, they continue their lives in Saeruel. If there is an open thread already, then you can probably join that. If not, then you can go ahead and start one of your own. Use common-sense though when doing this, post in either loner lands or your clan's boards unless there is a good reason for them to be elsewhere. The only things I ask for when you roleplay is make them readable and understandable. I'd rather none of this 'the femora trotted into the clearing, banner held high above her cranium delicate pillars carrying her bodice blah, blah, blah'. I guess though, those that write like that probably aren't even bothering to read this. It just makes it easier for people to understand, and lets be fair, did David Clement-Davies or Richard Adams write like that? If they can sell loads of books writing normally, I'm sure you can still have an enjoyable roleplay doing the same. No chatspeak when you're roleplaying please, it doesn't look good. And finally at least one 100 words is all I ask for. Now more on that 100 words limit. If you're struggling try be a little more descriptive about their actions, the scenery. The more detail you find to put in, the longer your replies will get and the roleplays will become more interesting. Version One: 'The wolf walked through the clearing and stopped when he saw a rabbit. "I could do with food" he said.' Version Two: 'It was a fairly cool day, with a light breeze brushing through the quiet landscape. A single wolf walked through the empty clearing, he was moving at a fairly slow pace, but he had no reason to hurry. It was a calm and pleasant day, he was content to simply relax. He did have a reason to stop though, as he suddenly caught sight of a rabbit hopping alone through the grass. He watched the creature nibbling at the grass and a thought entered his mind. "I could do with food too" He whispered to himself, licking his lips lightly as he thought about eating. Of course though, his meal wouldn't be quite a green as the rabbit's.' So that post would have gone from 20 words to 118. I know some of you are probably thinking that its easier said than done, but the more you work at it, the easier it will become. More will come as I think of it. Also, a favour for my members; let me know if this makes sense. |
