If any supernatural entity, capable of slowing down time several hundred times, had happened to be watching a certain sector of Core Space, they would have seen, for a milisecond, the YT-1210 freighter Smuggling Skylark speeding past at beyond the speed of light. Thaispel Kunai, Advozse smuggler for hire, leaned back in the cockpit of the freighter (officially registered as the Fluent Merchant). Sunken eyes half-closed, grim features relaxing on his face, he reflected on his life since leaving Riflor, his homeworld and, he realised now, possibly the most boring place in the Galaxy. Thaispel was an idealist, a dangerous thing to be in these times. He'd quickly realised, following the advent of the Empire, that one could not in good conscience be an idealist and serve the government. His parents, two Advozse born on Corellia before moving to their racial home, had agreed with him vociferously, going so far as to help Thaispel do anything he needed which would get him out of Imperial service. The life Thaispel had chosen was that of smuggler. It was criminal, yes, but Thaispel was a great believer in the principle of honour among thieves, and had quite a few friends within the wider community of smugglers. It was a way to get back at the Empire, and a way to preserve one's integrity in the post-Clone War era. And it fitted perfectly with the Corellian mentality in which Thaispel Kunai had been raised. His father had seen him off with a tear in his eye. Kunai had hung around Nar Shaddaa and made friends and alliances within various influential smugglers and even Hutts. As a result he had obtained his wonderful, soulful ship, and a useful getaway speeder, a Koro-2 he had dubbed the Gallant Stallion. The two were a good way of making a living. And now, living the life of a drifter, he was drifting towards the Core Worlds. He wasn't sure where to set down. Corellia was always nice to visit, or Coruscant, for even now there were plenty of places to hide on Imperial Center - the Emperor had probably set half of them up himself, Kunai reflected in a little black humour. Ah, well. He would go with the wind, as drifters do, and see where fate would take him. |
