I certainly wouldn't. Roy was pretty emotionless in his game and a 'basic swordsman', but if the next Smash director, whoever he or she may be, can make a decent, unique moveset and personality for him (Flare Blade and Counter don't have to be changed)... that would be totally, well, awesome... Even if Roy isn't my first choice for the next character, and even if the Black Knight, Lyn, Hector, Ephraim, Sigurd, Leaf, Celice, Ranulf, Sothe, Sheeda, Ayra, Elincia, and Micaiah all top him for my first choice for a new FE fighter. >.>

I don't mind him, it's just, as you said, there's much better candidates. I just want emotional characters instead of boring, static characters like Pit, the IC's, Jigglypuff, and the Pokemon Trainer. I want characters that it MEANS something to play as them. King Dedede, Bowser, Ganondorf - they show endless determination and a "never give up, no regrets" kind of fighting style, while Meta Knight's fights were a lot like Grey Fox (just a duel, give your all, win or lose, make it a battle to remember), and those are simply a pleasure to watch. And Snake is...need I say more? The Black Knight shows a lot of regret in his swordplay, trying to be someone he's not, yet trying to please his master. Micaiah has a disdain for fighting and tries to stay away from it. Roy was...well, he wasn't really anyone, just product placement for FE6 in Japan. If he gets a personality, then sure, let him in. But if he's just a boring character with no emotion, no drive, then I say no. |

Yet another epic post brought to you by Kamekguy, which I agree with wholeheartedly 100%. Roy really was an advertisement of sorts, no matter what Sakurai says to shoot that idea down. Its pretty obvious that he was, and he just ain't a great character because he is personality-less. |

It "meant something" to play as them? They might have back stories in their own games, but they sure as hell never had a reason to be in Smash Bros. All these traits you listed may be what you see in the characters, but not what they actually portray. The story behind the series is just all of the Nintendo characters brought to life by Master Hand have to take him down now (no, I'm not taking the SSE into account). Roy had a personality as well. Go play FE6 and you could point out things from his game that might give him "a purpose" in the game as well. Anyway, Roy was just a damn clone, and was pretty much replaced by Ike. However, with their personalities, they convey that into the series. Look at King Dedede as he spins his hammer, smiles as he tosses his minions, "The Big Gay Dance", et cetera. In addition, their appearance adds something. For example, Bowser's appearance brought about the appearance of his minions, while Meta Knight made way for the Halberd. Roy...he just feels...empty...nothing's there...nothing to add...just there to be there...*shudders* |

Listen to the determination in his voice as he releases his fully charged Flare Blade! Surely he must have something - or somebody - to fight for. This is the most ridiculous thread I've ever seen. Ever see Metal Gear Awesome? When he releases his Flare Blade, he sounds more like he did what Donald Anderson in that than fighting for what he believed in. That or he really, really hates Pichu. |
