Why I prefer Melee :P

W-wa-wait!!!! Did Red just say Ike was a 'clone'? Meh, whatever. Considering the only clone move Ike has is Counter, I just don't understand why people say this.

And Spoon.... Awful? Hardly... Unless you're looking through a professional view, that is...

They would get discouraged? Honestly, being beaten repeatedly by somebody a lot better than I am would make me more inclined to improve. Playing somebody a lot better than you in Melee did help you improve. I honestly would be a lot more discouraged if I lost to somebody a lot worse than I am because I tripped at a bad time. I would feel like shit if I lost a tournament I should've won. The other way around applies a lot more to the situation than Sakurai is aware of.
Quoted for TRUTH!

No, he said he REPLACED a clone. He replaced Roy. He is not himself a clone.

Well, that, and I just don't like the bloody stage. Falling platforms are annoying, walkoffs, tight spaces, breakable blocks ftl, and while it looks kinda nice it really isn't a good stage. =/

Alright then. Didn't notice the 'replacement' part. My apologies to Red for that.

Lack of edges could be pretty annoying at times.

Holy shit, are you guys kidding?

Everything about Melee is just more... epic. How can you not enjoy yourself? And if people didn't enjoy themselves while playing it, why the hell would they play it so much?

And what about it looked terrible? Seriously, the detail was exquisite if you look at it that way, definitely top-par for a gamecube game. And as far as it "didn't feel like a good game", I'd really like to know... cuz I've been playing Melee for years now and have never, never truly gotten bored of the game.

Unless, of course, you were beaten every time you played it ;) One of my bros is like that. He likes Brawl better cuz he has a better chance of winning. lol.

EDIT: I do, however, agree with you on the stages. Almost EVERY stage in the game was shit, and I only played on about 10% of what was there. The roster could've been a LITTLE better, but the game was already jam-packed with all the trophies, 1-player modes (events were new at this time), and good soundtracks/graphics. They also doubled the items you can have in-game. I seriously don't know how you can say Melee was bad unless you were either really bad at it or just never got to play it until after you'd gotten Brawl.
First off, don't shove your opinions on me. Just because you enjoyed it doesn't mean everyone else does. Just because alot of tourney players like it doesn't mean everyone does.

It looked like shit. Just because Mario and Luigi's overalls looked like real blue jeans doesn't mean that the game didn't look bad. Don't use the fact that it was on the Gamecube as an excuse for the overall style to look like that.

And do not assume that I was bad at the game. You do not know me.

While I'm being a jackass, I may as well offer some advice to the both of you; be people first, and competitive players second.

Of course, compared to Brawl, it may've looked bad, but what about how much of a step-up it was from Smash 64?

Plus, if you really want a game that's just all graphics, play something on the PS3. =P

Well, I meant the walk-off edges of the stage, not the edges of the two pits.

@ Teh Kaiser: He's not "shoving his opinions on you." All he's doing is defending Melee the same way other people are defending Brawl. It's not like there is a risk of our opinions monopolizing yours or making them obsolete. We're just discussing the reasons we like a certain game. We like Melee because we prefer the gameplay. Brawl looks much nicer, of course, but the graphics in Melee flow nicely and fit the game just fine. I didn't think they looked bad at all. The most important part to me is the gameplay. Sure, it's bad if the developer half-asses the visuals, but they don't need to be PS3-caliber for me to enjoy the game (yes, I know this is the cliché Nintendo fan argument, I don't care x3 ).

Also, he's not assuming you're bad at the game. He was just asking if you were, because the reason one of his brothers likes the game is because he is not too good at Melee.

Better competitive play is not the only reason we like Melee. Honestly, I even like party matches or "three-for-alls" better in Melee, although we still end up turning items off most of the time. I don't like a lot of the items in Brawl, either - some of them are really annoying (like the smart bomb and the curry), and some of them are boring. I actually preferred the items in the original, because they were all good. In Melee, there were some bad items (metal, invisibility, the party ball, the mushrooms) that were annoying, but there are many more in Brawl. In both games, I usually just turn off all but the original items. <_<

Anyway, don't assume we are attacking you for your opinion. If there's anything I typed that makes it seem like that, I apologize. None of us are trying to force our opinions on you. I never once said anything along the lines of "LOL GAIZ BARWL IS FOR TEH NOOBS YOU GAIZ R GAYHOMOFAGGOTS PLAY TEH MELEE."

edit: It looked that bad?
