Marth is the prince of Altea, a knightly country located within the continent of Akaneia, as well as a direct descendant of the hero Anri, the original slayer of Medeus, the dark dragon. Marth was forced into a swift exile from Altea to neighboring Talis when it was attacked and nearly completely destroyed by another neighboring kingdom, Dolua, the land of dragons. During Dolua's siege of Altea, Marth's father was killed and his sister, Ellis, was taken hostage. When Marth learned that the evil priest Garnef was behind all of sorrow, the two swiftly become arch enemies, with Marth vowing to have Garnef's head in the end (this is a METAPHOR by the way, he doesn't actually get Garnef's head). To even get near slaying Medeus, who had been ressurected by the evil priest, and saving his kingdom altogether, Marth had to gain the holy sword Falchion, and the heavenly shield known as the Fire Emblem. Traveling through all kingdoms in Akaneia, which are Altea, Akaneia (which is really cleverly named, amirite?), Gra, Talis, Orleans, Gruneia, Khadein, Macedonia, and finally Dolua, Marth gains the two weapons needed to face off with Medeus and ultimately slays him, and Garnef as well. Garnef's death, the return of Ellis, and the latest slaying of the dark dragon signalled that the entire continent was once again at peace, though only for a short while. Only but a few years later, Marth's old ally in the Second War of the Dark Dragon and prince of Orleans, Hardin, was, at the time, the new king of Orleans. However, Marth knew that something foul was in play, when Hardin's forces started to occupy other kingdoms by force. As a result, Marth and his army, under the command of General Lang, once again traveled the continent of Akaneia, fighting Hardin's forces and liberating the many kingdoms he took over along the way. It is soon revealed that dark forces, by that of Medeus, who is found to be still alive, are at work, contorting the minds of Lang, Hardin, and the forces of Orleans. To save Akaneia again, Marth had to retrieve the Fire Emblem from the princess Nina, kill Medeus again, as well as Garnef, whom Medeus had ressurected again. In the very end, Marth was forced to kill Hardin to destroy the darkness in his soul, and to save his sister Ellis, as well as many as other girls who were love interests of men in the story. Hey, he saved his country, his sister, several others, and got to marry the girl of his dreams, the pegasus knight and princess of Talis, Sheeda, so I guess he turned out pretty good, right? TRIVIA * The tiara Marth wears is actually Ellis's. He was given this by her right before she was kidnapped to remember her by. * Fire Emblem DS is a remake of Marth's second game, Moshno no Nazo, which is a remake of the first plus an entirely new 'part'. * Marth was the first ever Fire Emblem character to appear in the Super Smash Bros. series. * Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Marth's first game, was made into an anime, which was released in the United States in the mid-1990s. However, Marth's name was Mars in the anime. * Mars was originally going to be kept Marth's name in the English versions of 'Super Smash Bros. Melee' but, during the last few weeks or so of translation, this was changed for unknown reasons. |
