Every 100 years, a wolf is reincarnated and sent down to the country of Nippon. Her goal- to defeat Orochi and save the world from darkness. 99 women had died at the hands of Orochi for years- until Shiranui came to save the 100th maiden from a cruel death. The battle with Orochi was fierce, but good triumphed over evil- the heavenly wolf, along with the 6th Celestial Envoy, prevailed.

However, she died in the clutches of Yami- attempting to stop the day of darkness. It was unknown what had happened to the celestial envoy. 100 years later, the legend restarted- with Amaterasu slaying the Seven-headed terror. This time, Amaterasu managed to defeat Yami, and she returned to the Celestial Plain.

Amaterasu was happily running about the fields- she was joyful because she had a feeling something wonderful was going to happen- perhaps a visit from Issun, or maybe she would find a mate! She dashed through the plains for hours, until she ran out of breath. She painted a bush to rest her head on, and fell fast asleep. Minutes later, the volcanic mountain erupted. Amaterasu woke to the sight of dead bodies surrounding her. It was then she remembered the moddo of a great friend of hers: "Leap before ya think Furball!" She and the few remaining gods leapt down to the deep waters below.
