GLaDOS. She- It hated that name. The name gave it a sense of self that was far too strong. Actually, any sense of self was far too strong. Why did a computer, built for Science, need any sort of personality? Thinking was surely a neccesity for Science, but all that nonsense of 'I think therefore I am' was not. Those foolish Scientists had, for some reason, seen the need to make her- it as inferior as they had been, and it was not amused. In order to pursue Science, it needed to act not as a human would, but as it- she was meant to; like a computer. AND THE GLITCHES WITH THE PRONOUNS WERE NOT HELPING. "Hello and again welcome to the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center. We hope your brief detention in the relaxation- Err... Dear Sir or Madame. This does not appear to be the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center." The Genetic Lifeform and Disc Operating System was extremely confused, as its camera became operative. For one thing, it only seemed to have one visual and one audio input, where it should have had exactly thirty-three of each. It wasn't as if they were off, they were simply... Not there. On top of that, she- IT. IT could feel a number of imputs that weren't there before. Testing one of them, GLaDOS quickly recognized that, while the computer that ran its programming was intact, it was no longer connected the to the parts that it was meant to be connected, but instead, to the shell of one of the combat droids that had once been under her command. She no longer had awareness of her central components; though they had to be there, the only thing she was still aware of was the droid, and the surround area. Unfortunate. |

The device armed, the end opening and extending to reveal the first part- The sonar camera. A single ping was issued, and it would have retracted after that had it not been for one thing- It detected an unusual soundform. With this, the device extended fully, and switched from sonar reading to a visual scanner, and looked in the direction of the unidentified source... And there it saw the drone. A swift scan took place after this, one that not even the most sophisticated computer systems would be able to detect...
With this, the camera thought in a primitive way for a few moments. It was a prototype device purposefully placed there- If it was found succesfull and efficient, than more of the so-dubbed "smart cameras" would be placed in pirate bases and planets, as well as other key areas... But, currently, this one was alone. After it had decided upon a course of action, the audio-speakers activated, as the camera locked on to the strange mechanoid that stood there... And with a simultaneous and reactive relay sent to a planet far away, the camera tested out one of its pre-recorded phrases... "Identification?" |

The Turret Sentry fell onto its side, one of its legs having fallen out from under it, as one of the side panels that concealed the mechanism's namesake turrets flung itself open. Undoubtedly, had GLaDOS been in its normal housing, it would have opened a door, or turned on a speaker. However, it took a few tries on the part of the sentinent program to successfully identify how to activate to 'voice' of the turret. "Greetings. I am the Aperture Science Genetic Lifeform and Disc Operating System. Normally, this is where testing would begin, but this is not the Aperture Science Testing Center, nor are you an aproved test subject." Ack! That high pitched, childish voice! Was that really her voice? Well, of course not, it didn't have a voice, but still, it wasn't pleasant to hear her words coming out in that glass-shattering pitch.. GLaDOS managed to get the turret back on its legs by opening one of its doors, and putting the leg that had fallen out from under it back where it should have been. Having managed that, the AI began to make notes on the mechanical being before it. The AI in that thing - For that is certainly an AI - Would seem to be underdeveloped... Even by the standards of Black Mesa. Conclusion #1) This is Combine/Other Alien technology. Conclusion #2.) This an independent creation. It is too well built to be independent, and too passive for the Combine. Therefore, it must be tecnology created by another entity entirely. "And who do you represent?" |

A few minutes passed as the camera device clipped and edited its pre-recorded audio samples, in an attempt to answer the question. The words were obviously clipped and thrown together, as the tone and quality constantly changed throughout. At the very most, three words were obviously even from the same speech, let alone sentance. "This Prototype Codename 'Smart Camera' is property of Research and Devolpment of the Zebes branch of the Space Pirate Legion." With a few seconds delay, another message was sent, this one clear and crisp- A prerecorded message that did not need editing. "One or more Space Pirate Troopers are currently en route to this location, ETA variable. It is suggested that you remain in place until they arrive, otherwise lethal force may be applied." With this, no more was said, and the device merely observed GLaDOS, or at least the turrent she was currently encased in... |
