[Third]Mickey Murphy
Topic Started: Dec 27 2008, 11:59 PM (37 Views)
Mickey Murphy
Name: Mickey Murphy
Age: 24
Class: Third Class
Hometown: Belfast, Ireland
Destination: New York, America (Mostly anywhere to be honest)
Appearance(written description please): Mickey is one of those guys who can't really dispute the fact that he is third class on the Aurora based upon his appearance. He is about six foot one with short leafy dirty blond hair including a beard that stretches from ear to ear and a mustache to complete the look.

He always seems to be wearing a small leather brown hat, even when he sleeps, pulling it over his eyes. His common attaire is long brown dress pants with a white long sleeve shirt that can either be complemented with a brown jacket or a grey vest. He also has brown dress shoes to go along with his pants, but everything he wears is pretty dirty all together.

His eyes are green and his his body is covered with various tatoos. He's fairly muscular though not large but any stretch of the imagination, just big enough to be a fairly athletic man.

Personality: The best way to sum up Mickey Murphy is odd. A very odd fellow. One of the reasons why is because he has a weird way of speaking. Its very fast yet it seems smooth like he's trying to get everything he has to say out all at once, but by using the smallest amount of effort as possible. Because of that many find it extremely hard to understand what he is saying.

Some attribute it to him being a boxer and getting clocked a few more years, but he would disagree, that is, if you could understand what he was saying. Besides that, he's a pretty lively person and actually pretty smart. Perhaps he's just very experienced with the world, but if there were anyone a person would want in a sticky situation, it would probably be Mick.

Coming from a poor family, Mickey is a pretty loyal person considering when he was a kid he had to stick with his friends if he wanted to be safe. If Mick thinks somebody is a good friend of his, he'll do practically anything for them. Sometimes this gets him into trouble, but he's got a good heart and the most important thing to him in the world is his family. If Mick takes a liking to somebody and gets close enough, he eventually begins to call them sis or bro.

Background:

Born in 1905, Mick was far too young for World War I. However, being an irish boy living in the 'working class' areas of Belfast, it wasn't long before he was watching his father being dragged into rebellion. Mick never saw his father again after that and his family naturally assumed he had been killed. Yet even with such a tragedy befalling the Murphy family, it almost seemed like it was no big deal. Like his father had simply been unlucky and they had no choice but to move on. And so they did.

Mick was working in a factory making shoes by the time he was eleven, trying to help provide for his mother, his two younger brothers and his baby sister. The hours would pass like the morning breeze, just a memory to barely graze the depths of his mind as he drifted away into sleep, his only reprieve from the pains of Ireland. It was a harsh world for a kid to grow up, but he grew up none the less.

At the age of eighteen, Mick found himself an easy way of making money. Well, it wasn't exactly easy, but it was much faster than making shoes all day. Boxing. Painful, but bountiful for even the the depths of economic crisis, people still wanted to see a good fight. They still wanted to see the limits of human endurance. They still wanted to see just how far a person could go. Mick frequently found himself fighting men far older than him and usually bigger as well. Through the constant demands of getting his face pounded in, Mick adapted. He grew stronger though not so much larger. Soon he was winning a few fights instead of just getting smacked down, and even knocked one man out with one punch.

By the time he was twenty four he was one of the best boxers in all of Belfast, if not already crowned the best. His family was finally being fed and they had a roof over their head that wasn't full of cracks for the rain to leak through, but it wasn't much, and all good things must come to an end.

Mickey found himself in a big fight, a fight against a man named George who was heavily favored to win. They told Mick that if he lost the fight, he would be paid more than he could imagine but if he won, he better leave town or they'd come after him. At first Mick allowed himself to get punished, but before he knew it his fist was striking George, and the man was unconscious, his face practically broken and requiring extensive medical help. Not only would George probably never fight again, but Mickey suddenly found himself on the run just because he didn't want to lose.

With only one option, Mickey was getting ready to board the Aurora, not only to find freedom, but hopefully to get himself a decent job, whether on the boat or in another country, and send money to a neglected and unfortunate family. The only question is, what is a man who can barely speak legibly really going to do?
