Just call me Adrian, or sir... that works too.

Photo of Adrian, circa 1941

Adrian before his tragic "death" in 1942, in the Russian offensive. Adrian's body obviously showed that he was in the military for a good portion of his life due to his athletic build. He had scars from many years, various nicks and scratches that simply come with the task of fighting on the field of battle. Adrian had brown hair that was always kept short, even in the times of peace in his life. His face always had a serious expression which can often be mistaken for anger, but was capable of a warm smile when he was telling a story or a joke, but apart from family and close friends most people never saw this side of him. Most of the time he has a rather disapproving stare as he's quick to correct mistakes of others. One thing that others used to comment about him is that his blue eyes were always looking for details, be it the expression on the person he's talking too, trying to find clues about their intentions or past, or his keen eye for detail that won him the many victories establishing his feared reputation in tiger tank 205.

Adrian, current state

Adrian's body is now a suit or combat armor that's been updated over the many years that he was stuck in it. At almost 8 feet tall he stands a full head and shoulders over most people. His entire body has significant bulk when compared to an augmented human. But the suit manages to squeeze it's way through most doorways, although he may need to duck. The suit has had only minor trouble maneuvering through indoors, seeing the suit was made to be able to fit through a modified tank hatch. While this suit might look large and unwieldy the Gepanzerte Infanterie armor can easily carry it's own weight. While Ligris may not be setting land speed records, most humans can outrun Ligris in the suit, one thing he has on his side is sheer stamina due to his body being powered by tireless hydraulics instead of muscle. His head looks like it is concealed beneath a helmet and heavy rebreather mask but it's actually a mechanical head that the suit can survive without, albeit Adrian would be rendered blind without it. One strange thing about these eyes is that they blink, once in awhile they'll go black and turn red again seemingly at random. It has been a design quirk present ever since the suit was created, modern engineers have been baffled by the issue and have considered it a minor priority in the mystery that is Ligris. What's left of his natural body has been entombed within the Gepanzerte Infanterie. Adrian had no way of possibly surviving outside the suit, his natural body now having become entirely reliant on it to stay alive. A detachable ammunition box fits onto his back, meant to feel into his machine gun but can be removed. The modular system meant for other weapon load outs that were in design for the suits, none but the machine gun ammunition bins surviving allied bombing before the end of world war II. Modifications have been made to the suit to help compensate for other load outs. Steel loops allow for extra stowage to be carried on Ligris, and ammunition bandoleers for larger rounds or grenades to be carried on him.

Adrian literally can't dress anything other than his metal body, sometimes changing the camouflage scheme for longer term engagements. There is only one piece of clothing that he does actually own, it's an oversize and oddly trench coat that is in a similar style to a German officer's coat. The coat was tailored to his suit, he no longer wears the epaulets and symbols of his former unit, the red armband adorned with a swastika that went with it was burned a decades ago. The coat was the one issued to him just to look more formal during ceremonies, but he has a habit of wearing it when in the Spectre Facility that represents his home. Adrian wears it at times, although it's rarely present if he feels that the coat will cause people to ask him about the history behind that jacket. When something formal is required, he usually will don the numerous campaign medals that he has earned over his life.

Face Claim: N/A
Personality: Ligris is a soldier, mind, body and spirit. He's a man who discipline is a seemingly genetic trait. A man of habit and schedule he is often found in the same places, during the same days at the same times and does his best to stick to the rigid schedule he has formed. He is a man who strives to stay busy, and downtime during his day is next to nonexistant. Adrian has little tolerance for incompetence or laziness more often than not voicing his displeasure. When in battle he stays completely focused on the task at hand, becoming a fighter mind and body. It would seem that war is all he knows.

Amongst those he is considered friends Ligris is the exact opposite of the roaring drillsergeant. Some people would regard him as soft spoken if it wasn’t for the metallic ring to his voice. A more gentle side of this man then many people see. But when not in combat he's a different man, even before a soldier Adrian is a gentleman.. When not in battle manners are prevalent and he still believes in a almost knightly code of chivalry, something he refuses to give up. The nature of his suit ensures that the years have passed with a disconnect, he can only watch the world age without him through news reports, and what his fellow agents tell him.

Adrian is sort of a collector of sorts. Most of his things are kept in presine condition, especially things that he deems very valuable to him. For example his Luger that he was issued during the first world war is kept obsessively clean and well maintained seeing it as his heirloom. As a man with wealth from decades of an officer's salary can't go out to spend it himself, he often anonymously hires buyers to help add to his collection. His most prized possessions are ones that remind him of his wife, these are both a picture of him and his wife in a cracked frame, he listens to it at times using the very old gramophone, Ligris managing to keep it working through the years. Amongst his collection of records, mostly classical music, he still has many of the record given to him by his wife before he left for the Russian front, While he is often very protective of most of his things, the record is his most prized possessions, Ligris forbidding others to even touch it.

Ligris is a man whose history continues to define him, and there are many things that the dramatic change of his death brought, and still haunt him to this day. The one that he's most likely to divulge is the things he misses, something as simple as tasting the food he eats rather than the nutrient cocktail straight injected straight into his body. Ligris used to be a smoker, during the war he was one step short of a chain smoker, when under extreme stress he can still get cravings to smoke, but in the suit there is no hope that he could possibly satisfy that craving. Some scientists even theorise that the nicotine in his fragile system would kill him, but even that has yet to completely silence his grumbling. However there are other things, guilt at what he once fought, and ultimately was be willing to die for has yet to have been settled, him having been a diehard nazi still not completely settled. Ligris will take extreme offense to someone accuses him of being a nazi. He has his reasons for why he bought into it, and will have no qualms making sure someone knows why he quickly abandoned any loyalties to it once he learned the truth.

Despite the hard exterior and robot appearance, Ligris is very much human. During the entirety of his life Ligris has been afraid of heights and still is, often experiencing vertigo at extreme heights and even only a few story's up he'll be uncomfortable. It goes without saying that he refuses to sit next to windows when flying, no matter how nice the view is. A second fear that developed as he got accustomed to life in the armored suit is what his true body has become. He has one request that if the sarcophagus within his suit is ever to be opened, he never wants to see his natural body. This is either from some fear of what he might look like in his artificially extended life or if he just wants to see the suit instead of the mangled body that he left.

Powers The Gepanzerte Infanterie suit was not only made to keep it's user alive but also allow the suit to serve in frontline combat. The heavily armored battle armor can take rounds that would fell a lesser man several times over. While the original model was simply built with steel armored plates more in common with a tank's armor then body armor. But the Gepanzerte Infanterie suit has been updated over the years with technology that Spectre's been able to get it's hands on. The suit now boasts kelvar coverings over it's mechanical joints and lighter weight and stronger materials then it's original wwII model which have allowed Ligris to move faster and be even more difficult to kill. The protection of the suit is more akin to an armored vehicle, shrugging off small arms fire without any trouble. The suit grants him inhuman strength due to the hydraulics that power his limbs instead of human muscle and bone. Adrian can fire most man portable weapons without suffering the recoil, smash doors to splinters with a well placed shoulder charge, or smash a man to the ground with a blow from his steel fists. Due to the suit not having feeling Ligris will continue to fight until disabled beyond his capability to fight. While the Gepanzerte Infanterie suit might possess heavy armor and allow him to glance off most small arms fire, almost any damage to the internal systems could disable systems needed for him to function, limbs shutting down the worse case scenario is an essential life support system. Ligris's true body is extremely fragile, unable to life without the extensive web of life support keeping him alive. Any damage to it, or the power unit and his body will quickly die. However the suit is unable to survive out on its own for unlimited time, only able to work on it's own for approximately 2 days before having to go to emergency power, in which the suit will shut down all systems not essential for Ligris to survive, Ligris can run for 2 days on emergency power until the life support will be compromised. It goes without saying that Ligris is often tethered to some electrical system within spectre when he's off duty, or often hooked up to the battery system of whatever transport he is currently in.

The suit isn't a perfect recreation of the body he once had. There are several senses that he lacks, as well as not having had tasted anything in several decades his metal shell is completely numb. He has no sense of feeling but instead mechanical readouts telling him of damage to systems within his suit. He has a sense of smell, although it being one of the mysteries of his armor it has never been improved and is very weak. Recent improvements have removed the heavy static grain from his original mechanical eyes, as well as his hearing. Despite looking like a robot on the outside, Ligris is human, albeit in a metal shell. He needs to sleep, he needs to eat, and he needs to breathe.

Preferred Weapon(s)

Rheinmetall MG3: This medium machinegun is more like an assault rifle in Ligris's hands. Belt feeds into a large capacity storage unit that fits into his back, designed for the original mg42 but has since been modified to fit the NATO cartridge used by the MG3. This is Ligris’s primary weapon, the suit he is entombed in was designed to easily shoulder a mg42 machinegun. So it’s more modernised incarnation is still befitting to Adrian. Ligris carries assault drums, as well as belts of ammunition in his back mounted supply. Why the suit is capable of feeding the machine gun from a constant ammo supply barrel overheating still becomes an issue.

Luger P08 pistol: the iconic german pistol of world war 1 and 2, it looks like a childs toy in Ligris’s hands. But this is the weapon he was issued in world war 1, and survived his death in world war 2. He still keeps it on him, perfectly maintained, although he rarely uses it in combat due to the lack of stopping power and the abundance of ammunition provided by his backpack belt feed.

China Lake Grenade Launcher; A more recent addition to Ligris’s arsenal. The China Lake grenade launcher is easy to use and carry with Ligris’s strength. Although Spectre issued Ligris the weapon in order to fufill a close combat role. Ligris makes use of 40mm buckshot or flechette rounds, turning the weapon into a oversized shotgun with the hitting power to bring down some of the larger targets a Spectre agent might face.

Equipment: Ligris often carries material depending on the mission, the missions he often are sent on do not require under cover work, and so most of the time he's carrying equipment for warfare. While Ligris is hardly a brainless brute he's far from an experienced investigator, and spectre doesn't overlook his obvious advantages of sheer strength and toughness. Something he will always take into battle with him is the equipment necessary to do field repairs to his suit, while he's far from an experienced technical, and won't be reattaching limbs, it can keep him alive and fighting.
Skills: Extensive combat experience, both in a tank and on foot, often called in when raw fighting strength is called for. As well as this he has his own personal experience as a mechanic and a repair man, but doesn't have the extensive knowledge to repair advanced pieces of technology such as himself apart from basic patch work. Ligris also has experience in demolitions and is often used when such work is necessary for a mission.
History: Adrian Ligris was the son of a simple factory worker in preworld war I Germany. While Adrian's father toiled away in the factories Adrian took little interest in his schooling, instead being more interested in fixing up his dad's truck, and after he turned that pile of metal only suitable for the scrapyard into a functional vehicle he often found others that would need fixing. As a young man he was able to make a modest amount of money as a mechanic. If Adrian found some new device or feature within a vehicle then he'd simply learn by trail and error, his natural curiosity and patience keeping back frustration.

1914, outbreak of the first world war, Adrian was eager to fight for his country, establishing Germany as the dominant empire within Europe was a message that the 14 year old patriot quickly got swept up in. a 14 year old Adrian was desperate to join in the war, but he was much too young to actually be fighting in the trenches of world war I. Traveling to more then one town to try and enlist, just to get turned down again and again. But when he was 16 Adrian was able to fake his papers, and lying about his age, managed to join the military. he quickly proved his skills as a mechanic, an act that most likely saved his life. Instead of getting put into the infantry for the meat grinder charges of world war I, Adrian was instead assigned as a mechanic in an A7V tank. The tank was noisy, unwieldy, and the roar of the cannons and shells ringing off of it's armor like a massive bell were deafening. But to Adrian, fighting for his country was his purpose, he knew that this metal gunbeast would change warfare. Adrian was there on April 24th when there was the first battle of tanks took place, and lived to tell the tale.

November 11th 1918, Armistice day, a truce was declared and eventually Germany's army was disbanded. Despite jobs being few and far between in Germany at the time he managed to get a job in a machineshop due to family ties to the owner and experience on his part. Adrian managed to eek out an existence and he caught the eye of the secretary of the factory owner. Adrian received many notes and eventually a relationship bloomed from lunch breaks and after work dates. Her name was Scheherazade Bartholomew, and by 1925 she was Adrian's wife. While their life was rather humble political uprisings in Germany started to become more and more common, from something that was merely heard on the radio to people rioting in the streets. Adolf Hitler eventually rose to power, and part of his plan was not only to overhaul Germany's economy, but make it a military power yet again. Adrian was still a rather young man, and his experience with tanks made him immediately recruited into the newly formed Wehrmacht's panzer regiments as a field officer in command of his own Panzer. Adrian quickly received plenty of money, Adrian was finally able to give his wife the life that he felt that she always deserved. There was a moment of peace, the time where the Rhineland was being annexed, and where the panzers weren't in full use except for military parades to show the third Reich's new war machine. He quickly joined the newly formed Wehrmact, being denied from the SS due to a tooth filling, but his military salary was more then enough to give Scheherazade the life he felt she deserved. He was inspired by the rise of the Germans from the ashes of world war I. But at that time who in Germany couldn't, Hitler brought the country up from an economic mess to a military strength. His message of Lebensraum, living space and the return of the mighty German empire was a message that appealed to a veteran of the first world like Adrian, and like many other Germans at that time... he supported the Nazi party and was willing to give his life for his country.

During the second war Ligris was promoted to a commander, after extensive training in panzer warfare. Adrian took to it quickly, and proved to be a natural. He was a crack shot with the cannon of his tank, and studied extensively to learn not only the capabilities of his vehicle, but also the ones of his enemies, and the tactics of Rommel and other legends in his warfare. Adrian was easily able to pick out weak points and was cunning accurate with his cannon, picking off weak points for quick kills. Adrian's natural disciplines was easily carried over to his crew, Ligris making them finest drilled crews in the entire division and arguably in the entire Wehrmacht, in no time at all he soared through the ranks, being in command of a the new Tiger tank during the opening moments of Operation Barbarossa. Just before Adrian left off for the Ozfront he was given a gift by his wife. a vinyl record of Beethoven's moonlight sonata, a record that he still keeps to this day. Adrian sent off in 1942, on the Russian front his regiment was a spearhead, he fought toe to toe with Russian tanks, earning kill after kill and quickly earning the title of a Panzer Ace. Adrian was a feared ace, his special marking that is now adorned upon his armor, a mark appearing like a wolf's skull and two hatchets, and was a feared marking for an enemy tank crew to see in their scopes.

It was during a rather lite skirmish, mainly infantry and light tanks versus German elite grenadiers and Adrian's Tiger. The mission was a take a small Russian town that was defended by the forces and was expected to be smashed through with minimal losses. Adrian was in the midst of the city, tight alleyways forming numerous choke points for ambushes, but he merely heard the inferior anti tank rifles of the Russian soldiers ringing off the hulls in a sound like rainwater patting on steel. The light tanks of the Russian opposition were smashed aside. When a Russian STU-100 tank destroyer joined the skirmish it was able to draw a bead upon Adrian's tank before it could fire back, the armor piercing round blowing the turret apart. Adrian, through some sick miracle actually survived the explosion and the hail of white hot shrapnel, having been thrown outside of his tank. Adrian had no lower left arm, and his entire lower body was now a scotched stub. A rapidly bleeding Adrian saw the flaming wreck of his tank, the turret a flaming wreck, his crew killed instantly. Adrian expected to die in pain, but he felt a field medic grab his one remaining arm and through the ringing of his ears heard his frenzied shouts of "he's alive he's alive" and he started to drag Adrian away. Adrian's gramophone, for some reason was still playing despite the explosion and the flames... the last thing he heard before everything went black for him was the shouts of the of the medic for more morphine to ease his pain before he died and the sweet sound of Beethoven's moonlight sonata.

Adrian awoke with a electrical shock, no pain, no horrid smell of his own scorched flesh. When he tried to move his limbs they were there, as if he was completely healed, but then he noticed the static filling his vision, and the numbness in his new limbs. His voice was rough, scratchy, like a radio transmission. Apparently Adrian's injuries did not kill him Ligris miraculously surviving, instead he was a prime candidate for the hidden program of the Gepanzerte Infanterie, an attempt by the Nazi's to literally cheat death. Adrian was only one of three Gepanzerte Infanterie suits that were activated during the war, very few men actually able to survive the injuries that warranted the suits. There were attempts to remove limbs surgically but none of those candidates survived. Through this miracle of technology Adrian could continue to serve the war, but for secrecy he was declared KIA and was only allowed to fight with a very loyal crew that was sworn to secrecy. The Mark 1 suit was crude in terms of what he had to work with, Adrian could only function 2 hours on his own, being hooked up to a generator, such as at a base, or even inside his tank. If he were to run out of power he had 2 more hours of emergency power in which all systems shut down except for those that were essential to keep Ligris alive. Adrian was the only suit that was given to a panzer crewman, and the other two were never far from their accompanying half track in order to carry them around and also recharge their power. But the benefits were obvious, compared to the weapons of the war the Gepanzerte Infanterie suits were nigh unstoppable, deflecting bullets with their metal bodies and near invulnerable to small arms fire and requiring anti tank weapons to stop them. One notable after action report, during the liberation of Caen, describes the death of the only infantry suit to be killed in action. Only after, one bazooka shot, dozens of clips of Thompson ammunition, and an armor piercing round from a accompanying Sherman tank did the suit finally fall. The suit was unable to be salvaged for study which kept the automaton shrouded in mystery. Even after it's apparent death, the suit was drenched in flamethrower for sheer fear that the suit would somehow reactivate to kill again.

As well as a new body Adrian was also the commander a brand new King tiger tank, he was in command of one of the most fearsome vehicles of the second world war, a dreaded sight to allied forces. Due to secrecy he was isolated from other soldiers should a spy be amongst their ranks, and he was forbidden to contact anyone from his past life. Adrian was transferred to the Afrika korps, as major tank battles marked the deserts, however the crews only saw the decorated tank, not the automaton crewing it. Adrian was a weapon of propaganda as well as a soldier, he was a symbol that the Reich could not only defeat their foes in battle... but now defeat death itself. But it was under his tent inside a camp that he received the letter that Scheherazade, his beloved wife, had passed away mere days ago. After Adrian was pronounced KIA, and she received her letter Scheherazade lived out a fear that she had been dreading since he left, the loss of her husband. Apparently she had fallen into a deep depression, shunning the company of friends and family since the news, and she had taken her own life.

Adrian was inconsolable, the glimmer of hope of him returning to his wife now gone. He burst into violence oce he was denied the right to attend his wife's funeral. But his protests were falling on deaf ears, he was classified equipment, the Gepanzerte Infanterie suit was was not allowed to be seen outside approved military personnel. The war continued, Army plotters and their civilian allies became convinced that Hitler must be assassinated so that a government acceptable to the western Allies could be formed and a separate peace negotiated in time to prevent a Soviet invasion of Germany. Adrian knew that Hitler was devoting massive resources to the completion of the final solution, and it was obvious that it a madman in control of a country, not the glorious leader that he would have once died for. Adrian was transferred back to Germany, his skills and vehicle were being devoted to the final defense of Germany from both the Russians and inevitably the Allies in the west. Adrian was actually on the same train as the infamous Count Claus von Stauffenberg, them both sharing the notion of Hitler must be killed to save what was left of Germany. He had his minor part to play in the July 20th plot to assassinate Hitler, and use Operation Valkyrie to seize control of the country and end this hopeless war. Adrian was essential to planning, but his condition limiting his part in the actual execution of the operation, however there were several essential guards that were called away by the famed Ace the generator requiring several men to haul around for him. Unfortunately the plan was a failure, but the hatred for the nazi regime still burned within Ligris.

8 May 1945, VE day and the end of the war for Adrian. Lucky for him he was taken by the Allies, Hitler committing suicide mere weeks earlier, to Ligris an act of cowardice by a man unwilling to pay his due for his sins. During patrols in a now ruined Germany, a squad of American soldiers eventually stumbled upon one of the few King tigers that survived the war. It was just sitting in the middle of a city, no scratches, a full combat load, but just sitting there deserted with the engine. Out of the hatch heavy duty electrical cable ran through a building and eventually into a graveyard. In the open field of the graveyard there was a small pillar of smoke deep in the graveyward. Following it eventually on the wind they heard Behtoven's Moonlight Sonata being played on a vinyl record. The soldiers followed the wire to a grieving Adrian, his massive metal frame was kneeling in front of a grave, with a gramophone playing right next to him playing the record that his wife had bought him recovering it from his home, apparently it had been nearly untouched by the war. There was a sound from his mechanical voice box that was actually crying. He was in front of a grave marked "Scheherazade Rose Ligris" and the smoke was from the red swastika armband from his officer's trench coat atop of a pile of possessions adorned with nazi symbols. The soldiers walked right up to him and an unarmed Adrian never showed hostility, ignoring them in his grieving. The soldiers didn't quite know what to make out of the mourning mechanical monstrosity. Eventually he seemed to make peace with his late wife, and formally offered his surrender to the allied soldiers that had just silently watched him as he took in the death of his wife. Adrian has a photograph of the squad of American Rangers all huddled around him with all their signatures, the only other copy of this belongs to one of the Rangers with Adrian's, he sees the photo of sort of a peace treaty with the allies, for Adrian the second world war was now over.

Unlike many officers Adrian was spared any accusations of crimes, partially due to the fact that he wasn't SS, and had nothing to do with the genocide of the holocaust, and many suspect that because he was the last known piece of experimental, and nigh miraculous technology. Adrian was taken to the US, west Germany not safe enough from the looming threat of rapidly dissolving relations between the Allies and the Russians. Adrian was brought to spectre's base in fisher island, Adrian resided in there for the opening moments of the rebuilding of Germany to the beginning of the cold war. Adrian was the only known Gepanzerte Infanterie suit that survived the war, there being the one destroyed in action in Caen, as for the third and final suit it was never recovered, assumed destroyed when the facility the Gepanzerte Infanterie suits were developed in was bombed to dust. Adrian was only too happy to be able to remove the swastikas from his armor, but kept the symbol of his panzer crew, seeing it as a badge of honor. Allied scientists had been unable to crack the mystery that is Adrian, the technology to connect his ravaged body was years before it's time, yet here was the blinking metal man in front of them. Over the years they continued to improve Ligris as they could, adding better armor as more technolgy became available, he became less and less reliant on a generator tethered to him, in 1954 Ligris could see without the static, in 1972 he could see in the dark with the aid with a set of night vision lenses. Ligris has continued to serve with spectre, germany still not considered a safe place for such valuable technology. Ligris continues to fight, currently not suffering any effects of aging due to the suit keeping him alive for now. War is all Ligris knows, with spectre he is a secret amongst secrets, and there is little hope of him returning to the mansion he once had in germany. So far he only plans to continue serving until his over drugged mummy of a body finally decided that his time up and the gepanzerte Infanterie suit finally disappears from this earth once and for all.
