They just had to be mocking her.

Nina Riddhi circled the bottle in her hands. What was someone supposed to do with Nair? Honestly? Nair was hardly deadly, unless, like, she threw it in their eyes or something. Or made them swallow it. In most cases, it was irritating at the very worst. But as a weapon? Really?

A scowl came across her face as she inspected the bottle further.

And that wasn't all, either. They placed her in what appeared to be a beauty parlor. There were a bunch of mirrors, reflecting her all across the room. In front of them, a row of ball chairs sat. A fish tank sat to the side, and apparently they hadn't thought to remove the fish in case, you know, it got knocked over by some psycho. She knew why they decided to give her Nair and then put her in a beauty parlor. They thought it was hilarious. Like, oh hey, let's take the ex party girl who does kickboxing and throw her against some girly stuff! At least, that was her impression. Nina didn't mind the beauty stuff to be honest. It was just... not her thing beyond make-up, shaving and wearing something that shows a little skin, you know? But she knew they found it hilarious. Oh you bet.

Nina had been awake for several minutes now, long enough to finally figure out where she was and to search through her bag. She could remember how it started clearly: she was... "sick". She didn't like seeing the look of disappointment on her mama and papa's faces when they found out what had happened. It made her stomach crawl. The next morning, she had called in absent, not really going into detail why. But perhaps someone figured out why. Maybe.

After calling in, she had went back to sleep, only waking up at around noon to take a shower. Once she got out, dressed herself, and went downstairs to take a breather-

Well, those guys with the guns were down there. And Nina had panicked. A million possibilities went through her head. Maybe her papa snapped and called those teen detention camp people she had heard about. Maybe it was like that Liam Nelson movie she had seen where they kidnapped his daughter and he had to kill sex traders to find her. Overall, the "obvious" answer wasn't immediately that obvious to her, and...

Here she was.

Honestly, she would have taken the teen detention camp.

SOTF-TV. It was the talk of everyone. Nina didn't care for it. The one clip she saw had a snake getting killed, and that was enough for her. People could watch what they could watch, and that was fine with her. She couldn't stop them from doing it. In fact, she didn't care for it either way, come to think of it.

Nina reached up one hand to adjust the gold bandanna she had tied on her head, just before finding her "weapon". For some reason it had a badger on it. Nina didn't mind that. Badgers were cool. It was a minor plus in a land of negatives lately. Fall off the wagon, get picked for TV. Why did they decide to pick literally the middle of nowhere, anyways? Whitree wasn't THAT well-known.

After tossing the lotion bottle back in the bag, she stood up, her legs feeling like Jell-O. Nina was sure if that was the gas, her nervousness, or... well, withdrawal. But she had to stretch her legs a bit.

Though to be honest? She wasn't panicking as much as she thought she would. Maybe it's because she had some time to think things over, but she wasn't sure.

Nina lifted the bag. Her eyes laid back on the fish near the entrance, and out of curiosity she took a few steps forward. Goldfish. And nice ones, too. She couldn't help but notice that there was an automatic food dispenser placed on the tank. Well, at least they were fed. Though the fish could still be knocked over.

And then she almost hit herself. Priorities. Man, she had some good ones.

((Start: JR1 Saachi Nidal))

As soon as Saachi woke up, she began to search for what weapon she was given. The somewhat anti-climactic reveal of the Sock' em Boppers did nothing to dissuade her concerns. Her weapon was non-lethal and large, meaning it was going to be a bitch to carry around. She was almost tempted to just leave them alone, but the sheer size and thickness of them meant that they probably could be used as very minor fortification, should the need ever arise.

Saachi was in SOTF. She had accepted that. It would be nice to find a way out, but she seriously doubted that there would be. As much as she hated the game, what was the point in trying to rebel against it. She needed to play the game. She needed to be smart though. After all, who knows how the game would progress and putting a target on her back was just asking for death to knock on her door.

Checking the bandanna she had tied on her left arm, she took in a brilliant jade color alongside an image of a rhino. She lamented the bright color of the bandanna, but didn't dwell on it for too long. She'd just have to adjust herself around that.

She was so busy dealing with her items that she was oblivious to her surroundings for a moment. Looking around, the surroundings made her feel a little comfortable, but at the same time a sense of dread. She had been to the beauty parlor back at home with her friends. The feeling of familiarity caused her to be even more wary, not liking how she couldn't just completely disassociate the place where they had put her to back home.

Picking up the boppers in her hands, Saachi began to walk. She wanted to gauge her surroundings, make sure she had a good idea about where she was and the ways that people can move around inside. While she knew she could only stay here for so long, having foreknowledge could be the difference between escaping the area and getting caught and killed in an ambush.

Her movements eventually lead her to the entrance, where she saw a familiar sight. Her heart dropped as she recognized the girl in front of her. How couldn't she? Their families were pretty close after all. Nina. Since they were in the same year, she should've assumed that Nina would've been dragged into this game as well.

Saachi lamented her luck. She didn't want reminders of her life back at home. It would make it harder to do the things she needed to do later in the game. She knew she had to focus though, and not let the circumstances get in the way of her goal. In fact, maybe she could turn this into an advantage.

"Pay attention to your surroundings Nina. You're going to get killed if you don't." Saachi bluntly called out to her, using the voice she had gotten used to using for her when Nina did something stupid. She stood behind her, dropping the boppers to the floor and crossing her arms. Even though Nina was a friend, she didn't let her guard down. If she had a weapon and was hostile, she wanted to be ready to fight. She wasn't taking any chances.

Nina remembered having goldfish when she was younger. They never lasted too long, but they were nice. Their vibrant colors and curious temperaments were endearing. She heard that some could be tamed, and go right up to your hand if you put them in.

She was snapped out of her thoughts, however, by a voice. Nina felt herself jump and cry out, preparing for the worst. Her head swiftly moved about, before she realized that it wasn't a teenager. It sounded like someone slightly older, and like it came from... her?

The mentors? Nina remembered something like that.

Nina frowned. He- it sounded like a he- apparently didn't like her looking at the fish. Was she really that distracted? It felt weird, knowing that someone was watching them and commenting like this. Sure, people were watching to begin with, but they could talk to her.

It was so weird, she swore to god.

A second voice echoed the mentor, this time it wasn't coming from her. Also, it sounded more familiar. Familiar? Nina could recognize that blunt voice anywhere.

Alright, time to look at where that voice came from. It better not be Saachi with some kind of weapon. Fuck that if it was Saachi with some kind of weapon.

She slowly moved her head, expecting the worst, and-

A pair of Sock'em Boppers hit the floor.

Nina blinked, and tried not to laugh. Nair and Sock'em Boppers. That last one was only slightly better. Like, maybe you could smother someone with them, or punch them to death. Hey, it was a minor improvement, at least. The idea of Saachi having to fight with those things was still fucking hilarious, though.

She wasn't sure if Saachi was... well, psycho. Sure, they were friends, but you never know. Things seemed normal though, since she told her off about something, so maybe it was safe.

"Hey Saachi", she said, putting a smile on.

Her eyes laid on the boppers, and she almost let out a giggle.

"Is... is that your weapon?"

((Norma Jean Torkleson: Start))

Some people take bad news better than others. Some people just refuse to take bad news. There are even some for which their mind is so strongly hardwired against it that they can't process the especially terrible.

Norma Jean Torkleson was an optimist. She went so far as to ignore things that were clearly a problem, telling herself and others that things were fine. It was fine.

So when she was told that she would be on SOTF: TV, standing in the doorway in her purple dress ready for school, she couldn't handle it. Her eyes rolled backwards into her head leaving just blank white eyes the color of her blood-drained face. Her heart gave an extra hard pump. "But...." she whispered before she collapsed to the floor in a dead faint.

When she woke up she was in a dark room, seated in a chair reclining backwards. In an instant she was up, squeaking and flailing. At first she thought it might be a dentists' chair which would have been terrible. She blinked and her eye sight adjusted to the dark enough to tell it was a much more familiar object. It was a hair washing station. A crack in the door provided the only light, a thin strip of gold on the floor.

On that small section of tile was another strange object. She knelt down and felt for it, discovering it was some large stick with a pointy end. On her bag was a red scarf. Quickly, she tied it around her neck. It clashed awfully with her dress, but "would not be caught dead wearing it" suddenly meant something different. Norma wedged her fingers into the space between the door and the wall and pulled it back.

Quickly she retreated back into the darkness. While she hid behind the door she thought of the fighting games her brothers liked so much. She didn't like games that yelled at you, those things stressed her out. Norma felt like crying. She sniffled back a few tears and grabbed her bag and spear.

She burst out of the room and saw two semi-familiar faces.

"The Delinquent!" she blurted out, holding her weapon out at the girl. Her hold on the spear was shaky. The tip of the spear wobbled noticeably. Norma looked to the other person.

"And ummm.... Saachi," she said, trying to remember her actual name rather than the mental nick names she'd given people.

"You would think that they'd give something better, but then again, it's probably a stupid joke pulled by the producers." Saachi responded, not liking how Nina was almost giggling at the prospect of her weapon. Looking at Nina, she noticed the badger on her head. She was on a different team, meaning somewhere along the line, things were going to get brutal. That was for later. Right now, she was probably her best bet for an ally until she found out who her teammates were.

As she was about to say something, a random girl came out of nowhere from another room in the beauty parlor. It took a second for her to recognize her, but then she actually said something.

Oh boy, it's Norma-Jean. The vapid cheerleader that never shuts up and has such ridiculous expectations of boys that Saachi wondered how grounded in reality she actually was. Her eyes drifted down to the spear, that was wobbling profusely. Shit, why the hell did she not get a weapon like that? Instead, she was stuck with some stupid boxing glove-like things that were meant for kids.

Saachi's heart began to pump quickly, but she tried to steel her nerves with the situation presented for her. Norma-Jean had a weapon, she had none. Judging from what she had seen from Nina, she didn't have anything great either unless she was hiding a gun in her bag. She doubted this possibility however, so right now, they were severely lacking in firepower.

Norma-Jean was not confident though. In fact, she looked scared out of her mind. Clenching her fists hard, she looked over towards her and stared her down right in the eyes. She presented herself confidently, even know she had no right in doing so. While she could feel her breathing getting faster and the adrenaline urging her to run away, she stood her ground instead.

"Don't you even try to do anything stupid Norma-Jean." Saachi called out, voice monotone. She couldn't betray any of her feelings or else she risked losing any advantage she had in the first place. "I'm sure we can work together because if you don't, you're going to make your life very hard on the island."

She had to use her abilities to her advantage. Right now, she could compose herself and appear strong. Hopefully she could stop Norma-Jean from attacking. Down the line, she could even get that nice spear for herself. It was better than having the weapon she had currently, that's for sure.

(Genesis Bradley-Baker, GH1, start)

Sissy was not a happy camper as she stomped along the snow-covered side walk, a sneer etched into her features and her hands balled into tight fists. This was stupid. The whole thing. You'd have thought her mom and dad put in enough time with the Big Man to give her some kind of angelic Jesus-kiss immunity to bullshit like this, but evidently not. And it was cold. She hated being cold. Fucking piece of shit dick-snot son of a bitch-ass producers. If she could personally send each of their mothers a letter scolding them for not swallowing when they'd had the chance, you bet your ass she would. And then make her own piece of shit survival show with their mothers beating each other over the head with their walkers and running over one another with their scooters. Assholes.

Every so often, Sissy would pass by buildings and peek through the windows, just out of instinct. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, if anything at all. All she knew was that she was cold and miserable and she hated everyone and everything. She hated snow and the wind and this stupid resort town and her dumb team-- she was on the Golden Hyenas, if the bandana holding her ponytail in place was anything to go by. Animals, now, apparently. Maybe she'd live long enough to see what piece of crap theme next year would be. Food Pyramid maybe? Starring the Perwinkle Cumquats and Mauve Beansprouts.

She passed another window and took a quick glance inside and instinctively darted backwards when she saw three figures through the glass, pressing herself flat against the exterior wall. Allowing herself a moment to catch her breath, she glanced back in, just quick enough to see if she recognized any of them. Two of the girls had their backs to her, but the third was very visible. And the clouds parted and the snow melted and Jesus descended on a golden chariot with a box of pizza just for her, because it was her very best friend in the entire world. Just Norma and a giant spear and two other people that she really didn't give two shits about and, best of all, it didn't seem like Norma was in the least bit of trouble and that gave her an idea.

If there was one thing in the world that cheered Sissy up when she was this miserable, it was fucking with people. And, oh, what a better place to do it than this stupid game where everyone was just an emotional wreck. It'd be so easy.

“Heh heh heh,” She laughed softly to herself as she bent over and took a handful of snow, suppressing a shiver as she wiped it over her eyes to make it look like she'd been crying.

“Oooh, ho ho,” She practice-sobbed as she took her issues gun from her waist band and lifted it high into the air, covering one of her ears with her free hand as she fired off a single round into the sky before letting loose a high pitched scream.

She waited a few moments before shoving the gun back into her waistband, covering it with her jacket, and barreling through the door, her eyes red from copious rubbing and trails of melted snow glistening on her face, nearly knocking Saachi over in the process.

“S-S-S-Someone's sho-shooting! Help me! Y-You gotta help block th-the door!” She screamed in her best panicked tone, careful not to catch Norma's eye lest she start laughing and ruin it.

Oh boy. Saachi had that unimpressed look again. Nina stopped suppressing the giggle. Not out of letting it go, but out of it disappearing in her throat altogether. It was clear she didn't like her laughing about the draw. To be fair, Nina would not be amused if someone laughed about her killing people with Nair.

What's more, Nina noticed the green colored bandana on her arm. Okay, not on her team. Gah, how long would she have to search for them? Would she find anyone at all?

Oh, and speaking of unimpressed, Norma-Jean Torkelson just burst in.

Nina's face once more formed into a scowl. She felt tempted to scream "Pissy's lapdog!" back at her, but the spear told her not to. She remembered Norma. Oh boy, did she remember Norma. She trailed Sissy like a baby duck, and it was rare to see the two of them apart. And Sissy wasn't someone she liked very much on principle. There was a reason why the nickname for her inside her head was "Pissy". She was without a doubt a spoiled brat. It was as if her oh-so-important father gave her the right to just throw bullshit everywhere without a care in the world. Pissy's behavior wasn't a secret to anyone at all. Word traveled fast at school, and it was rare to hear her come up in conversation without some sort of terrible, attention-whoring thing she did coming up. In short, Pissy was exactly the sort of person Nina hated.

Sometimes, after she tried to turn her life around, she would wonder if that was how people saw her and her ex-friends. Just a bunch of troublemakers, just wasting their lives away by breaking every rule imaginable. It was like looking into the past, in a weird sort of way. It was only more motivation to make things better for herself.

Norma wasn't much better. She went along with everything Pissy did, eyes wide like a puppy. Even without Pissy, she was a pain. Pretty much every cheerleader stereotype in the book, no doubt. Never did she come off as having even an inkling of intelligence. What was the world that came up in counseling? "Enabler", that was it. Even though it was in reference to her... problem, Nina figured that it fit Norma's relationship with Pissy too. She not only let her get away with a whole ton of bullshit, not only encouraged it, but joined in. Like one of them wasn't bad enough.

It appeared she was in some kind of hysteria. Which would be bad enough, but she had a spear, and they were on the receiving end. Great. Only a few minutes in, and she was being threatened by Norma. Getting killed by her wasn't something she was looking forward to. In fact, it was high up on "Nina Riddhi's Shitty Ways To Go Out". Not just the fact that it was Norma, but because she imagined getting impaled by a spear wasn't fun. Not going to lie, she was scared of Norma. Panicked girls with spears were to be feared.

Nina looked towards the entrance, hearing Saachi trying to calm her down. Nina wanted to do the exact opposite: run the fuck out of there. Even a calm Norma wasn't something she wanted to deal with.

Unfortunately, after a loud cracking sound someone else burst in, and she felt her features twist further.

Just her luck Pissy would be here too.

She was screaming some bullshit about blocking the doors and people shooting. Nina raised an eyebrow. She didn't want to deal with either of them even if it were true. She would rather take her chances with shooty-person than them.

Nina began looking for a way out. There had to be another exit for them to escape from the dreadful duo. There just... had to be. She didn't even want to brush past Sissy.

Well. The way out was past Sissy.

If someone was shooting, she decided, she preferred dealing with them than Pissy and her disciple. At least they would have the decency of just killing her.

"Well ladies, it's been fun" she said, a tone of hostility in her voice. "But I'm fixing to leave. Saachi, coming?"

Nina walked towards the entrance, her fists tightly balled, her shoulders slouched. Nina didn't want to deal with this bullshit right now, not in SOTF, and especially not just after waking up. Maybe someplace calmer, and not filled with Normas and Sissies.

She slid past Sissy, and walked through the glass double doors, her feet stomping against the concrete.

And she was gone.

((Skipping to avoid inactivity))

Saachi kept her eyes on Norma, waiting for her to do something. How was she going to react? She wasn't really sure and frankly, she didn't want to stay around here for long. There was only so much composure she could hold for someone threatening her with a weapon before she started to freak out. The bitch was threatening to kill her and the best thing she had were the stupid sock'em boppers. Why did the producers think that it was a good idea to give her that?

She clenched her hands tightly, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. She didn't know how Norma would react and looking over at Nina, she saw her getting increasingly agitated. Thinking back, she remembered that she had not so nice things to say about Norma and doubted she liked being threatened by her. Did she really want to work with Norma?

Screams suddenly punctured the air as Saachi was almost tempted to turn her head, but she didn't want to lose her eyes on Norma. From the sounds of the voice though, it could only mean one thing. Sissy had joined the party. If she wasn't being threatened with death, she probably would've expressed more outward disappointment and bitterness. Sissy was special, and not in a good way. She and Norma were very good friends, with Norma being like a satellite to her. That was probably more than enough explanation for the personality traits Saachi saw in her.

She really didn't want to be here now. Any possibility of a stable alliance shattered at the appearance of Sissy. Norma was going to be much more loyal to Sissy than she would to her any day of the week. Even if they weren't on the same team, there was no doubt that the two would work together. Meaning that every single moment she spent with them would mean that she was dancing on a thin line between life and death. That was something she did not want to do.

Sissy claimed that there was people shooting her, but Saachi had not heard any gunshots. She had reason to be somewhat skeptical of her claims because if someone was shooting after her, if it was a short distance, they would have most definitely heard it from where they were. If the shooting occurred a long distance away, she doubted the person would be so persistent to follow Sissy all the way here. While she was annoying, Saachi did not think anyone was that desperate to kill her.

Therefore, as Saachi saw Nina leave, she quickly followed behind her. She didn't want to say anything, preferring not to waste her breath on the two girls. She didn't know where she was going, but she didn't want to deal with a girl with a spear and whatever the hell Sissy had. She made sure to leave quickly as well, leaving her sock'em boppers behind and not taking a single look backwards.

((Sorry about the long wait time between posts. It's been a weird week and a half))

Norma's eyes welled up. She jabbed the spear at Saachi as she spoke "Me do something stupid? For the smart girl you sure are dumb, you know!?" she squeaked. "This isn't even a freaking island! Haven't you ever watched The Bachelor? This is a resort in like, Oregon or Washington or something! I recognize it from the fantasy date they had on season 5 where Kristy and Matt came here for a spa day. Gosh, like, you didn't even learn anything useful did you!?"

There was a sudden noise and her friend Sissy was the door. Norma held the spear down, hugged it closely as she listened to what she was saying.

Was it for real? She wasn't sure. I might have been, but then again, this was Sissy. Norma looked around and noticed the other two leaving. She supposed it was for the best. The trouble maker girl certainly wasn't going to help and it seems like Saachi wasn't as smart as school made her out to be.

((CJ3 Asa Rosen continued from The Tides of March))

The walk to the salon had been a quiet and chilly stroll. The Eastwood poncho had provided some extra warmth, not a whole lot, but some. If anything, it did a good job of hiding his brush axe. If he and Dee ran into any trouble, he wanted to be able to quickly use it. He wasn't excited to kill, but he sure as hell didn't have any sympathy for anyone who would try to kill their way through the game. It was a necessary precaution.

He was getting close to the salon now. They could go in, find some hairspray, then find some things to light on fire. The salon probably had some other good materials to use as well. Scissors would be useful. There probably were some small razor blades as well. He could probably tape them to some door handles or railings if he needed to. There was plenty to find, but they had to search the place first.

Asa stopped before he could reach the salon door. He wanted to ensure Dee was still with him. He also wanted to make sure that they wouldn't be running into a powder keg.

"You ready to go in?" he asked, hoping Dee was behind him.

((Diana "Dee" Dixon continued from The Tides of March))
Good lord it was frosty outside. Asa had a bit more to go on in terms of warmth, but Dee was fit to freeze like a popsicle. As if the producers hadn’t gotten their fix of chuckles, Dee’s outfit wasn’t a smidge as useful as what Asa got. His poncho could shy off some of the windy chill. Dee’s “outfit” looked like a Daisy Duke stripper. The only thing worth was her straw cowgirl hat. At least that blocked out some of the painful glare of the bright, yet misleading, sun.

Dee had been quiet as they walked. Half because she was still racking her head over what to do with Asa, and half because her teeth were chattering like a jackhammer, making talking really damn hard. The walk was short, but the cold cut Dee to the core.

“Going in sure beats sitting on our frozen asses out here.” Dee hoped that they’d have the place to themselves, but it didn’t seem very likely. The resort was smaller than the producers had led on. Dee didn’t imagine she’d go five minutes without meeting a new face unless. . . unless the cast started to dwindle.

No time to dwell on that.

Dee took the charge, leading in. She adjusted the bandana wrapped around her ponytail one last time. Somewhere there were four people that were supposed to protect her. At least, they had more of an reason to than Asa did. It’d be peachy keen to have someone else on Dee’s side. But for now, she had Asa and their shared hate of those jackholes on the other side of the cameras.

There was a huge heap of irony being in this beauty salon. Everything about it reminded Dee of her mama. From the sick smell of nail polish, to the gaudy painting scheme that covered the walls. It looked a mix of pink sidewalk chalk and Pepto-Bismol. Pepto-Bismol was supposed to cure upset tummies. This time it was making Dee a heck nauseas.

Dee rounded the corner, holding onto her bag as a balancing force. It was heavy on her back. Not something she could easily run with. She hoped to God that no one else would be in there.

Blonde pigtails and the look of sheer dumbass. That could only be one familiar face at school. Norma-Jean. The girl liked to brag that she’d been named after one of the famous actresses back in the 1950’s. Apparently she was famous for being dumb too. Perhaps mama and papa Torkleson were onto something.

Of course, Norma-Jean wouldn’t be anywhere without her host. Sissy Bradley-Baker wasn’t much better. She was smarter than Norma-Jean, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t as full of hot air as a sack of farts. All high and holy. It left a bad taste in Dee’s mouth.

Dee was in direct sight now. There was no slithering back out of this like a rattlesnake. She’d charged right into two armed girls. It wasn’t fair that Sissy got a gun and Dee got jackshit. Maybe all that prayer did her a favor. I prayed that I wouldn’t run into nobody, she prayed for a gun. Damn it.

“H-hi girls. I reckon I’m lucky to run into some familiar faces here.” She wasn’t, probably.

But deep down, all you really want is love
The pure kind, we all dream of.
But we cannot escape the past,
So you and I will never last

Norma swung the spear to face the two new people who'd entered. Her chest heaved noticeably as she breathed and her eyes were wide.

"Can people just stop moving around for like 5 seconds or whatever?!" she screeched.

She began taking deep breathes and looked at the two newcomers. She turned to Sissy, looking at her questioningly.

"I know salons are girl magnets, but dang! This is crazy. This is bananas."

It didn't look like they were armed. It appeared at the moment that she and her friend had the upper hand over their classmates, not just these, but maybe in general. Diana was wearing some kind of cowboy hat. Norma put a hand on a nearby hair dryer for support. She looked pale and felt dizzy.

"Way to be a stereotype," she breathed out, concentrating hard on not passing out again or vomiting.

((Skipping to avoid inactivity))

Asa watched as Dee made her way into the salon. Part of him wanted to kick her for rushing in without at least checking if anyone was inside. Still, she wasn't gunned down immediately, so there was some relief in the fact that no trigger happy idiots were insie. At the same time, it sounded like Dee recognized the people inside the salon. Asa moved behind her and looked inside.

There were two girls inside. The screeching from the pigtailed girl told him exactly who these girls were. Asa was prepared to roll his eyes as the pigtailed girl spoke to the red head, but he needed to show some decorum if they were to get some hairspray. Clearly, these girls were of the vapid, appearance obsessed crowd that he despised. Considering Punky Brewster had no issues insulting Dee's appearance, he knew for a fact that he was probably not going to get along with these girls.

"I'm sorry, but isn't it more of a stereotype to dress like a cast member from Happy Days?" he asked the screeching girl.

Asa sighed.

"Look, we're just interested in getting some hairspray. We really couldn't give a shit about playing, so please let us do this without anyone earning a Darwin Award."

((Technically I'd go inactive on Sunday, but I won't be around then, so I'm gonna post now and skip Mimi, in order to avoid the penalty, too.))

Dee did a lot of stupid, impulsive crud back home. Like the time she’d gone into the woods and tried to eat a fist full of elderberries, only to regrettably find out she’d eaten their less agreeable cousin. Man, she was glued to the toilet more than a fly on horseshit. Everything stupid she’d done, even the things that Dee thought were the worst offenses in the past, failed to measure up to the sheer dumbassery of wandering into that beauty parlor.

Dee was unarmed, faced with two girls who were as keen on her as a vulture was keen on a crematorium. Norma showed Dee an icy welcome. Almost as icy as the walk there had been. Jesus.

“You reckon I chose my little ‘outfit?’ The hat is at least useful, the rest of what they gave me looks more like floss versus an actual pair of shorts.” Also, how was she allowed to yammer on about stereotypical? For damns sake, poor girl was about as deep as a knee high puddle. But Dee kept her tongue bit. Dee was using up her fair share of stupid today.

Thankfully Asa had her hide. He’d gone and quipped back at Norma-Jean in her stead. Dee’d tried to look like she wasn’t totally amused by his comment. She’d crack a grin if she hadn’t noticed the poor girl start to half topple over.

“Hey, Norma-Jean, you’re not looking too peachy.” Dee thought about heading over to the girl, but that damn lance was more intimidating that Dee wanted to admit. Oh, Sissy’s gun didn’t exactly make things more comfortable either. Still, despite the threat, Dee wasn’t that cold.

“You should drink some Gatorade or something.” If Asa was going to be the snarky one, Dee had to play sweeter. It wasn’t something that Dee was stranger to. Oh Auntie Emily, of course I want to hear about your trip to Mexico. No, of course hearing about Becky's ice skating doesn't make me want to brain myself with a horseshoe. Dee could deliver fresh bullshit and pretend it was roses.

“Like Asa said, we’re not here to cause a lick of trouble or nothing. We’re just scrounging for a few things. Hairspray would be nice to start with.” Dee paused, thinking if they could use anything else in this building. “Also we’d like a couple bottles of that acetone.”

Dee left the statement at that. They didn’t owe the girls an explanation, did they?
