Name: Joseph "Samoa Joe" Anoa'i Gender: Male Age: 17 Grade: 11th School: Patriot High Hobbies and Interests: Wrestling, kickboxing, competition, his culture, exceeding expectations. Appearance: Joe stands around 6'0" and weighs about 190 pounds. He has very tan skin, a combination of genetics and time spent in the sun. His body is well-muscled, thanks to a good workout regimen. His black dreadlocked hair is usually tied back, and his locks reach just past his shoulderblades. His face is quite chiseled, with thin cheekbones and a prominent jawline. His long legs are noticably muscular due to his kickboxing training. His arms are adorned with tribal tattoos stretching from the shoulder to the elbow. On Announcement Day, Joe was wearing a black tank top, brown cargo shorts, and brown sandals. His dreadlocks were tied back with a white hairband, and he was wearing his lucky sharktooth necklace. Biography: Joseph Anoa'i was born to Dwayne and Lisa Anoa'i, a couple of Samoan immigrants. Joe was always an energetic child, and his early life consisted primarily of him running around either in his backyard or at the local park. He always preferred outdoor play to indoor play because he was always so active. He was very happy when he was running around and having fun outdoors. Early on, Joe discovered a love of sports and competition. He was an athletically gifted child, and always performed well. Joe's favorite sport was always wrestling. Ever since he first saw a WWE show on TV, he was hooked. He would watch olympic-style wrestling as well as WWE-style wrestling because he was so entranced by the sport. He also branched out into kickboxing due to it's similarly combative nature. As soon as he was deemed old enough, his parents signed him up for wrestling lessons and kickboxing lessons. Joe studied the sports intently so that he may one day compete alongside the pros. Joe's life was not always so easy, however. His schoolmates often picked on him for his ethnicity, calling him "Un-American." Joe hated this, because he was very proud of who he was and where he came from. Joe's short temper usually caused him to lash out at his aggressors. Joe had a history of fighting in school, usually against the students that insulted his heritage. Eventually, he found a way to strike back against his attackers without getting in trouble. His way to get revenge was to beat them in sports. Joe used his athleticism to show up his aggressors in various athletic activities, especially wrestling. He loved to shatter their expectations of him, taking their boasts of being "real, superior Americans" and throwing it in their face after he beats them. In recent days, Joe has found his own place at Patriot High. He has a small group of friends, and routinely defends other minority students from bullying. He also became a member of the school wrestling team. At first the other wrestlers protested to having "someone like him" on the team, but the coach ignored their complaints. Joe's skills on the mat eventually caused some of his teammates to come around, but most of his teammates were still unhappy with him being on the team. He gained notoriety for performing the Manu Siva Tau, a Samoan war dance, before each match as an intimidation tactic. He gained the nickname "Samoa Joe" while on the team. Some used the name in jest, while some meant it as an insult. All in all, Joe is relatively comfortable with where he is right now, and is praying that his name doesn't get called on Announcement Day. Advantages: Joe is very physically fit. In addition, his skills in combat sports will allow him to perform very well in a close-range fight. He has a good chance of finding allies if he meets up with another member of the wrestling team. Disadvantages: Joe's short temper could lead to him starting fights that could easily be avoided. In addition, some classmates may be bitter about his standing up to them, and may be seeking revenge. Okay, a good start, but Joe is temporarily denied, pending a few changes. - First thing is that at his age, I don't believe Joe would be able to be getting those kinds of tattoos. Tattoos are hard to get, and at the age, I'm fairly sure that it wouldn't even be legal for him to get inked up. - You make minimal reference to Joe's relationship with his parents. Why were they so eager to sign him up to kickboxing and wrestling? As immigrants it's very likely they would have had a very tough time moving to America, why would they want him to learn combat disciplines when it's very likely fighting would lead to him getting into SERIOUS trouble, thanks to his ethnicity? This needs more elaboration. - There's little to nothing about the consequences levied at Joe for getting into fights. He'd be guaranteed to get in trouble for fighting, and the consequences on him would likely be a lot more severe once again due to the setting's inherent racism. Take a look at what happened to Marilyn (cheap plug) in V1 for an altercation that wasn't even her fault and understand that Joe would probably be getting suspended or possibly expelled for getting into fights, even at a young age. - Taunting others after winning would also be fairly likely to get him in trouble. It's not fair, but that's where the biases of the setting lie. - Why wouldn't the coach care about Joe's heritage? This needs to be clarified some more. It's okay if the coach himself is not as racist as most, but that needs to be more firmly established as opposed to just being a throwaway line. The teachers are rarely better than the students in this capacity. Defending from bullying would once again be interpreted as Joe being physically aggressive - so please elaborate more on precisely how he defends people from bullying. Does he just stand people off or does he intervene in a combative sense? - He would NOT get away with performing a Samoan dance before matches. That would be seen as Unamerican. - Samoa Joe as a nickname is a clear reference to the professional wrestler, I'd like you to remove that. Remember that it's 2025. - More weaknesses please. Short-temperedness and bitterness aren't really enough balance to fitness, substantial combat skills and potential allies. |

After some consideration, I'm not so oure that I could really play Joe to his full potential in the Program. I think that I'll put him on the shelf for now, and bring him back for another SOTF. So I'll be dropping Joe and starting fresh with a new character. If I think of a way to fix him, though, I might bring him back. |
