S.T.A.L.K.E.R. stands for "Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, Robber". STALKER is one of the best FPS games I've ever played. Going to rank this one up there with Half-Life and Far Cry. It took GSC nearly 10 years to create STALKER. Actually, it released too early. The game is way ahead of it's time much like Crysis was way ahead of it's time in graphics. STALKER is also way ahead of it's time with graphics and gameplay. After all, this is a FPS/RPG. How many FPS/RPG's have been created? Few and far between. Much of the content of the original STALKER had to be removed so they could release the game earlier. Only in newer STALKER games have they been implementing what they were trying to get in the original STALKER. There is a lot of graphics options in the games that are left unavailable to the user except via console/modifying the user.tlx. Things that give the game even better lighting than Crysis. Awesome motion blur that looks just like the motion blur from Crysis. About the only thing it lacks that Crysis has in graphics is the HD textures and HD models (there is the STALKER 2009 Complete mod that replaces the textures with better ones increases graphics and performance bugs). One because it's too much on the GPU/CPU and two is because the game wasn't optimized accordingly as there was no time. It's probably about as optimized as Crysis. Future versions of the game (STALKER Clear Sky which utilizes DX10 and more importantly DX10.1 for ATI GPU's, which is a prequel and STALKER Call of Pripyat which will be available in the coming months and is utilizing DX11 which is the sequel of Shadow of Chernobyl) bring more to the engine that they wanted but didn't have time or the money to place. 10 years is a long time and a huge cost of money. HL2 took 6 years and they spent 40 million $. STALKER has a great atmosphere to the game, and with the many mods out there that improve the graphics, improve the gameplay, improve the weapons to be realistic including ballistics, adding vehicles that were cut, adding new areas, weapons, and enemies that were cut, adding in the whole Faction Wars in freeplay which is once you've beat the game it continues forever. You join a faction and the factions battle for land. Of course graphics aren't everything. If you take Crysis's graphics away, would it still be a good game? Not so much. If you take the graphics away from STALKER the game is still wonderful due to gameplay which matters the most. I'm just going to say that the overpowered invisibility in Crysis made the game a little bit too easy and doesn't require too much strategy/thinking like Far Cry did. Far Cry is insanely hard lol, need to use a lot of strategy and thinking and proper use of stealth to survive. STALKER is done in much the same way as Far Cry only not as advanced as Far Cry was into the whole stealth thing. lol I love firing an MP5 which makes practically little to no sound in someones face instantly killing them leaving their allies confused as to where you are. If you miss their face though they tend to get a general idea of where you are and run off to tell everyone else that you are there. I sometimes feel that Crysis was merely like a tech demo of their awesome CryEngine 2 (now CryEngine 3 since devs want something that works on consoles mainly) to get other devs interested in buying licenses to use their engine to make games and mmorpg's. When the Far Cry mod comes out for CryEngine 2 it may the the one thing that makes me buy Crysis. lol Here is what Facepunch users say about Crysis versus STALKER: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=587705 |
