It'd been a while since Nathaniel had gone to a bar just for the sake of going to a bar. Lately he always had some kind of hidden agenda behind his actions, always planning something. Tonight was the first time he had nothing to do since.. he couldn't even remember how long. There were no jobs to be taken - not that he could really be bothered right now - and any people that might have been interested in 'hanging out' for the night were busy. A bar had been the only logical place to head to, and it was by pure chance that the Legless Frog happened to be that place. "Just a vodka, thanks," he said casually to the bartender, watching the live band across the room playing an unfamiliar tune. Nathaniel himself wasn't very musical, but he could appreciate it when others could really play. The band were alright, on their way up in the world.. Taking a sip of his drink once it arrived, he turned to examine the crowd. Just sitting here in one place was growing rather tiresome. Perhaps he ought to go seek out the company of another? He soon spotted a young woman sitting on her own at a table. Watching her for several moments he decided she didn't look as if she was waiting for anybody. "Waitress? Yes, could you go refill whatever that woman over there is drinking? Thank you." He sat back and watched as the waitress approached the woman, first letting her know that Nathaniel (who she referred to simply 'that man at the bar' and pointed him out) had bought her the drink, before proceeding to fill it up. |

Reyna was tired of sitting at home, alone, with nothing to do. Well technically it wasn't her home quite yet as it had been bought in the past for the Swan King and Queen to reside in, therefore, she had to proof legally that she was the Queen to at least put it in her name, at least half of it. But regardless of all the technical legal issues, she didn't want to sit there anymore, by herself. And for what? Absolutely nothing. Her parents couldn't just expect her to sit there night after night, by herself, waiting for the Swan King to finally make his appearance. It could be a couple of years instead of days! Well they probably did expect her too but there is no way she was doing so. They had another thing coming if they expected that. She needed to meet people. So Reyna, after some minor contemplation, found herself out and sitting in all places, a bar. One that was found below street level, or otherwise known, in the basement really. Her mother would be horrified. Her father at least would just shrug and say there was no harm in it as long as she was careful, which she was being. Even though she was sitting in a bar, she sat at a table, by herself, with a view to the room so she could see people coming and going. Nothing would get past her and no one would be able to approach her unawares. But at least this way she could be with other people and hopefully meet some. If not, the atmosphere wasn't bad and whereas the music the band was playing wasn't stuff she usually listened to, they weren't bad and she was enjoying listening to it. She sipped her Emerald Martini as she sat there, tapping her feet along with the beat of the drum. Just as she was about to signal the waitress so she had another drink ready by the time she was finished this one, the girl already came over with another drink in hand. Wow, she thought, they either watched you like hawks, which made the bird within her shudder at the thought of the predator, or they were just that good. No other explanation was feasible to her. That is until the waitress set down her drink with an explanation. Apparently a man just bought her a drink. Intriguing. That hasn't happened before to her. Of course, she's never really been out either where it could. Reyna looked over to where he sat, at the actual bar and couldn't help but think he was quite good looking. Dark hair, dark eyes and a nicely chiseled face. Exactly what she liked. It would be too much to hope that this would be the Swan King but she could dream, couldn't she? No harm in that. But now what? She was a little inexperienced to this since her parents, namely her mother, wouldn't allow her to date. So she did the first thing that came to mind. Reyna waved at the man. |

The woman seemed.. a little bit lost if that was plausible, and after several moments of staring waved in Nathaniel's direction. He smiled lightly, waving back. She was cute, blonde, seemed almost nervous to have received the drink. Hadn't she ever been to a bar before? He didn't doubt that it happened to her all the time.. Standing from his seat, he took his drink with him and walked to the woman's table. "I hope you weren't planning on leaving after that last drink," he said upon his arrival, now being able to get a better look at her features. She was better looking then he'd first noticed, and this was a sure plus. "This seat isn't taken, is it?" He waited for her to reply. |

Reyna held her breath. Was that the right response? She wasn't quite sure what to do. She supposed she should have got up and thanked the man. That would have been the polite thing to do. But she was never taught to be that forward. When it came to the romance, although it was suppose to be for the Swan King only, she had been taught that the guy was the forward one. Her mother probably would have said accepting the drink and then waving back was forward as it was. But then again, the reason why she was here was to stop living as her mother wanted her to live. Her mother talked as if they were living in the fifteenth century or something, not the new millennium. She didn't have to wait long as the guy, not even after a moment's pause after her wave, he waved back with a smile on his face. That was a nice touch, making him more handsome and it made her feel a lot more comfortable with him. Which yes, could technically not be a good thing but how was she to know. If that was the case, no one could trust anyone these days. The woman next door could be the next serial killer. High unlikely but in today's society, one just never knew. Suddenly he stood up, picked up his drink and approached her. As soon as he reached her table, the scent of wolf hit her and the bird inside her ruffled her feathers. His scent had been masked with all the stale air which had a combination of sweat, cigarette smoke and alcohol. It wasn't until he got close enough that the unique smell of the woods permeated her senses. But then if she hadn't caught his, who was to say that he didn't catch hers until now as well. So there was a good chance he didn't buy her this drink to eat her later. Then again, wolves did have a better sense of smell then most, if not all, other lycanthropes. “I hope you weren't planning on leaving after that last drink,” he asked when he reached her. “This seat isn't taken, is it?” He indicated the chair that was across from her. For a second, she just stared at it dumbly as if it was going to walk away on its own. Yeah, way to play the dumb blonde part there Reyna, she thought to herself. It seemed her swan had struck her mute for a minute but then she looked up at him with a bright smile. “No, by all means it isn't taken. Please join me if you wish too and thank-you for the drink. I can't believe how addicting this things can be. Then again, I'm such a lightweight when it comes to drinks that I wouldn't know one way or another if its the alcohol talking.” Okay, and now she was rambling. If it wasn't one thing, it was another with her. Reyna could only hope it didn't phase him and he still stayed. |

It was only when he got a little over half way to the table that Nathaniel realized the woman was a shapeshifter- prey. Ignoring his somewhat overexcited wolf, he continued on to take a seat by her, listening to her go on about.. well, nothing in particular to be honest. She rambled a little bit, but he didn't entirely mind. Listening to her speak was strangely amusing, almost a shame that she had to stop so soon. "Low tolerance?" He asked with a raised brow, taking a sip of his drink. Though he'd only been speaking to her for a total of.. about one minute, Nathaniel was already growing quite curious of this swan. She had a certain innocence about her; almost that little sisterly sort of quality that was just so hard to find in this day and age. It was comforting in a strange sense, but the possibility that he was judging her only by first appearances was very apparent, and could not be ignored. If he made an opinion on everybody based off of their first minute of speaking, he would be dead by now. It was a general rule not to judge by appearances-- a rule that applied not only to him, but to everybody. "So what're you doing here all alone, if I can ask? It isn't very safe for a pretty young thing like yourself to be so lonely in a crowded place like this.." A very convincingly friendly - if not flirtatious - grin slowly spread upon his lips. Was there anybody in this bar more 'unsafe' then him? There was no way to tell. At least he was a doctor. That had to count for something. |

“Low tolerance?” He asked after taking the seat across from her, with a raised brow. He took a sip of his drink as he waited for her answer. Yeah, Reyna supposed she had a low tolerance for alcohol, not really drinking too much of it before. She had the occasional glass of wine at her parents at dinner and at certain occasions, champagne but that would be the limit to her intake. When she came to The Legless Frog, a weird name for a bar, she looked over the drink menu...she actually had to look at it, to pick a drink that sounded appetizing to her. Luckily she chose a good one but one that like she said, could be addicting. “Yeah, a low tolerance sounds right. It's a good thing I took a cab.” “So what're you doing here all alone, if I can ask? It isn't very safe for a pretty young thing like yourself to be so lonely in a crowded place like this...” He gave her a wide grin, friendly and one she couldn't help but return. “Well now, I'm not alone now, am I?” Oh...my...God...that sounded so corny, like a pick-up line. This was definitely the alcohol talking as Reyna, in her normal brain function capacities would never say anything like that. It fact, in her mind, the part of her people usually see was cringing at her weird attempt at flirting. Anyone could tell she didn't get out much. “I just got bored sitting at home. Was tired of being alone and just sort of wanted to be where there were people. I ended up here of all places. What about you? Do you come here often?” Okay, so she should really stop talking. She's only had one drink and here she was, already talking like an idiot. But the sad part of it all was, she was actually enjoying herself. For the first time in a long time, she was having fun. Her mother would freak out and really, at the point, she didn't even care. She was tired of sitting at home, waiting, like an already dutiful wife when she wasn't a wife yet. She wanted to meet people and have friends. And that's what Reyna was doing. Even her Swan, not use to the alcohol, was starting to relax. Of course, this could be bad, however, right now, she wasn't totally thinking at that well. |

Good thing she took a cab, right. Would be a sure shame if she ended up crashing into another car on her way home.. all the news reporters would rush to the scene to inform the public of a shifter's drunk driving accident. And they would put so much emphasis on the fact that she was a shifter, especially with all the new laws being passed. It was disgusting. Maybe a little off topic.. but he had plenty of time to think while the woman rambled on. "No, you're not.." He agreed, somewhat glad that she was playing along with the banter. Was this swan really as innocent as she seemed? It was true that many people practiced the art of deception these days - himself among them - but she just didn't strike him as the lying or devious type. "Ahh I see, well, are you still bored?" Offering a slight smile, he took a sip at his drink before realizing it was empty. He'd have to go and get another soon.. "No, I wouldn't say very often.. Only on some occasions, or when I've got nothing on. I work at the local shifter hospital and tend to be on call at nights, so I don't actually get to spend much time at bars." He wasn't 100% on why, but mentioning that he was a doctor always seemed to earn Nathaniel just those few extra points when it came to women. They usually either thought it meant he was rich, or that he was some big do gooder who liked to save people.. The latter could only be so far from the truth, but about being rich, well.. His two jobs certainly paid well, there was no denying. ooc: D: brain fried during this post, sorry for any crappiness. Edited by Nathaniel Thyne, Dec 7 2008, 08:43 PM.

“No, you're not...” He said to her comment about not being alone anymore. Reyna was glad that he didn't take the cheesy line and use it as his excuse to leave. That would be just like her, to chase off a potential friend before they even got to the friend part. “Ahh I see, well, are you still bored?” He asked with a smile, before taking a sip of his drink. Or would have if he had any drink left. Apparently he finished it and didn't realize it. “No, I'm not bored now,” she said with a smile of her own. Maybe, as long as she stuck to just simple conversation, simple answers without the flirting, she wouldn't sound so idiotic. She picked up her own drink, now moving on to her second martini, the one he bought her and took a sip. This was going to have to be her last she thought to herself. If she was feeling too relaxed after one, there was no telling what this one was going to do to her. Hopefully not much more and she could just go home and sleep until noon tomorrow...or later. It's not like she had anything else to do. “No, I wouldn't say very often. Only on some occasions, or when I've got nothing on. I work at the local shifter hospital and tend to be on call at nights, so I don't actually get to spend much time at bars.” Oh, he was a doctor. Well then her mother couldn't complain all that much about making this particular friend. Sure he wasn't the Swan King, but if she made friends, she knew her mother liked her to make the ones that counted. At least she could say she met a doctor. That might make her mother happy after she found out about tonight. Although she might not be too thrilled about him being a wolf, or a male, but hey, she can't be all that picky. Well she could but Reyna wouldn't think about that for now. “Working nights better for you as opposed to working the day? What if you have to shift around the full moon?” She asked him, genuinely wondering. She knew some shifters could control their shifting to some degree but not around the full moon too much. “Granted you did say that you work at the shifter hospital, but on full moon nights, that wouldn't leave many there, would it?” Wow, Reyna was surprised, she was actually having lucid thoughts. Maybe she wasn't as affected by the alcohol as she thought. Maybe it was just the attention, she wasn't that accustomed to it, at least from strangers. Or it could be that he was a handsome guy. Maybe it was just a factor of all three but if she put her mind to it, she could actually think straight. (ooc: don't worry, it wasn't crappy...sorry if mine is...cold is still affecting me) |

Good to know that he was at least a little entertaining. He was quite surprised when she asked about his job - most women he met were too ignorant to even consider the full moon at a shifter hospital. They tended to forget about the fact that well, shifters shifted around that time. It happened to be one of their busiest nights of every month and most human doctors were on call when the day finally did come. Nathaniel wasn't sure exactly how useful he might be to patients in his wolf form.. probably not very. "I tend to switch things around a bit.. I usually get my shifts during the day but am on call for any emergencies in the evening. When it's close to the full moon the hospital tries to get the shifters all off during the night, and only usually allow those with great control to stick around anywhere near to the time of the full moon. Patients that are shifters tend to be a bit of a problem on full moons, too.. though we have plenty of human staff to make up for it all." Calling over a waitress, he ordered himself a refill for his drink before turning back to the blonde woman. "Like I said, contrary to popular belief there are plenty of humans who work at the hospital.." It was only just now that he realized he had no idea what this woman's name was, or vice versa. "Oh, I'm Nathaniel, by the way. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." |

I guess the humans working there know all about shifters and don't worry about it too much? Although now with the new president, that situation might be a little more tricky.” Reyna responded, with her thoughts going back to the meeting she had just a few days ago. Things were going to be harder on anyone, it didn't matter who you were. Even humans might have it difficult as far as working along side shifters, whether reported or not. If they know who they really were, then it was up to them to turn them in or not. It would put strain on some friendships. Of course, it wasn't going to be as hard on them as much as shifters, but it was change for everyone. Some forgot about that. As she sat there thinking about a couple of things, he called a waitress over, ordering himself another drink. The girl looked at her even though she had a full glass sitting in front of her and Reyna shook her head. This was going to be her last drink of the evening and she was going to take it slow, make it last and maybe it wouldn't go straight to her head like the first one did. “Oh, I'm Nathaniel, by the way. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Well that was silly, it only took them now to tell each other their names. Wow, her manners got bad when she drank alcohol. “Reyna, and likewise.” She said with a bright smile. “So tell me Nathaniel,” she started, testing out his name in her soft voice, “Are you part of the pack?” |

“Well that's good. I guess the humans working there know all about shifters and don't worry about it too much? Although now with the new president, that situation might be a little more tricky.” 'Tricky' was a bit of an understatement - Nathaniel hated those damn tags the president was trying to force upon all preternaturals. He himself had finally managed to find a way to remove his without it being detected by any officials, and once he perfected the method, planned to begin offering his services to others... assuming they could pay the price. "Yeah it is a little, though we manage well enough." Ignoring the waitress's strange look at hearing a small portion of their conversation, he took the drink from the woman and waited for her to leave. Reyna the swan. The title seemed to suit her; fit both her looks and personality. Her next question brought a very curious look to his face, though. Are you part of the pack? It was a peculiar question for somebody to be asking a wolf they'd just met. Wouldn't she assume that he was part of the pack already, just judging by the fact that he was a wolf? Unless she knew the Ulfric or some others that were part of the pack, and had somehow managed to memorize the scent of the Lupanar enough to realize if somebody had ever been there or not.. it was doubtful. He decided to pass it off as just curiosity on her part. After all, he'd been the one to approach her. The chances of the pack having hired her were extremely doubtful. He weighed his options. He could either lie, and possibly attract her suspicion if she could somehow tell he was a rogue, or he could tell the truth and put himself in danger. "I'm not, actually.. only just arrived in town a few weeks ago, all I've managed to do is get myself a job." He said truthfully, keeping the casual nature of the conversation. For all she knew he was planning to announce himself to the Ulfric in just a day's time. Of course, he wouldn't, but she didn't need to know that. |

As Reyna waited for Nathaniel to answer her question, she took a small sip of the full drink that was sitting in front of her. They really were good and she would love to have more but until she got use to the hard liquor, well without anything in her stomach, one or maybe two were going to have to be her limit. The last thing she wanted to do was do something crazy and embarrass herself. She was surprised she didn't do that yet here. Of course rambling and sounding like the typical dumb blonde might have already done that but she hoped not. Her question did bring a weird look to his face and she wondered if she overstepped her bounds. Was it not polite to ask if they were part of the pack? That wasn't covered in social etiquette 101 and so when it came to whether they were rogues or not, she wasn't sure how she was to go about finding out. Then again, being the peaceful one of the shifter groups, she wasn't too concerned about rogues. Not of her type anyway. There was safety in numbers and most swans would join the wedge. But rogues of other shifters weren't her concern either unless they were harming her flock. Then things might just get a little iffy. At least she could always claim she was direct about it and wasn't going to beat around the bush to find out. “I'm not, actually...only just arrived in town a few weeks ago, all I managed to do is get myself a job.” Well at least he was being honest. He could have easily lied saying that he was and she wouldn't have known the difference one way or another. She still didn't know if he was lying but then why would he lie about being in the pack. That made no sense so for now she would go on the fact that he was being honest with her. “Well then, welcome to Paris, France. I hope you've liked what you've seen so far?” She said in a questioning statement. “It takes some time to get use to, especially if you're coming from another country as opposed to just another city in France. But that's good that you got yourself a job at least. I'm assuming that you have a place to stay and you're not living on the streets or anything?” Reyna stopped herself from going on and wondered if she was starting to get too personal. It's not like he was a swan and she had to look out for him but at the same time, knowing that he was relatively new to the city brought out a somewhat protective nature she had. Not that she had to worry about protecting a wolf as she was pretty sure that Nathaniel could take care of himself. But at the same time, she didn't want anyone living on the streets or some flea bag motel. That wouldn't be pleasant for anyone. But she supposed it was none of her business really as it wasn't like she could invite him to stay on swan lands. Not that they were even hers yet at the moment anyhow. She would soon have to fix that. Taking another sip of her drink, she smiled at him and waited to see if her would answer. |

Was it just him, or was the bar slowly beginning to smell - and feel - worse and worse? Just the general air of the place seemed to be growing more unpleasant by the very second, and Nathaniel was finding it somewhat difficult to pay attention to anything for too long. Not his drink, the conversation or Reyna. Perhaps continuing their little chat outside would be preferred, somewhere where the air was considerably more clean, and fresh. His sips began to increase in length, the need to get out of the confined space that was the bar getting more and more urgent. Usually he didn't have any trouble at all in places like these, but unluckily, the swan had decided to sit at a table inconveniently placed right in the center of a group of smokers. Moving seats would've been enough to make the feeling subside, but he felt a little restless. The stretching his legs was in order. “Well then, welcome to Paris, France. I hope you've liked what you've seen so far? It takes some time to get use to, especially if you're coming from another country as opposed to just another city in France. But that's good that you got yourself a job at least. I'm assuming that you have a place to stay and you're not living on the streets or anything?” "Paris is.. unlike any other place I've been so far, I'll give it that. I've quite enjoyed my stay here, as of yet." It certainly offered plenty of work - for both of his occupations. He got underground work almost daily, and the hospital was more then suited to treat all the patients it received. "And don't worry, getting an apartment here was one of the first things I did." It was true; he'd been saving up to both buy and customize his two apartments so that they were actually livable before coming to Paris. Finishing his drink (he could scull something pretty damn fast when he wanted to), Nathaniel inhaled as shallowly as he could and stood from his seat. "Well, I think the smoke in here is going to suffocate me if I don't get out.. care to join me for a bit of a walk?" She wouldn't get the chance to finish off her drink if she did come along, but if she drank it fast enough now then at least it wouldn't be a waste. |

While her sense of smell wasn't as strong another shifter's, like the wolves for instance, she was beginning to pick up the growing smells of cigarette smoke in the nearby vicinity. Not to mention, notice the growing blue cloud of smoke that hung in the air, getting bigger and bigger by each passing minute. Not being used to the smoke, it was making her eyes slightly water and it was causing her throat to tickle. She coughed but politely covered her mouth, trying to hide it. "Paris is.. unlike any other place I've been so far, I'll give it that. I've quite enjoyed my stay here, as of yet. And don't worry, getting an apartment here was one of the first things I did.” “Yes it is, but I suppose I would be biased as I was born and raised here.” She said with a small smile. “I'm glad that you have a place. I would hate to see someone have no place to stay. But I suppose it's just the way I was raised.” She took a sip of her martini, trying to further get rid of the tickle in her drink. While she did this, he finished his beer, quite quickly actually and stood up from his chair. "Well, I think the smoke in here is going to suffocate me if I don't get out.. care to join me for a bit of a walk?" “That sounds like a good idea actually,” she said as she tried to hold back another cough, this time not to successful as she didn't take a drink of her drink. She coughed lightly as she stood up herself. She looked at the remnants of her drink and didn't think she would be able to finish all of it but she did take a big drink of it, the alcohol leaving a hot trail leading down her throat to her stomach. There was still some left but she did get the majority of it. She didn't want to finish it too fast or it would go straight to her head and she had no doubt, the big mouthful she just had, would, especially when mixed with the fresh air. “Let's go,” Reyna said as she put her glass down before pushing her chair in. |
