Who would've guessed that a hospital could be this big? It sure as hell didn't look it from the outside... and yet here Nathaniel was, lost, with no idea where he was or even where he was supposed to be going. Almost an hour ago, a helping doctor had told him that the patient he was meant to be checking up on was in room 14D in the East Wing of the hospital, 4th floor. He'd even given a few simple instructions on how to get there... Unfortunately the man had gotten distracted halfway through this instruction-giving and had failed to actually finish. Where did that leave Nathaniel, one might wonder? He had no idea. And frankly, walking around in circles (he could swear that he'd seen that same counter three times over now) was growing rather tiresome. With a heavy, if not somewhat defeated sigh, he decided that he'd wasted enough time wandering aimlessly and decided to finally do what he probably should have done quite a while ago. He decided to ask for directions. "Excuse me," he began, reaching out to pat the nearest doctor on the shoulder. As if calling out to them wasn't enough. He'd learned in the past few years that people generally thought contact like this very normal and had perfected the nature of touching another without having any actual reason behind it. Quite a useful little skill when it came to 'making friends'.. "I'd hate to bother you, but I seem to be lost.. I've only just been transferred to this hospital. Could you possibly help me locate the room 14D in the East Wing?" He waited patiently for the young woman to reply. |

At least there was one thing Emi could be glad about, and that was the fact that it was a reasonably quiet day today. She’d done her rounds rather quickly and had a little time to spare, so she’d managed to visit a couple of patients who weren’t on her list before taking a quick break in the staff room. She’d managed to avoid the ‘new doctor’, Chris Rennick, successfully for the past couple of days. Or maybe it was the other way around since it was already quite clear that she didnt’ put up with Ovid’s carelessness, or the Rex’s... whatever the hell it was the Rex did. She wasn’t sure he even knew himself. Right now though, she was leaning against a counter reading over a couple of charts and humming quietly until she felt a tap on the shoulder, and turned her head to see what seemed to be a new doctor at the hospital... ... A new doctor who looked, and smelled, incredibly familiar. It only took a few moments, but then her eyes widened slightly and a look of mild surprise crossed her features before she smirked at him while her eyes looked him up and down. Turning around, she leaned backward against the counter and folded her arms across her chest. “Well, if it isn’t... Leroy, was it? What in hell are you doing? You are the last person I thought I would find here... wearing a doctor’s lab coat no less?” Considering how she knew him, it seemed just a little bit strange. “You are not here to give me more work to do are you?” Though a surprise, it was also incredibly amusing considering the last time they’d met. But then, that was even before Emi had begun her own move into the medical industry – back when she was more commonly referred to as Goldilocks than her real name... back before her life was changed by a job she worked on with someone else. She knew very well that ‘Leroy’ had been an alias as well, but she played along anyway. Thinking on the room number and wing, she picked up her folder off the counter and went through it, smiling when she found what she was looking for, “I checked on that room just earlier.” She peered up at the male with a raised eyebrow and small amused smile, “Though you are far off course, this is the North Wing.” |

"Goldilocks?" What a very unexpected surprise. Nathaniel had almost forgotten the last time he'd seen this woman, it'd been years ago whilst working a particularly boring job. She'd made it interesting by taking a similar job, except against him. Body guard work could be fun sometimes, especially when it turned out that you were actually the target. Goldilocks here had been hired to kill the person he was supposedly meant to be guarding, ironically by the same supplier that had tipped Nathaniel off to the body work... turns out they were meant to off each other and save a lot of people some trouble. A lot of people died - none of them Goldilocks nor 'Leroy Jenkins', as he'd been known. As he was still known now on occasion. "No no, I had no idea you were here.. I do helping people now. Amazing, isn't it? Did a full 360 with my life." .. Or maybe not. He still killed people on a regular basis, but she didn't need to know that right now. Especially not if she was out of the business. "Well then, you've left me with a bit of spare time. I have to say.. you've grown up quite a bit from that teenager that I met all those years ago," he said with a smirk. He'd been in his early twenties when he'd first met Goldilocks, she being just a teen at the time. He vaguely remembered wondering what the hell a girl so... innocent looking could be doing with such a dangerous crowd, but he knew now not to judge by appearances. He was a perfect example. "Got any free time? I'm curious to hear about how you ended up going from Goldilocks to..." he paused for a short moment, leaning in slightly to read the name tag attached to her coat. "Doctor Deveraux." |

“Oui, the one and only.” Emi smirked at the sound of her old name being used – it was a rare occurrence these days, only a few people who’d known her from the old days still dared to call her that. In private. It was a name that was still occasionally synonymous with the Parisian underground, but only by a very secret few. They respected that she wanted to keep her home life separate from all of that. She didn’t need someone raiding her home or taking her daughter away from her. It was hard not to remember someone she’d been set up against one time though. That had certainly been an interesting time, and even after they’d taken care of a few ‘loose ends’, Nicca had still been pissed that she’d been targeted like that by a rival. Apparently the teen even back then had been enough of a problem for some to want to get rid of her. “I somehow find it hard to believe that you’ve completely turned around, mon cher.” Emily raised an eyebrow at the male, but then shook her head with a self-depreciating chuckle, “But then, many wouldn’t expect me to have either.” Not that she really had... completely. The comment about her having grown up pulled another sly grin from the woman, “Grown up and filled out, oui. Not the sweet little girl you remember?” She batted her eyelashes but nodded when he asked if she had some free time. “Certainly...” Her eyes alighted on his name tag and she tilted her head slightly, “... Doctor Thyne. Though I can only guess I reached my position much in the same way you did.” Turning, she bent right over the counter, reaching to place her folder back in a slot, before straightening and turning back to the other doctor, “Since I am rather caught up on all my duties for the moment, unless an emergency pops up, perhaps you could use a tour of the building. Heaven knows you need it.” |

"So maybe not.. completely.. but close enough. I save lives, what I do in my spare time isn't the business of anybody but those I choose to involve," he said, smirk fading to a grin. "I've got a right to have a bit of fun." "No, definitely not the girl I remember. Not a girl at all," Nathaniel commented - or complimented? - stepping back in the process so that he could fully admire her. She really had grown up. Women were so much more attractive then girls; he would never fully understand why pedophiles were the way the were. The appeal of innocence was there, he'd give them that... but physically, the body of a girl could never compare to an actual woman. "I would quite appreciate a tour of the building, thank you Ms. Deveraux." When they'd worked together, both Goldilocks and Nathaniel had refused to give absolutely any information that might lead to their capture by the police - real names included. Suddenly the information seemed so much less valuable. "Do you have a first name, or should I just call you Doctor?" |

Emi snorted and shook her head, “I didn’t think you would give up your ‘leisure’ activities so easily. Just don’t go giving us extra patients we do not need, okay?” She winked with a small smirk. There were some things that a person couldn’t really quit being once they’d started it. The kinds of business they’d both been in was one of those – you never really stopped, just... put it on hold for short periods of time every now and again. But you always went back. Raising her brows as the wolf stepped back in order to take in her appearance as a whole, Emily smirked slightly and held her arms out a little for a moment, before twirling slowly. Not that she didn’t have a few curves back in her late teens, but they were definitely well defined now since having a child. When she faced him again, she nodded down the corridor in a gesture for him to follow, and began to walk. “Well then, please allow me to show you around. We can stop by the staff room on the way and grab some coffee.” The blonde shrugged lightly as he asked what to call her and glanced at him with a raised brow, “Oui, you may call me Emily, or Emi.” Though a questioning gaze was sent back to him in response, “And what may I call you in return?” It wasn’t as though there was really much point in keeping secrets now, if they both had some kind of legal work where other people knew them anyway. Strolling down the corridor, she peeked into a couple of rooms as they went past while heading toward a lift, where she stopped and pressed the button. “So I’m guessing the years have at least been a little kind to you at least. I’ve personally had a few interesting times since the last time we met...” The elevator bell ‘pinged’ its stop and the doors opened, the cougar stepping inside. “Though, you may have guessed that already.” Leaning against the wall, Emi reached across and pressed the button for the first floor. The last time she’d met Nate, she’d still been human – which was probably the most surprising thing to have come across when they’d gone head to head. She’d already been slippery back then, before getting infected. |

"Not making any promises," he said with a shrug. There'd be patients whether she liked it or not, though there was no way for her to tell which might be his and which might not.. Perhaps he'd send in a couple, just for her. For the pure sake of seeing how good a doctor she was. "Coffee sounds likes an amazingly good idea.. Emi." After testing the name, Nate wasn't sure whether or not he thought it suit her. It sounded so.. strange, referring to the one he'd known as Goldilocks for so long as something so normal, but he could supposed he'd have to get used to it. Couldn't keep using her code name around a hospital, after all. "Nathaniel Thyme at your service, though most people call me Nate." Although he'd noticed beforehand, it was only when they began to walk toward the elevators that he truly began to pay some attention to her scent. It'd changed dramatically since they'd last met, going from human to something now very feline. He couldn't place exactly what, but she was definitely some kind of cat. "Mm, I can tell.." He waited until they were behind the closed doors of the elevator to lean in and take the scent in more deeply, but still couldn't pinpoint her species. "You're a kitty cat now, I see. What kind, if I can ask? I don't recognize the scent.." It was rare that he came across new breeds of shifters nowadays, having grown accustom to both treating and killing all sorts of people in his time. He had to wonder how long ago she'd been turned, and how she'd adapted to the change. How had it affected her abilities? Negatively or positively? It seemed he'd have to see how good she was at a whole lot more then simply being a doctor. |

Emi glanced at ‘Leroy’ from the corner of her eye with the ‘no promises’. She guessed they’d see soon enough, it wasn’t as though she was totally innocent herself. Wasn’t her fault if some stupid people got on her bad side occasionally. He seemed to test her name out for a moment before introducing himself, and the cougar studied him a moment while she decided if ‘Nathaniel’ or ‘Nate’ suited him. “Pleasure to remake your acquaintance Nate.” She smirked lightly at him before stepping in the lift. As soon as the doors closed, the wolf leaned in to take in her scent, and Emi raised her eyebrow curiously, though she didn’t move at all. It wasn’t as though she was a shy or jumpy type, and she wasn’t too worried about Nate while they were both on the job. “I am cougar. Rare to find anywhere outside the American continents, I know. I suppose I just got lucky.” Not really, the one who’d attacked her had been purposely sent to kill her and her unborn child at the time – though that was something she didn’t freely disclose to many people at all. Especially to those who’d known Nicca back in the old days, before the French mobster had ‘disappeared’. The feline shrugged nonchalantly as they rode the lift down, “I adjusted well,” Though she couldn’t help a cheeky grin just before they stopped at the floor they were going to, “Certainly helps with flexibility and endurance...” She teased lightly, and then stepped out as the doors opened, and began to walk in the direction of the cafeteria after having decided it was probably safer than staff room coffee. They could grab something to eat as well while strolling the corridors, “Hungry?” She glanced at him as she spoke while making a beeline for the counter. |

A cougar? He took the scent to memory as best he could, for later reference if it was needed. "I see," he nodded, not quite being able to help himself from wondering how - or when - she'd gotten infected. Was it just a random attack, or..? Oh well, it was irrelevant. He himself had no idea how he'd been infected, having been a wolf since the moment he first woke up. "Oh, I'm sure it does," he chuckled in response to the endurance and flexibility comment. Trust Golidlocks to mention something like that, of course. Not that he minded in the least. "I am actually," he said, only just noticing his craving for any kind of food. It'd been hours since he last ate, and although the food the hospital offered was just a little less then satisfactory it'd have to do. He placed his order upon arriving at the counter, waiting for Emi to do the same, before the two were waiting to be served. Once the person working the counter returned with their food, the man smiled brightly at Emily. "So how's the little kitten doing these days, hm? Haven't seen her around here in a while.." 'Little Kitten'? Nathaniel was thoroughly confused. He looked to Emi to see how she'd respond, deciding to save his questions for when they were walking again. She'd no doubt be expecting them after all. |

The blonde grinned at the agreement that the lycanthropy improved certain aspects of her life. The fact that her body had practically pulled itself back into peak physical condition after she’d given birth was a fine example. Of course, thinking about the more painful side of things with Nina having lycanthropy as well, it hadn’t been all sunshine and apples. There was a nod from Emi as Nate mentioned that he was hungry and so she waited until he’d ordered what he wanted before asking for a sandwich herself. It was a lot easier to eat while walking around, and besides, she tended to snack on and off during the day anyway. Considering she was a healer as well as a doctor, she had to eat more often just in case she was called for an emergency. She didn’t want to wear herself out. She smiled at Joshua as he served them, and then asked how the ‘little kitten’ was doing. “Oh, she is always good.” The blonde chuckled softly, “And as much as I know how much you love having her come entertain you all here, she does have school now, and she is doing very well. But I may ask Marcy to bring her in one day next week if you want to see her – they have a day off then.” Emilia hadn’t missed Nate watching her while she chatted with the cafeteria attendant, and expected there would be questions. Once they’d received their orders and she thanked Josh before turning away from the counter, she pulled a photo from an inside pocket of her lab coat and handed it across, “The ‘little kitten’ is my daughter, Nina.” She smiled and shrugged lightly, “I did mention life has been interesting.” |

A daughter. Nathaniel's eyes widened visibly - that had certainly been.. unexpected. He'd never imagined somebody like Goldilocks settling down to have a kid. It certainly explained her 'filling out' physically. "That you did," he agreed, watching her curiously. It brought to question his own life, whether he ever intended on doing that sort of thing. 'That sort of thing' being starting a family, and the like. He'd never imagined himself in the position, and still couldn't. He didn't know how to care for a woman properly, let alone a child. If it ever did happen he might imagine some woman he'd slept with once unexpectedly coming back and simply telling him he was a father. Any explanation other than this just didn't seem like it could ever happen. "I'd love to meet her.." He examined the photograph, taking the young girl's appearance to memory. "She's quite adorable." And another thing - who was the father? Just out of curiosity. He handed back the picture. "How old is she, if I can ask?" Nathaniel asked, taking a bite out of his croissant. He cringed at the taste - it was like sandpaper in his mouth, though in his hunger he would have to settle. It was too late to go back and get something now, anyway. |

The surprise on Nate’s face when Emi mentioned that she had a daughter was almost priceless. Perhaps it was just Emi, but she didn’t expect that he’d ever been someone who was surprised very often and it amused her a little that she’d managed to. “It was... unexpected.” She shrugged lightly, “But I have managed well enough and it gave me the extra motivation to get to where I am now.” The blonde wasn’t sure she wanted to consider where she might be now if not for her daughter. A few good people had lost their lives over it; all she could do now is make sure Nina grew up healthy. “You may meet her eventually anyway; she occasionally comes to visit here.” The cougar smiled and took the photo back once Nate had studied it for a few moments, “Of course she is adorable; she takes after her maman.” Emi took a sip of her coffee before answering the question of Nina’s age, “She will be five on Christmas Day...” She left it at that, not wanting to focus on remembering the circumstances behind the way she was born. Most people usually made comments about having such a wonderful Christmas present, and Emilia had to agree – the best present was the fact that Nina had survived. Unfortunately there was another side that made the holiday bittersweet in the family that had died. “So let us start this tour, hmm?” Emi smiled easily and finished eating her sandwich as she took Nate around the first floor to begin with. After then, she managed to take him through the others, showing him the important places he would need to know in future before her beeper went off on her hip. “Ahh, it is time to finish my rounds, I am afraid.” She checked the small device before glancing at Nate once again, “But we should catch up properly some time. Occasionally I manage to find some time here and there. I am sure we will be seeing a whole lot of each other around.” |

He'd meet the girl the next time she was at the hospital, Nathaniel decided. Any child of Goldilocks' had to be worth his time. And besides - he was curious about her. What was she like? Anything like her mother? It was doubtful given her very young age, but with time who knew... The tour lasted for quite the while, and by the time it was over Nathaniel was alread0y falling behind on some paperwork needing his attention. Although he'd only started his job at this hospital just under two weeks ago, he was already knee deep in work. "Well, I can say that it's been interesting, Emi. Thank you for the tour." He turned to head back in the direction of the elevators. "I'll see you around." (ooc: megah short post, sorreh >> but at least the thread's done.) |
